Cassie Jones’s POV

6:50PM, Friday evening.

I walked into my room happily staring at the ballroom gown in front of my dressing table, admiring it.

Tomorrow, my boyfriend or maybe it is just my own thought will be crowned the alpha after a lot of challenges. Of course, I'm expecting him to propose to me, or I'll end up proposing to him myself.

Even though I'm scared of getting rejected as he's yet to meet his fated mate and I'm yet to meet mine, I pray every time to the moon goddesses to make us mates.

I’m Cassie Jones. An orphan that seeks refuge here at my childhood friend, Jamie after an unexpected war destroyed my pack.

In the Vale pack, I am known for always being around Jamie , and everyone knows I have a crush on him, but he does not seem to notice.

He was my childhood best friend, and when I was ten, he protected me from being bullied because I was always shy and afraid of being around people . I have had a soft spot for him ever since.

Without a doubt, I love him and am willing to go to any length for him. He is the current Alpha's son, but he is stepping down and will be announced as the new alpha.

Even though his father was sad about his stepbrother, Kingsley, who had been kicked out of the pack a few weeks ago.

I arrived back here a few months ago after a war broke out in our pack leaving me homeless and an orphan.

As I stared, I heard my name from behind; it was Daisy , my female friend, coming into my room.

"Are you that excited about Jamie becoming the alpha?" She asked as soon as she came inside which made me frown.

"He deserves to be the alpha. Everyone knows that he has the aura of an alpha and has proven himself sufficiently.” I snapped back at her.

She rolled her eyes as she sat on my bed, "I wish he could look at you like you looked at him." I frowned angrily and chased her out the moment she said that.

I do not want anyone to ruin my mood until tomorrow because I was hoping to be in the best mood when I proposed to him.

I sighed as I sat on my bed. "Moon goddess." Before dozing off.

NEXT MORNING

As I stood up, I let out a yawn and stretched my arms into the air. It was still early in the morning because I just wanted to go as early as I could so I could see Jamie before he'll be called on stage.

I dressed up and looked at myself in the mirror adjusting my makeover before standing up to leave outside.

I spotted the car outside waiting for me which made me smile, he got me the ride to get to the main hall.

I got in and we started the ride. Getting there, he parked and came out to open the door for me, “Thanks.” I muttered before stepping out going into the hall.

Immediately I entered, I saw Daisy beside Jamie talking to him, making me frown. Just yesterday, she was talking about him like he was the biggest jerk of all time and now she’s acting all flirty around him.

I walked closer to them, seeing me, she frowned and quickly covered it up with a smile before coming to me, “Guess what Jamie just told me?” She asked, linking her arms together with mine.

I stylishly removed it and forced a smile. “You know I don’t like guessing because I’m not good at that.” Just as she was about to talk, Jamie excused her by pulling me along in another way.

“Why are you listening to her? You know how she acts too flirty everywhere.” I could tell he was scared but why should he be scared of whatever she’s about to say.

“Are you hiding anything from me?” I asked him, he smiled gently which melted my heart. His cute calm face and his non challenging expression, the way he’s always able to make me weak in the knees is something I can never ignore.

He moved closer to me which was getting me nervous seeing him so close, I thought he wanted to kiss me so I closed my eyes but I heard him laugh softly.

Opening my eyes, I saw him staring at me, but it was in a way I couldn’t predict, he looked at me with so much interest which made me feel like he loved me for some moment.

I felt embarrassed by what I just did and covered my eyes running back to the party as I walked towards my seat.

As I sat down, the alpha came on the stage addressing the pack members while everyone stared in admiration. Of all packs, he was the most loved one and now he was going to step down for his son to take over.

Everyone was anxious to know who's going to be announced as the successor but now that Kingsley is gone, the only successor can only be Jamie .

He continued further to how the pack will be and will be more great when he took over then announced him as the next alpha.

Everyone was happy, of course everyone will be, he was very loved like his father and he was the strongest wolf and Prince in the Moon pack.

I smiled as Jamie went to the stage and addressed the pack. He doesn't refer to the people as the low and upper class, he only wants peace and love between his pack members.

Everyone hails him, even with his indifference with other pack members and his cold demeanor, he was still loved by everyone. That's what is called an alpha.

After everything, he came down and everyone left to either celebrate or have fun, he came to meet me where I was.

"Do you think I'll be great?" He asked me that question which made me stare at him in disbelief. Where was the event coming from? Of course hell he is great so why is he feeling insecure about it at this point.

"You were chosen for a reason best." The happiest thing I've ever had was about meeting him because he made me feel like I was the most special.

We both went to the second bar far a bit from the party so as to be alone by ourselves. As we walked, our hands were slightly touching each other and with no doubt , I felt sparks all over me.

Getting there, we both sat down asking for a cup of tequila shot. As he drank, I slowly drank from the glass cup.

"I mean I'm yet to know who my fated mate is and the pack will soon pressure me to get a Luna and even have a successor"

Heading what he said, I felt really bad hearing that. It was true, not having Luna beside him was really dangerous because every enemy pack would want to use it against him to step down.

"I understand you ,Jamie , you are just being insecure. I know you not having a Luna is not a great thing and might result in fighting for this throne.

He was staring at me again.

It was the same dark look he had given me earlier today.

