Aurora’s POV

The distant murmurs and chattering have woken up my sleeping soul. The scent of medicine went into my nostrils and I knew just exactly… where I was laying.

My eyes fluttered open and landed on the ceiling above me. The bright light, the white paint, the ambiance… I was brought into the hospital.

“Aurora!” Mom rushed towards me without any hesitation. She helped me sit straight and the worry in her face was visibly written.

“Are you alright now?” Her hands smoothed down from my shoulders to my hands as she looked at me with so much concern. “You have no idea how worried I was!”

My eyes roamed around the room. “Where is Alexander?” I whispered.

Even my wolf could not smell him from here. There was a slight hope in my chest that maybe… he was just somewhere or just left to get some air.

That is all I could cling to… that uncertainty.

“He… isn’t here.” She responded fast enough and offered me a warm smile.

“But hey! Your father and I are here for you and Alexander’s family is going to pay you a visit today as well. I am sure, your husband is just busy with his duties and is making up for all the workload you missed.” She said, trying to woe me but it wasn’t working.

I was hoping I could get some rest again when all of a sudden, my physician went inside my room. She was holding some paper and heaven knows what it contain.

“It was nice to hear that you finally regained consciousness.” She spoke. I could feel the gloomy atmosphere from her eyes and her mouth was shaking uncontrollably.

“What… why are you saying that in a sad tone? What are your findings?” I laughed wryly, trying to remain composed.

“Your child… the heir of the family… I am sorry to say this but he is gone.” She said with a hitching breath and her eyes darted to the floor, avoiding my gaze.

“What?”

“You lost your baby and we weren’t able to save him. You were brought here already too late and the poison in the drink you have ingested has eaten up your system. We are so sorry…” She apologized, her voice cracking.

“This is impossible… and unacceptable.” I smiled as I fixed myself.

“I… I was told I was carrying the most healthy baby the pack would ever have… and the prophecy–they told me that I would be conceiving a child who would be the strongest of them all. So why? Why are you lying to me?”

“Enough, Aurora…” My mother’s hands were tightening over my shoulders while she tried to calm me down.

I felt like I was getting suffocated.  Like something was purging the nerves in my body and my blood was stuck on each end.

“You should go now.” Mom ordered her to go so I would not be enraged further.

“No, you stay here!” My voice raised. “You stay here as you explained why I lost my child and why am I sitting in this stupid bed, getting news about this miscarriage–do not leave me without giving me any explanation!”

The room went silent and that gave me just the right amount of time to feel everything right on my shoulders. The burden… the fact that I had lost my baby and the one that is keeping me close to my husband.

What would happen to me now? No… I shall not care about my relationship for I had just lost my baby…

“Is there any competent physician that could have saved my child?” Tears started falling down my cheeks as everyone’s mouth was stitched into the tightest knot. “Couldn’t anyone tell me what exactly could have been the reason why I am in this state now?”

My hands could only tighten their grip over my blanket as no one dared to answer me. Looking around the room and feeling this emptiness in my stomach… who could I run to?

The door opened swiftly right in front of me and my eye caught sight of my husband’s parents. They all had the same exact look my parents had–pity.

“I am sorry for your loss…” Ruppert hugged me tightly as Alexander’s mother wiped her tears and hid her face by talking to my mother.

I looked behind them and there he was, Alexander, just standing and watching me cry without any sense of emotion in his face.

As if he had already known this would have happened…

Couldn’t he have shown me an ounce of empathy? For a woman, he grew up with and fated to be… why can’t he show me a little mercy?

I watched as he walked inside the room, holding an envelope. The sharp looks and his stance… “Enough with the cries, Aurora.”

“What?” My voice broke as his words sunk deeper down my heart.

“You had just lost my heir and therefore, I have no other business that has anything to do with you.” It was the sharpest… and excruciating painful words I could ever hear.

“Alexander!” Ruppert's voice’ raised as he looked at his son. His fist landed on his collar as he attempted to punch my husband.

“What? Stop acting like you would want me to still be married to a Luna who can’t even give the alpha a son. She had just lost her value and everyone sees her as a careless woman who would drink a poisoned cup from a ceremony where assassinations are likely to happen!” It seemed as though he was blaming me for everything that had happened.

“Enough.” I clutched the sheets in my hands as I tried to rub off all the awful things he had been saying.

I could not listen to him any longer. It is already enough that he had been tormenting me for the past years of my life and I could not have him hurting me even for this day.

I was in so much pain… so much that I could not look into his eyes as I slowly accepted the fact that I would be removed from the only role I had ever known since I was a child.

But it is not the title that my wolf is crying about–no. It is the very fact that my husband is dying to take his surname from me and for our marriage to end.

It is the fact that he had failed to see through my emotions, of how devastating it is to lose our son… of how painful it is to realize that all these years, he had never even felt a single ounce of love for me.

I forced myself to swallow my pride and offer them a smile despite nearly losing my mind. I had to lift my face so as not to let my tears fall on my chin as I whispered, “I would like to sign the paper.”

