Chapter 3

Author: Unstoppable Rain
A very faint electric crackle sounded, and just as the bus had driven deep into the tunnel, the cabin lights suddenly went out without any warning.

Immediately afterward, the bright lights along the ceiling of the tunnel began to go dark, one after another. Starting from behind us, row after row of lights rapidly went out.

Endless darkness surged forward at a terrifying speed, swallowing everything behind us and instantly engulfing the entire bus.

"Why did the power go out?"

"It's dark outside too!"

The lively cheers inside the bus instantly turned into a chaotic clamor of shock and confusion.

Just then, several muffled mechanical clicks rang out in quick succession. The pneumatic doors of the bus were automatically locked, and every window lock was forcibly cut off and jammed tight.

We were completely sealed inside a speeding iron coffin.

Mr. Turner pounded frantically on the seat in front of him. "Mr. Porter! Turn on the lights! And why are the doors locked?"

From the driver's seat came Mr. Porter's voice, thick with terror and on the verge of tears. "It's not me! The bus is out of control! All the dashboard displays have gone black, the accelerator is stuck all the way down, and the steering wheel is locked! Help!"

At that moment, the engine let out a roar, and the bus began accelerating wildly through the pitch-black tunnel. The wind howled outside the windows, and the entire vehicle shook violently.

The people who had been mocking me just now completely broke down.

"Help! Save us!"

"Open the door! Smash the windows, quick!"

Hugo had lost all his earlier composure too. He crawled desperately toward the window, grabbed the emergency hammer, and smashed it against the glass like a madman.

Clangs rang out, and sparks flew everywhere, yet the glass remained completely intact.

"It's bulletproof glass! It won't break!" Hugo shouted in despair.

Mr. Turner pulled out his phone. The screen's light illuminated his pale face. "There's no signal! Not even one bar! We're completely cut off!"

Just as everyone on the bus descended into absolute panic, a sharp burst of radio static came from the bus' onboard speakers, and the previously black displays faintly lit up again.

Then, a monotonous voice delivered a news broadcast through the speakers.

"Breaking news—at 3:00 pm today, a horrific and major traffic accident occurred inside the abandoned air-raid shelter tunnel on the outskirts of the city.

"A bus carrying 35 freshmen of Newhaven University mistakenly entered this abandoned tunnel after losing its way. The vehicle crashed into the concrete wall at the end of the tunnel at high speed, causing a violent explosion.

"According to search and rescue personnel, all 37 people inside the vehicle perished on the spot."

The announcer's voice echoed through the dead-silent bus, sending chills down everyone's spine.

My watch displayed the current time as 2:50 pm, while the time of the accident predicted by the broadcast was 3:00 pm.

"Impossible… This is impossible…" Hugo collapsed in the aisle, gripping the emergency hammer tightly in his hand as he trembled uncontrollably. "Wasn't this tunnel supposed to go to the campus? How could it be an abandoned air-raid shelter?"

Mr. Turner desperately pulled at his hair as tears streamed down his face. "We're doomed… In ten minutes, we're all going to crash and die right here!"

The entire bus devolved into a living hell, echoing with cries, prayers, and grief-stricken yells.

Everyone pounded against the doors like lunatics, while at the front, Mr. Porter repeatedly slammed his foot against the unresponsive brake pedal, cursing helplessly.

On the other hand, I was the only one who pinned myself to my seat, my hands gripping the armrests so hard that my knuckles were white.

Bulletproof glass, a tampered GPS, automatically locked doors, a pre-recorded "broadcast of our deaths", as well as the abandoned tunnel disguised as a dedicated campus route… Every single thing was…

In my previous life, we had plunged off a cliff in the fog. In this life, we were going to crash into a wall in the tunnel.

No matter how the process changed, the ending was still the same—everyone on this bus had to die today.

However, who was behind this?

Mr. Porter was wailing for help, Mr. Turner was having a breakdown, and Hugo was smashing the windows.

They all looked like innocent victims, filled with fear of their impending deaths.

If none of them were the killer, then who exactly had set up this deadly trap, one that had even calculated my rebirth into the plan?

Time ticked away second by second until it was 2:58 pm. There were only two minutes left until we slammed into the concrete wall at high speed as foretold before.

I turned to look at Mr. Turner bashing his head against the door like a madman, then at Hugo, who was huddled on the floor and muttering to himself.

Finally, my gaze fell on the dead surveillance camera above the driver's seat.

Deep in my mind, a detail I'd completely overlooked in both my lives suddenly clicked, cutting through my confusion like a lightning bolt.

