The two guards stood stiff as boards, shooting nervous side-eye at each other.

They stared at the woman before them. Her black cloak billowed in the wind, and her presence was dominating.

“I want to meet the Luna,” Alexa said again, calm but demanding

Guard Thomas stepped forward, his grip firm on his weapon. “What’s your name and business? No one sees the Luna without,"

“Without what?” She cut him off, her lips curling into a cold smile “Permission from ordinary guards?”

Before Thomas could finish embarrassing himself, the heavy clomp of boots approached them.

Martins, the head guard, emerged from the shadows. His face was stern, and his eyes immediately locked onto Alexa with suspicion.

“What’s happening here?” Martins barked, his voice rolling out like thunder.

Thomas tried to regain his dignity. “Sir, this woman wants to see Luna. She’s not giving us any details.”

Martins gave Alexa a once-over. There was this thing about her. His wolf was against her

Deep in the woods, Daisy stalked through the tangled underbrush, the branch clinging to her like some cloak. The white wolf was chained up and looked really rough. The silver chains dug into his fur and flesh. “Time to tie up loose ends,” Daisy muttered, her claws flicking out. The little wolf looked up at her, with his blue eyes pleading for mercy but he didn't say anything. “You should’ve stayed in the shadows, kid,” Daisy said, circling him like a shark. “You should’ve kept pretending you were just a rogue. But, nooo, you had to go and remember you used to be someone, huh?” A little whimper from the wolf, but his eyes didn’t break from hers. Stubborn thing. “Don’t sweat it,” Daisy said, “I’ll make it quick. I can’t have you messing up my win when I’m this close.” She lifted her arm, her claws ready for the kill. Meanwhile, back in the palace, there was a sudden mood change. Cassie collapsed as the gut, wrenching, soul-level panic ripped through her. This was deepe

The door burst open. The guards were finally there. Too late. Daisy was already moving, claws ready, eyes wild, ready to destroy her last enemy. Suddenly, their attention drifted. Smoke, thick, choking and nasty hit Cassie’s nose all at once. Screamings broke out below. The sky was suddenly on fire, orange tongues clawing up from the courtyard. The guards didn't see anyone in the room. The screams alerted them. “Fire! The courtyard is burning!” The guards outside Cassie’s door freeze, jittery, their eyes darting between the hallway and her. “Go!” roared their captain. “Drop everything! Move!” Off they went, stomping down the hall, boots pounding like a drumline. Just like that, Cassie was left alone with Daisy. “Perfect timing,” Daisy said, stepping back, all cool and casual, as if chaos wasn’t shaking the whole place. Cassie’s brain was going nuts. “What’s going on?” she snapped “A little distraction,” said a new voice, familiar and cold as a grave. Cassie’s heart just…

The moon casted long shadows across Cassie's chamber as she sat by her window, staring into the darkness. Sleep had become a stranger to her since Jamie's confession. Every sound made her jump, every shadow seemed to hide a threat from her. A little tap on the glass shot her back into consciousness. She turned, barely breathing. And there, just outside her second-story window, was someone floating like some vengeful ghost Daisy. Her face was as pale as the moon, her eyes lit up with pure hate, practically pressed to the glass. “Hello, Cassie,” Daisy said. Her voice came through muffled, but Cassie heard it clear as day. “We need to talk.” Her hands started to shake. She backed up. “Get out! Guards!” Daisy actually laughed, the sound was so cold it could’ve frozen the air. “Scream all you want. By the time your guards show up, I’ll be gone,” “But hey, you’ll know the truth. Isn’t that what you wanted?” Every part of Cassie screamed to run, but no, She found herself dra

Cassie needed air, badly. The palace walls were closing in, after everything that was happening. She decided to take a stroll round the pack territory, hoping a little fresh air would smack some sense back into her. The market square was buzzing as usual, but then suddenly, something was off. An old woman sat under this torn, faded tent. The woman’s eyes, milky and blind, still gave Cassie the distinct feeling she was being watched. “My Luna,” the woman croaked, voice all papery and weird. “You want to find answers right?” Cassie froze. Cassie stopped, drawn by something she couldn't name. "I'm sorry?" “The ones that keep you up at night. The holes in your story.” The old lady grinned, her teeth missing. “I can give you the truth. But it’ll cost you.” Cassie’s skin crawled. “What kind of truth?” “About your child.” Her heart just, like, stopped. “What do you know about my child?” The woman patted a bowl next to her, all casual. “Drink this. See what you’re not supposed

Cassie's Pov I was wide awake, the word “sister” just kept rattling around my head like a bad pop song on repeat. So, I started to do laps around the palace, hoping at least my legs would get tired if my brain wouldn’t shut up. That’s when I heard voices drifting out from the library. “Now, Lucas,” said Mrs. Henderson, all gentle-patience. Lark had hired her to whip Lucas into academic shape, but honestly, she reminded me more of a grandma than a tutor. “Let’s try some basic pack traditions. Can you recite the Evening Song we learned last week?” I hovered by the door. I didn't want to barge in, but I was dying to know if Lucas was actually learning anything. “The Evening Song?” Lucas sounded like someone who’d just been called on in math and realized he’d been doodling instead. “Yes, dear. The one every Vale pack child knows. ‘When moonlight falls on sacred ground…’” I leaned in closer. Lucas had to know this one. Every kid in our pack could recite it backward before they
