Chapter 3

Author: Wooden Deck
Victoria clung to Tristan's arm affectionately. The sight of them together turned my stomach.

Tristan asked Victoria in a voice full of disdain, "Is this the loser you were talking about?"

Victoria put on a wounded expression. "Yeah. He's such a nuisance. I've already told him that nothing will ever happen between us, but he just keeps pursuing me."

Tristan turned to me. "I'm warning you. Stay away from Vicky from now on. Otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless. Could a loser like you even afford a place here?"

As soon as Tristan finished speaking, a sales representative quickly stepped forward. "Mr. Cole, please follow me to see the unit you wanted."

Tristan instructed the representative, "Don't let people like him in here anymore. It'll ruin the reputation of this place."

I ignored him and walked over to the front desk to ask about the prices. The staff member told me the best unit cost over eight million dollars, and with the current low interest rates, the monthly mortgage would only be around one hundred thousand dollars.

I told her that there was no need for a mortgage and that I would be back in 15 minutes to pay in full with my bank card.

After that, I walked over to Victoria. I told her the most expensive unit here was only around eight million dollars, and that I planned to buy her one outright. But first, I wanted to get her a car, and we'd come back for the apartment later.

The moment I finished speaking, both Tristan and Victoria burst out laughing, saying I was talking nonsense.

I told them I was serious and that, if they didn't believe me, they were welcome to come along and see for themselves.

There was a car dealership right across the street. Hoping to watch me embarrass myself, they followed me there.

I found a sales associate and asked what their most expensive car was. She asked about my requirements, and I told her I had none, only that it should be around one million dollars.

Upon hearing this, she realized that I was a major client and immediately walked me through the options that fit my budget.

I glanced over at Victoria. "Vicky, do you like this one?"

Vicky shot back, "You really don't know when to stop, do you? If you actually have the money, then buy it. I'll take it if you do."

I pulled out my bank card and handed it to the associate, telling her that I'd take the car and pay in full. From walking in to placing the order, it took less than three minutes. Everyone stood there in shock.

At that moment, I noticed the number above Vivian's head starting to flicker, climbing to 50%.

Right after the payment went through, ten million dollars arrived in my account.

"Let's go, Vicky. Time to get that apartment," I said.

Seeing how easily I had paid, Victoria immediately let go of Tristan's arm and moved to my side.

After returning to the sales office, I paid in full for the best unit within minutes and had it put under Victoria's name. By the time everything was done, the number above her head reached 90%.

Why was it still a little short? She really was greedy.

Once all the paperwork was completed, I glanced at Tristan and said loudly to the staff, "Next time, don't let people in who spend hours browsing but never actually buy—it's honestly embarrassing."

After hearing that, Tristan's face turned pale with anger, and he stormed off.

I checked the number above Victoria's head again. That wouldn't do—it was still too low.

I took Victoria to the villa sales center. I told her the eight-million-dollar apartment wasn't good enough for someone of her status, so I planned to buy her a villa. At some point, she had wrapped her arm tightly around mine.

I finally completed the task after buying the villa.

A notification from the system sounded. "Congratulations on completing the task. You have been awarded a Level 1 energy shield, which is capable of repelling zombies within a 16-foot radius. Your second task is to rescue 20 people during the apocalypse."

Damn. It was only a 16-foot energy shield.

I didn't have time to complain. The most urgent thing right now was setting up a safe house.

After everything I had done that day, my bank account balance grew to eight hundred million dollars. That should be more than enough.

The next day, I found a warehouse and bought it outright. After that, I hired a contractor to reinforce the entire structure.

I had a Grade-A blast-proof door custom-made that could only be opened using my facial recognition. All the windows were made of bulletproof glass, and soundproof and thermal insulation panels were installed on all four walls and the roof of the building.

