[Primus]

Nobody stops me as I leap out the window, spiraling down from the tall tower until I find the window of the hallway leading to the Technician’s lab.

It is a clear day, the sky is blue, and the sea is the perfect shade of teal, the surface as glassy as a mirror and calm. As the wind picks up the edges of my wings, I see the sail of a tall ship as it heads down the wide, deep river. Perfect weather to get my family to safety.

Wow! Kora is more than a little bit insane. I wonder what Primus is going to think when he discovers who Ursa's mate is. Thank you for your patience as I write more chapters of this story. This series is my heart and my joy and I do my best to make each chapter exciting and meaningful for the storyline and the characters. I hope you can see all the love I've put into it. If you can, consider leaving a gem or two in appreciation! Thank you :)

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   095: True Purpose

[Primus] Sitting on a stool, in the center of the room, is a drake made of light, his edges glowing faintly, his head moving slowly from side to side, as if watching an audience. He is wearing a cloak of shadows, as dark as night, ancient runes sewn along the edges of his cloak. He is wearing dark gloves, dark boots, his whole body painted in shades of shadow. It reminds me of Carnelia’s father, the shadow walker. Until he takes off his gloves, revealing hands of a fair, creamy flesh tinged faintly with the palest green. His long curved nails are a darker green, almost black. And then the hood comes down to rest along his broad shoulders. His hair is a shocking shade of green, as bright as spring leaves, short on the sides, and longer as it cascades between his dark horns, the same almost blackish green as his talons. Above his eyes, the color of earth and sand and fallen leaves that glow with flecks of gold, are high, ridged brows, covered in iridescent scales that fade betwe

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   094: The Archon's Voice

[Primus] Sitting in a large, plush chair on the other side of the room is a drake of incredible age. He’s in his bipedal form, his iridescent tail wrapping around him to rest in his lap, his fan-like ears fallen into wrinkled lobes, his golden eyes still sharp despite the visible ache in his bones and joints. Unlike the Crystalborn from the meeting hall, in bipedal form the archon has a shock of white hair that falls to his shoulders in tight curls, looser than Carnelia’s tighter coils. Unless there is another dragon as old in this place, this could only be the Archon. And sitting next to him, with head bowed, is a very young drakaina, one forced into a human form, her head bald and tattooed like a human slave. If it weren’t for the telltale collar around her neck, and the surreal golden glow of her eyes, she could have passed as a small human. She looked no more than 6 or 7 human years old. Practically a hatchling. She’s probably closer to 20–still far from the age of maturity a

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   093: Betrayal and Atonement

[Primus]Everyone turns to glare at Atremi. “An air drake working for Segundus,” Ona spits as a collar is placed around her neck, smoldering her essence under the weight of humanity. “Segundus, Atremi? Please tell me it wasn’t you.” Atremi doesn’t say anything at first, but as the guards slip a cuff around each wrist and his form dims in color and shape, becoming smaller, the first touch of humility I’ve ever seen on him crosses his face. It’s ironic, considering how he belittled me, trapped and tortured my body, all for the sake of his grand plan. Didn’t he ever consider he might receive a touch of his own medicine? Unable to meet anyone’s gaze, he bows his head to look down at his feet.“I am not the thief,” he declares in a flat, even voice as he slowly raises his head to eye the Archon across the room. “Would a thief walk this treasure into this room willingly?” “Perhaps you expected forgiveness?” The liaison’s face twisted with disgust as she translated the Archon’s growl. “We

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   092: The Crystalborn

[Primus] Our party makes room as three technicians enter from a side chamber. Their robes are as gray as stone, from shoulder to foot, covering pale draconic flesh that shimmers with a similar hue to the Archon himself. His offspring? They have a similar, almost ancient, feel to their energy that resonates with the powers of earth, and something else…a spark of the cosmic that reminds me of my mate’s connection to the void. But then again, everything reminds me of my mate these days. Gods, how I miss her. Before taking their final steps, the trio turns towards the Archon, lifting their arms above their heads as they press their hands together in silent prayer, bowing before the ancient dragon until their spines are straight and parallel to the ground. As their sleeves fall back to their shoulders, the dim light of the cave-like parlor catches the surface of a thin ribbon of metal woven beneath their skin. The sight is startling, each strand of metal snaking along the backs of the

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   091: Meeting the Archon

If Liaison Everly was originally from Crystal River Pass, it would mean she was once the Technician stationed at Skyfall, my deceased brother’s realm. Is it possible that she once worked with Segundus, or did she simply observe and report, like most Technicians do? Tilting my head, I give Liaison Everly a long, even look. I think I’d remember a Technician that looked like her–She was far too unique to miss. Maybe she played some kind of lesser role within his manor and was not a member of his court. Maybe she had even been in disguise…pretending to be human, perhaps. With her features, it wouldn’t take much for her to manage a very realistic human disguise. “Primus,” Ona looks over her shoulder as she calls my name. “What’s wrong?” It’s only then that I realize I had been staring a bit too long at our guide. Frowning, I shake my head, trying to clear my thoughts. I already knew I had to be cautious when coming here, because the Technicians were untrustworthy. Not just because th

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   090: Ripples

[Primus] A strange artificial stone lines the tunnel, and I can’t help but stare as the platform descends. I am an earth dragon, and I’ve seen all types of stone, but this substance was outside my experience. It is a type of shaped stone, perfectly formed, its grooves determining not only the course of our platform, but the speed of its descent. The stone itself isn’t made of a single type, but of the fragments of several, pasted together with water and another substance not quite Terran, giving the grooves a faint blue sheen that flickered to life with the glow of the stone in Liaison Everly’s staff. Starfire crystal. The sand-sized pebbles are glued together with starfire crystal dust and sap. An earth dragon, with the help of a moon dragon, could possibly manage the crystal and together form a shape like this, even growing the two materials together. But there are very few earth dragons living, who have ever lived, who could have dared–myself and a drakaina on the other side of

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   061: Confinement

[Carnelia] What happened next was quick, efficient, and emotionless, so rapid and unexpected that I didn’t see it coming until it was already too late. It was my mistake, assuming that just because Nyxt, who looked and sounded so much like Primus, was being kind to me, meant that he would honor my

[Carnelia] It is impossible to know how long I’ve been waiting here, listening to the ramblings of this “Navigator,” standing on the precipice of a ruined city that she informs me isn’t just on the other side of our known universe, but in a dimension completely different from the one I was born in.

[Primus] They say those who know us the best can cut us the deepest. Once, Atremi Glaveheart was one of my only friends in the palace. My mother was distant, running affairs in the Celestial Kingdom while my father spent her dowry and procured new mistresses. I was close to my clutchmate, Ona, b

  • Redemption of The Dragon Prince   044: Blood and Empires

[Primus] As a grown drake nearing his first century of life, it is a rare occasion that I’ve felt true fear. In fact, I could count those moments on a single hand–watching my wife lay her first clutch, not knowing if she could survive; Seeing my mother die in an explosion of light; waking up under
