46-2: I am the monster

Augustin sighed briefly and slid onto his back. He found himself lying beside his daughter, staring at the wide ceiling beams.

Emmanuelle felt a wave of sadness crash over her. She had to run a hand over her heart to try and banish the pain, but it was useless. She forced herself to squeeze her eyelids as tightly as possible, hoping to make Harry's face appear in her mind again. But her eyes saw only blackness. So she stifled a sob, feeling the lump in her throat, as she didn't want to alarm Augustin any further.

At the same time, she was replaying past events over and over in her mind, regretting each and every one of her actions. However, of all the mistakes she had made, the most painful and heartbreaking remained in her mind: that of having waited to let herself be marked by Harry.
