"I know who she is." Adrian’s voice was sharp on the other end of the line, making Vania straighten in her seat at the café.

"Are you serious?" Vania gripped her phone tighter. "Who is that woman?"

"I don’t want to talk over the phone. It’s too risky. Let’s meet at the usual place."

Vania understood immediately. "Alright, fifteen minutes."

Her steps were brisk as she entered a small coffee shop tucked into the corner of the city—a place she and Adrian often used for discreet meetings.

He was already there, sitting in the corner, wearing a black jacket and a baseball cap. His gaze was dark, as if weighing whether he should even tell her what he’d found.

"What did you find?" Vania asked without preamble, sliding into the seat across from him.

Adrian stared at her for a long moment, then pushed a brown envelope across the table. "Her name is Karen Astoria. Devandra’s ex-girlfriend—before he married you."

Vania froze. The words hit like a hammer. "Ex-girlfriend?"

"Yeah." Adrian leaned for

“Van, you need to listen to me carefully.” Devandra’s voice was low but firm, as if he were trying to hold back his emotions.Vania stopped in the driveway, car keys still in her hand. “What now, Dev?”“Arga isn’t who you think he is,” Devandra said, locking eyes with her. “He’s… a bad man who’s good at pretending to be nice.”Vania stared at him in disbelief. “A bad man? You’ve only met him once or twice.”“I’m not just making this up.” Devandra stepped closer, his tone sharper. “I have reasons. I’ve heard things—enough to make me certain he’s not a good person.”“Heard from who?” Vania asked, narrowing her eyes.Devandra hesitated. “My source is reliable. They said Arga was once involved in something shady. Fraud. Dirty money.”Vania shook her head slowly. “That’s just hearsay, Dev. I can’t accuse him of something like that without proof.”Devandra let out a frustrated sigh. “Van, I know you’re fragile right now. I know you need someone who makes you feel safe. But sometimes, the on

“Arga?” Devandra’s voice cut through the stillness of the late afternoon, sharp and commanding, outside the small café on the corner.Arga, just stepping out with a takeaway coffee in hand, turned. A faint smile touched his lips. “Yeah. And you must be Devandra.”Devandra closed the distance between them until barely a meter remained. “We need to talk. About Vania.”Arga straightened slightly, though his posture stayed relaxed. “Talk about what?”“I want to know your intentions.” Devandra’s tone was flat, but his eyes were razor-sharp. “Why did you suddenly show up in her life? And why is it that every time she needs help, you’re there?”Arga arched an eyebrow. “Is that wrong?”“It’s not about right or wrong,” Devandra shot back quickly. “I just don’t want her getting hurt again. She’s already been broken enough by people she thought she could trust.”Arga studied him in silence for a few seconds, then let out a slow breath. “You think I’m one of them?”“I think you’re… a little too c

“So, you’re Arga?” Devandra’s voice was flat, but his eyes were sharp as they fixed on the man sitting casually in the café chair.Arga turned slowly, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Yeah. And you… you’re Devandra, right? Vania’s friend?”Devandra didn’t sit. He stood beside the table, leaning forward slightly. “I want to know what your intentions are with Vania.”Arga raised an eyebrow, setting his coffee cup down deliberately, as if to show he felt no pressure at all. “My intentions? What kind of intentions do you think I should have?”“Don’t play games, Arga,” Devandra said, his voice low but laced with restrained anger. “She’s already dealing with enough problems. I’m not about to let some stranger walk in and make things more complicated.”Arga regarded him for a long moment, then smiled again—a smile that somehow only irritated Devandra further. “I don’t know what problems you’re talking about, but one thing’s clear… I just want her to be okay. If that counts as an ‘intentio

“Why does the walk home feel quieter than usual…” Vania muttered, quickening her pace. The streetlights were on, but the shadows of the trees made parts of the sidewalk look unnervingly dark. She had just left the city park, still replaying the laughter she’d shared with Arga that afternoon, when that strange sensation crept in—a feeling that someone was following her.Her footsteps echoed alone, but… no. There was another set of steps, half a beat behind hers.Vania glanced back sharply. The street looked empty, but in the distance, a tall figure in a dark jacket moved slowly, always keeping the same distance.Don’t panic, Van… she told herself. She dug into her bag for her phone. But before she could dial anyone’s number, the footsteps drew closer.Vania sped up, then broke into a half-run.“Vania!”The voice came from the side, from a narrow alleyway. The figure who stepped out made her freeze—Arga.“Come on, this way!” He extended his hand without further explanation. Reflexively,

“In the late afternoon like this, the city park feels like it has its own little world,” Arga said, slipping both hands into the pockets of his jacket.Vania glanced toward the thick trees surrounding the walking path. The golden rays of the setting sun streamed through gaps in the leaves, casting patterns of light across the ground. Small birds darted past now and then, and the afternoon air felt softer than usual.“It’s been a long time since I’ve been here,” Vania said quietly.“Maybe because you’ve been busy,” Arga replied, his eyes studying her face. “Or maybe… you forgot places like this existed.”Vania gave a faint smile. “Could be.”They walked side by side. Occasionally, the wind carried the sweet scent of flowers blooming in the park. Along the path, children ran laughing, while couples sat on benches sharing stories.Arga glanced at her. “You seem more relaxed today.”“Are you saying I’m usually tense?” Vania asked, suppressing a laugh.“Hmm… not tense exactly, but… like yo

The rain had just stopped, leaving the streets glistening and wet. Vania drove slowly, her mind still tangled in fragments of plans with Devandra—how to confront Mrs. Rika, the possibility of her father’s involvement, and the question of who she could actually trust. Then suddenly, the steering wheel began to shake strangely. A dull thud-thud-thud came from the left side of the car. She slowed down, pulled over to the side of the road, and stopped the engine. When she stepped out, the cold afternoon air greeted her. The front left tire was almost completely flat.“Perfect,” she muttered bitterly. “As if I don’t already have enough problems.”She opened the trunk to get the jack, but her hand froze when a man’s voice called softly, “Vania?”She turned sharply. From the opposite direction, a man was walking toward her—light blue shirt, black pants, slightly messy hair—and a face she knew all too well.“Arga?”He gave a faint smile. “Looks like I showed up at just the right time.”“I can