The supplies in my room would only last me a few days, but that was fine with me. I decided to let them enjoy themselves for a while. After all, once my supplies ran out, they would no longer have any chance.I watched them through the monitors for three days. They had turned the once-tidy first floor into a complete mess. When they were hungry, they ate. When they were tired, they went back to their rooms to rest. The rest of the time, all they did was play poker. At the rate they were burning through everything, the safe house would turn into a dump within two months, and the food would be gone.So I decided to stop playing games with them. I wasn't about to let these parasites waste my supplies.Using the control panel in my room, I opened every door in the building except mine. From the very start, when I built this place, I had designed my room as the nerve center. I could control everything in the safe house from there. Before opening the doors, I turned on all the exterio

The zombie virus outbreak had been going on for a week. On the afternoon of the seventh day, the city's internet went down. I couldn't bring myself to imagine what the outside world had become.A large number of infected individuals had already gathered near the safe house.Every now and then, I saw people trying to drive out of the city, but they never got far before abandoned cars and dead bodies blocked their way. The moment they stopped, zombies swarmed them.It seemed like it was time to move on to the main mission and start saving the city. I decided to get a good night's sleep and begin my task when I woke up the next day.…When I woke up the next morning, I checked the surveillance feeds as usual. To my surprise, the room where Victoria and the others were being held was completely dark. I grabbed the walkie-talkie and tried to reach the bodyguards, but no one responded.Fortunately, all the footage had been recorded. I quickly pulled up the recordings to figure out what

I watched everything from my room. Plenty of zombies wandered outside. At night, they slowed down considerably. The moment the door opened, several zombies on the road sprinted toward the light. When Dominic saw them charging at him, he scrambled to his feet and ran. Soon, he vanished from the surveillance feed.Damn. I should have broken his legs before throwing him out. I was too soft.…After 24 hours, the remaining people grew weak from hunger.I announced, "The second round begins. You're all hungry, right? There are only three cans of food here. Whoever snatches them gets to keep them."The game will end in ten minutes. Whoever ends up holding all three cans wins and gets a luxury private room."After I finished speaking, I had someone toss three cans and an iron rod into the room, then had the door locked tightly from the outside.Tristan had apparently reached his limit. He was the first one to stand up and lunge for the cans. One of his men, who was slightly sturdier t

"Alright. Let's get started," I said.Everyone looked tense in the first game. Not a single person said a word for a long time. They seemed to be starving, so I had a few cans of food and some water brought in.At first, everyone kept glancing at Tristan and Victoria before doing anything. Eventually, they were so famished that they all began grabbing the cans and devouring them."Are you full now? Remember this feeling. Only the winner gets to eat their fill and have a private room with everything they need," I said. After I finished speaking, I projected an image of a second-floor room onto the screen inside. It was one of the rooms I had prepared for the bodyguards, equipped with basic facilities."Go ahead," I said. One of Tristan's men stood. "I once robbed an old woman who collected scraps."Another man jumped to his feet the moment he heard that. "That's nothing. I slept with a student before!"One by one, they began to reveal their wrongdoings. One of Victoria's frien

I clapped my hands, and the lights came on instantly. I stood on the second floor and called out, "Let the game begin."The bodyguards who had been hiding in the building for days lined up behind me all at once. There weren't many, just ten of them.I looked down at Victoria and the others from the second floor. After counting and confirming everyone was there, I began laying out the rules of the game."The apocalypse survival game begins now. From this point on, I'll be watching your every move. Everything you do will be visible to me. Everyone must follow the rules of the safe house."The first rule is that everything in this safe house will be distributed on a set schedule in fixed amounts. No one is allowed to take anything on their own. Second, once the game starts, there's no stopping or backing out. Third—"Before I could finish speaking, a voice from below cut me off. "Screw you. Who do you think you are, giving us orders?"The speaker was one of Tristan's men.I nodded

That evening, I grabbed something simple to eat from the supplies in the safe house.I dug out a sleeping bag and a tent that I had set aside earlier and let Victoria sleep on the first floor. She wasn't happy about it at first, but she was in no position to resist anymore. Before she arrived, I instructed the bodyguards I had hired at high cost to stay hidden on the second floor. That night, I sat in my room on the second floor with my eyes fixed on the television as the evening news played.I vaguely remembered that this was the night the first report broke about someone suspected of having rabies randomly attacking pedestrians on the street. At the time, no one took it seriously. Everyone wrote it off as a minor incident. Nobody could have guessed that the entire city would turn into hell overnight.…The moment daylight broke the next morning, I told Victoria about the zombie virus outbreak. She was stunned at first, then became skeptical.I showed her the news from the nig