"I finally understand what's going on!" I exclaimed.

Everyone instantly fell silent and turned their gazes toward me in unison.

  • Reborn on the Freshman Bus to Nowhere   Chapter 8

The next morning, the real Newhaven University orientation bus safely brought us—the group of freshmen who had experienced a life-and-death ordeal—to the new campus.Right as I got off the bus and was about to head into the campus for freshman registration, I spotted Hugo at the main plaza by the school gate.I was surprised he had actually been released. Except right now, Hugo looked rather miserable. He was standing among a group of upperclassmen and freshmen, delivering a passionate speech."You guys have no idea! Our bus had the absolute worst luck yesterday. As if running into a group of kidnappers wasn't bad enough, we had to deal with this psychotic girl on board!"Hugo's spit went everywhere as he played up his sob story, fervently saying, "That girl's name is Evelyn Randall. She has a severe delusional disorder."The kidnappers only wanted money, but she was dead set on trying to get us all killed with them!"The crowd was stunned as they listened, and they all stared

The SWAT captain of the team walked straight up to me. As he glanced at the black remote control in my hand, a hint of approval flashed in his eyes."Hand it to me. You're safe now," he said kindly.I let out a relieved sigh and handed the remote to the captain. As he watched this, Hugo grew frantic. "I'm the hero who kept things under control!"The captain whipped around and cut off Hugo's endless blathering with a fierce bellow. "Shut up!"The boys who had taken the lead in smashing the windows walked over. Their eyes were bloodshot. One of the more hot-tempered boys kicked Hugo straight in the stomach.Hugo was sent falling to the ground, clutching his stomach. My other classmates surrounded Hugo as well, overwhelming him with their furious tirades. Even the usually quiet and meek girls couldn't resist stepping forward to land a few kicks on him.Hugo could only clutch his head as he thrashed around on the ground.I merely stood to the side and watched everything coldly.J

In that moment, the instinct to survive overcame fear. The two boys in the very front row were the first to react. With bloodshot eyes, they grabbed the fire extinguishers from under the seats and swung them madly against the windows on the other side. The sound of glass shattering echoed continuously throughout the bus. While the boys were frantically destroying the glass, the girls were helping each other as they prepared to leap out through the broken windows. When Jude saw this, he knew the situation had evolved beyond his control. They'd never be able to capture all 30-plus of us if we scattered and fled into the complicated tunnel systems of the air-raid shelter. They would fail to fulfill the buyer's order, and the boss would tear him apart."Damn it! You filthy bitch, you dare trick me?" Jude roared hysterically. "Get them! Take her out!"More than a dozen burly men swarmed the bus while swinging steel pipes, looking like a pack of wolves. The scene instantly spiraled o

As he held the girl hostage, Mr. Turner glared at me wickedly and said, "You really are quite clever."At this point, my classmates had a total meltdown. They had originally thought this was nothing more than an unfortunate traffic incident. Who could have guessed that this trip—supposedly a joyful journey heading to freshmen orientation—was actually a kidnapping that had been planned long ago?"Mr. Turner… why are you doing this?" shouted a boy, his voice breaking.Mr. Turner burst out laughing, the sound echoing through the bus."The most valuable thing you have isn't the money in your bank accounts. You're a bunch of physically healthy university students who just turned 18…"The moment those words came out, a deathly silence fell over the bus. Seconds later, several girls even fainted from shock."Alright, William. Drop the act. Slow down and pull into the drop-off location," Mr. Turner shouted toward the driver's seat. The bus that had been speeding wildly immediately slo

Mr. Turner was stunned for a moment. Then, his face darkened with anger as he pointed at me and roared, "Evelyn, how much longer are you going to keep this up? Will you not be satisfied until you get everyone on this bus killed?"A few boys who were friendly with Mr. Turner immediately chimed in."Yeah, Evelyn! Shut up!""If you hadn't started shouting earlier, Mr. Porter wouldn't have panicked and gone down the wrong way!"Ignoring their accusations, I walked straight down the aisle toward the front of the bus.Hugo suddenly stretched out his arm and resolutely blocked my way. He asked, "Evelyn, what exactly are you trying to do?"I stopped and looked at Hugo coldly. "Aren't you the one who cares most about logic and science? Then, use that brain of yours and think carefully—where did that broadcast just now come from?"At those words, Hugo froze, his brows knitting tightly together.I pointed at the illuminated display above the driver's seat and said, "How was the radio able
