"Was it found in her room?” Jay asked with an edge of sharpness to his voice.

“Yes, but it just so happens that the roommate was the thief this time,” the enforcer said.

A whispering wave spread through the room like wildfire.

“What? Did she get influenced by her roommate? "

“Maybe… maybe she was the one who framed her roommate in the first place.”

That last remark, coming from Olive, was exactly as I'd expected of her. Olive was my personal maid, second only to Mary. To be entirely honest with you, though, I never did consider Mary to be simply a maid.

Olive addressed the rising throng, her voice with an impassioned authority that simply added fuel to the fire.

‘Think about it,’ she said. ‘She’s the only person who had access to Miss Melody’s stuff at the same time that she had access to her roommate’s.’

Another voice called out from the crowd. “Lydia has been here more than a year, and nothing has ever gone missing. Then the day after this new girl shows up, stuff begins to vanish.

"That stupid woman!" Lydia spat, then immediately lowered her head, her voice softening with guilt. "I'm sorry, Miss. I lost my temper. It's just…I'm so furious. I treated her well, and she still did something so despicable to me. And all within forty-eight hours!"I inclined my head and considered her shaking hands. "You want to pay her back?"The corners of her lips had cinched, the hesitation within her eyes a dancing flame. "Is there any proof for what she did? Except—" her voice trailed off, and then her eyes snapped to mine, shining as if she'd just spotted her savior. "You have an idea, don't you?"A slow, knowing smile curled my lips. "Yes, I can help you, but my help depends on one thing: your full cooperation.""Whatever you want me to do," she swore, her voice low but burning with determination. "I'll do anything.""Good." I reached beside me for the velvet box lying there and handed it to her. "Take this."Her fingers shook as she opened the box. When it opened, her breath

For the briefest of moments, I caught it, the fleeting trace of irritation crossing his eyes before he quickly concealed it behind the deceitful smile he had so carefully perfected just for me.“Melody,” he said, his voice soft, his eyes curving into the perfect crescent of love. “What are you doing here?”"I missed you," I said it with a playful, bold tone, the kind I'd always maintained. Before giving Harry a chance to withdraw, I stepped closer, wrapped my arms around his neck, and pulled him tightly in a hug. Then, acting as if I was taking a deep breath, inhaling the fragrance, which, before, I loved so much, I let out a sigh of relief.“You must have gotten busy and forgotten about me.”His chuckle hummed softly against my ear. "How could I?" he whispered. "From sunrise to sunset, you're the only one on my mind."Still holding on to me, I maneuvered myself forward, pushing my way through his place as he attempted to maneuver me away with subtle and imperceptible movements to ent

The next morning, I checked my messages for perhaps something—anything from Alpha Don. Since that call, it had been complete silence. No follow-up, no update. Just. nothing.Anxiety writhed in my chest, and I started to wonder if I'd made a mistake and chosen the wrong ally.I pulled out my phone and, on impulse, typed a quick message."Any news?"I barely had time to put the phone down when it started ringing again: an incoming video call.It was Don.I accepted the call without giving it much thought. As my very own reflection sprang to life on the screen, I groaned internally. I looked like I'd just rolled out of bed because I was still in my pajamas, and my hair was nothing but an untamed mess. The sight sent Don bursting into laughter. My face flushed with embarrassment, and I said defensively with my arms across my chest, “Don’t laugh at me.”He grinned. “Sorry, sorry. I wasn’t expecting such a. natural look to be greeting me.“Well, wasn’t expecting a video call! If I’d known,

“Mary, my engagement ring is missing.”Mary, who had been arranging my clothes in the closet with such efficiency, was caught mid-action. She turned around with her mouth open."Miss, this is serious! Why are you so calm?"This was also justified on her part. Any other person would be in a state of panic at that point. But I wasn’t. What I experienced was actually an element of detachment and curiosity on my part as well. This was the second time I had been reminded of my past life.Back in the day, I had been so angry at Jay for embarrassing me in the engagement ceremony that I decided to take the ring that he had given me and toss it into the cliff. I even lied that the ring was stolen by Samantha.Yet, this time felt different.I had kept the ring safely among the jewelry, and I had seen it a few hours ago when I started getting ready to go out. But now the ring is missing. The only person that has been in my room since then is Samantha.I almost laughed at the humor in that, but t

  • Reborn of the Betrayed Luna   Chapter 19: Don's POV

Don’s POVMelody Madison.“Either she is stupid or brilliant,” my wolf, Sid, grumbled inside my brain. ‘I find myself looking forward to discovering the answer.’”She was the most beautiful woman that I had yet encountered.‘Don’t get any funny ideas about another man’s fiancée,’ Sid warned, his voice now with a sharper edge. Melody Madison was a familiar name, though nobody knew what she looked like. Her father had raised her in secret, like something precious to him that was too dangerous to show the world. But she was not something to be ignored. His father was, of course, the Zeta Wolf, a war hero whose military prowess brought victory to their kingdoms during the rogue wars. "A cold-blooded killer," they said of him. Carved down whatever dared get in their way of victory. After that battle, when his partner died, he just seemed to disappear from public view, completely cutting himself out. However, he surfaced again, taking a new partner, until finally, rumors began to circulate.