“Good.” There was no hesitations in Alexander’s voice and instead, he took the paper out of the envelope.

I watched as he threw them by my bed. As if there was no remaining respect in his body and all he ever wanted was to end it.

“Tomorrow morning, we are to announce this. Our separation will be made public and you shall be blamed for the death of the heir–” Alexander could no longer finish talking when his father punched him in the face.

“Ruppert!” His mother’s voice raised as she ran to her son. “Why did you punch your son?!”

Ruppert bowed his head as he apologized for what had happened. “I am deeply sorry for my son’s behavior. I promise that I will do every necessary measure to discipline him. I did not raise him to be like that…” His sharp stare was darted on his son.

My father stood up from being seated and finally decided to speak his mind after listening and swallowing everything Alexander was throwing at me.

“There is no need for you to discipline him in any way.” He said as he laid his hands on my shoulders, gently assuring me that everything would be fine.

“I fully support your son’s decision to break his marriage with my daughter. That way, our family would be free of the generational pact we made and there would be no reasons for us to stay civil.” He affirmed, clearly trying to break apart from the bond our family shared.

I knew Ruppert did not like my father’s tone of voice but he had no choice considering how his son was the first to provoke this situation.

“I would appreciate it if you and your family would leave us all alone for now. We will send this document back to your estate so please, step out.” Father looked at them with the kind of eyes that was ordering the highest ranking family of the pack… all for the sake of his daughter.

“Again, I am sorry.” Ruppert apologized for the second time as he looked at me and said, “I wish that you would recover as quickly as possible and for us to talk calmly.”

I just smiled faintly and nodded. I watched them all leave the room while I felt defeated and miserable.

I felt like I was robbed of my husband and my son… it was so pathetic that I wanted it all to just end.

What have I done to deserve these things? All my life, I have been good and I have never wronged anyone.

Why? Why am I discarded like I am worth nothing?

I was so preoccupied by what happened and how Alexander behaved.“We need to get ready quick. I don’t even want to go out…“Come on, let’s get you dried up.” Josie immediately helped me get up as the towel started going through every inch of my body, removing all the waters that have cling up to my skin.I still don’t want to stand beside the alpha. This ball… it felt like it was not meant to welcome Yoshua again… it was a provocative fight between the beta and the alpha, one long overdue. I know, he did not intend to befriend him at all, n

Even inside my office, with the hearth crackling loudly and the curtains drawn, I heard everything. My mother dabbed the corner of her eye with her handkerchief for the sixth—no, seventh—time since we left the pack’s border.“My stars…” she whispered, staring at me like I’d resurrected from the dead. “I cannot believe five years abroad turned you into—into this.”My father nodded, stroking his mustache with irritation and pride. “You were a skinny brat when we sent you to the States. Now look at you.” He narrowed his eyes. “Menacing. Why do you look menacing?”I smirked. “Better than looking like a brat, isn’t it?”“‘Better’ depends on who you ask,” my mother muttered. “Your shoulders are too broad. Your voice is too deep. Your face—too sharp.” She squinted. “Good moon, even your aura changed. What did they feed you over there? Testosterone soup?”I laughed. “Training. Discipline. Good mentors. And a climate that didn’t shelter me like a baby wolf.”My father huffed. “In th

Aurora’s POVCayden and I slipped through the front doors as quietly as we could manage. My boots were muddy from the trip, my cloak damp with the cold morning mist. We kept our heads lowered, trying to blend with the shadows lining the wide entrance hall.“Left,” I whispered.“Right,” Cayden whispered at the same time.We froze. Looked at each other. And sighed.“We’re lost, aren’t we?” he muttered.“No,” I said, confidence wavering. “We’re… taking the scenic route.”But the scenic route apparently led straight into the one place we desperately wanted to avoid. We turned a corner—And walked directly into the living room, where half the pack council was gathered… and in the center of the room, being welcomed with open arms, was him.Yoshua Mauve. He stood with the same infuriating posture I remembered—relaxed shoulders, confident stance, chin slightly raised as if the world was a puzzle only he had the brain and the patience to solve. Aurora’s POVCayden and I rode in silence for most of the trip, the pine-scented wind splintering against our cloaks as we descended the narrow path toward the worker district.I didn’t know what exactly I expected to find, but the creeping dread in my stomach told me I was already late. Mary had always been private, painfully proud, and slow to ask for help. If something had driven her to such desperation that she accepted reassignment to Nova of all people… then whatever was happening to her son must have been severe.“Are you certain the neighbors here know anything?” I asked as we approached the row of small, uneven houses. Smoke drifted lazily from the chimneys; children darted between doorways; boots thudded softly against packed dirt. The hour was early, but poverty never slept.Cayden glanced at me. “If the boy was taken recently, someone had to see something. These districts notice everything, Aurora. Even what they pretend not to.”I dismounted first, my boots sinking slight
