It's been three days since Nora's arrival and I had seen her a total of four times. Not that I was keeping count. By the third visit, something akin to irritation flared under my skin. She tagged along with Sebastian but ended up sitting next to me and starting random conversations.

Arlo got unsettled for the first few minutes whenever she came. Then, when he saw Sebastian, he was back to his bubbly self and completely ignored her. I noticed his behaviour hurt her, and Nora didn't let it show o

Carter stood just inside the entryway. The beta wore his usual windbreaker, holding a bag in his left hand, looking unsure whether he’d made the right call in showing up. It was apparent by the way his shoulders hunched and his gaze nervously swept over the room, landing on Sebastian. Wyatt, oblivious to the tension in the room, took a step in, nudging the Alpha as a greeting. Arlo spotted him instantly, crossed the room, and shouted to the beta enthusiastically, which made his posture ease. “Carter!” “Hey, bud. Look what I got you.” He handed him one of the boxes from the bag. “Hey.” The beta waved to the room. My face was burning. I could feel it intensify as Sebastian’s eyes bit into my side. There’s heat crawling up my neck, heart thumping rapidly in my chest. What was the Alpha thinking? His words, sharp and grating about Carter and I flashed through my head again. An unfamiliar rage sat low in my stomach, and it felt almost like dread. Will he do it again i

“Hey?” Oliver’s voice rang out, his brow raised as I closed the distance from the edge of the door to his desk. The Pack Alpha had been in his usual spot, buried under heaps of documents on his table. “Are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost or something.” Had I seen a ghost? I wondered. I certainly felt like one, my presence physically out here in the room but mentally still trapped under the Alpha's heavy stare, my ears still ringing with his accusatory words. I blinked, forcibly dragging back into my body, into the present moment, into the office. I needed to act normal, say something normal, something that made sense. “I’m fine,” I settled on, and it came out surprisingly steady, given the shakiness of my heart beating in my chest. “You worry too much.” He tilted his head slightly, studying with more focus than before. “Are you sure?” He questioned, gesturing vaguely at my face. “You look kinda—” “Fine,” I made a sound at the back of my throat, plopping into

Arlo had a light to his steps, enthusiastically swinging our folded hands as we made our way towards home. Watching him automatically made my lips twitch, easing the tension from my conversation with Carter. I locked that in the back of my head somewhere. “Did you have fun at the training, baby?”“Hannys dad joined. He’s so fun! I like him!”Once inside the comfort of our home, I held back his hand, the pup turning to look at me with a confused pout.“Can I talk to you about something important?”“My snacks?”I laughed, “No! Not exactly.”As the furrow between his brows grew, I could feel my heart thudding. I walked him towards the couch before sitting on my knees in front of him. Taking his hand, I met his eyes. “You talked about Hanny’s dad just now…”He hummed. I took a deep breath. “Like Hanny has a dad, you also have a dad.”“I do?”“Sebastian is your dad.” Arlo went still. The pup twisted his lips as if he was mentally jotting down something. A minute later, he blinked. “Is

Then, when he saw Sebastian, he was back to his bubbly self and completely ignored her. I noticed his behaviour hurt her, and Nora didn't let it show on her face.At first, I thought it was his reluctance toward strangers, but when the pattern kept repeating, it confused me. The pup didn’t answer when I asked why he acted that way toward Nora; he indulged in his puzzles. My thoughts were interrupted by the heavy, fast footsteps on the porch, followed by two sharp raps. I knew the person standing behind before I opened the door. “We need to talk,” Sebastian huffed. No greeting. No pleasantries. Typical. I watched as the Alpha looked around th

/Sebastian’s POV/“Nora’s here.” At my beta’s voice, I looked up, blinking, trying to process those words. He stood in the corridor of my room, hands crossed against his chest, displaying a grim look. “What do you mean Nora’s here?”“I mean here in the town. I saw her driver at the diner.”I immediately stood up, abandoning the laptop, running a hand through my curls and tugging on them. Nora sounded calm, almost too calm, the last time we spoke on the phone.“Shit! How did she—Why did she not tell me? This is insane!”Wyatt pressed his lips into a thin line. “When was the last time you spoke to her?”“Two days ago?”“So before your dinner with Lily?”“Yes!” I huffed. She had asked me to call her after dinner, or at least text, but it slipped my mind. A plethora of things occupied my mind lately, especially that dinner night. My Alpha was satiated, a feeling I hadn’t experienced in a long time. “Maybe that’s why she’s here. You should go find her before she gets to Lily.”“Moons!” I

Nora was staring. I could feel her intense gaze boring into the back of my skull as I unlocked my main door. A part of me, the one that immediately thought of her as a stranger, wanted to do nothing but walk away. Then again, we are sisters even if I don’t remember. Arlo was holding onto my hand like it was his lifeline, emitting pitiful groans when he saw Nora walk too close. If she had noticed his erratic behaviour, Nora didn’t comment. “Please sit. I’ll get you something to drink.” I pointed at the couch, throwing the keys into the holder as soon as the door shut behind us.“Thank you…” Nora hummed; the uneasiness from her shoulders dissipated, a smile creeping at the corners of her lips. She stared at Arlo, who was clinging to my right leg. “Is this Arlo?”Her voice went hoarse, eyes shifting between the two of us. I nodded. Her eyes grew, and she excitedly waved at him, “Hi, Arlo! I am your aunt…you can call me Aunt Nora…” The pup grew distressed, simply making a sound at th