It was the sort of look that would have sent warning bells through my head if it had been someone else but with Jamie, it felt like I was the only one in the whole world.

It felt like he was trying to consume me and honestly, I didn’t care one bit.

His gaze shifted to my lips and he paused while I gulped, my tongue darting out to wet my lips because I was so nervous.

I watched as his eyes followed the swift path of my tongue and I almost choked.

However, I didn’t have the time because he had covered the distance between us in one move and his lips had crashed on to mine, swallowing every bit of resistance I might have had.

I immediately melted into him, our bodies aligning like we were performing a well rehearsed dance.

Although we had both had a lot to drink, I had a vague inkling that the alcohol was not responsible for the fire that had sparked between us.

I wasn’t sure how we did it, but we somehow headed up to the room with our lips glued together and our fingers caressing each other frantically like we had lost something.

I heard a distant sound of a lock clicking just as he pushed my zipper down, following his action with a trail of hot, sloppy kisses along my spine.

When the zipper came down and my dress fell to the ground, he turned me around, his gaze sweeping over my naked frame, he looked positively ravenous.

I tried to also get his clothes off but he swatted my fingers away and instead, pushed me on to the bed, his lips latching on to my exposed breast.

My fingers immediately weakened and my mission to get him naked too was abruptly forgotten.

He alternated between my breasts for sometime before his head moved down to the bundle of heat between my legs.

I tried to protest, I wasn’t ready for him to kiss me there.

But again, my protests died in my throat because as soon as his tongue touched me, I bucked.

I could hear loud moaning and an almost inhuman growling and it took me a few seconds of confusion to realize that I was the one responsible for these noises.

When he eventually raised his head up, I gasped, embarrassed at the sight of his glistening lips, cheeks and nose.

He didn’t seem to care or even notice my actions or the reason for them.

He leaned forward kissing me slowly, his skin sliding against mine and I finally noticed that his clothes had all disappeared.

“Take a deep breath, baby”, he whispered, his tone commanding.

I did as he asked, looking up at him and wondering why he had asked me to do that.

I didn’t have to wonder for long because I soon felt the answer in between my legs.

It was big, throbbing and it wanted to go in to me.

I looked up at him, scared at the sheer size of it.

“I know, baby, I know,”he whispered, his commanding tone discarded.

I relaxed completely, knowing that he would be as gentle as possible.

And he was.

All I felt was a brief sting before I was thrown into a world of wet, sloppy ecstasy.

I let myself go, enjoying the ride up to the zenith.

As we approached, I felt his hold on me tighten and the feeling of being desired so, only heightened my urgency to reach the peak.

I began to move of my own accord, eliciting a guttural groan from him as even he had not expected me to move.

I was still processing the beautiful sounds he made when he grabbed me, pounding harder as we reached the final act.

I cried as I finished, tears of joy because that moment was the happiest moment of my life thus far.

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 100

Lark's POVMy hand was shaking when I woke up.Not violently. Just enough to be noticed when I reached for the water jug on the bedside table and I had to use both hands to keep it steady. I set it down carefully and sat on the edge of the bed for a moment in the grey morning light, willing it to stop.It stopped eventually. It always stopped eventually. That was the part I held onto. It always passed. The shaking, the dizziness, the pressure that gathered behind my eyes some mornings was like something pushing from the inside out. It came, and it went, and I functioned in between and nobody had to know.Cassie was still sleeping. I watched her for a moment before I stood up. She looked younger when she slept. She'd been watching me since we left Vale Pack. I knew she had. I could feel it, those small sideways glances she thought I didn't catch. .I got dressed quietly and left before she woke up.Mark found me in the courtyard before I'd even had a chance to settle back into the

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 99

Cassie's POVWe left Vale Pack just after sunrise.Jamie stood at the gates to see us off. He looked better than he had when we arrived. Still not fully himself, but the fog was gone from his eyes. He stood straight for the first time since we'd gotten there. He looked at me for a long moment before I mounted the horse. There was so much sitting in that appearance. Years of it. Things that probably deserved to be said out loud and never would be.A lot is better left unsaid."Thank you," he said finally."Take care of yourself," I told him. That was all.I took the reins, steadying myself. A gentle squeeze of my legs set it moving.I didn't look back. The ride home was quiet.Lark set the pace. Steady and unhurried, moving through the tree line where the morning light came through in broken pieces. I rode beside him without talking. I didn't have much to say, and he seemed to feel the same way.I was too busy watching him when he wasn't looking. It started with his hand. The one hold

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 98

Cassie's POVI didn't sit.Neither did she, after a moment. She had realized that sitting across from me like two people having tea wasn't going to work. She stood by the window instead, arms loose at her sides, looking out at the Vale Pack grounds like she owned them.Maybe she thought she did.I stayed near the door. Not blocking it. Just close enough that I knew exactly how many steps it would take to reach it if I needed to move fast. Old habit. The kind you develop when you've had to run before. The silence stretched.I wasn't going to fill it. That was her job. She called this meeting. She turned from the window eventually. Looked at me the way you look at something you've been thinking about for a long time and are finally seeing up close."You look like her," she said. "Our mother. Around the eyes."Our mother? What on heck is she trying to do? I said nothing. She smiled slightly. Like my silence was the answer she expected. "You didn't know her long enough to remember t

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 97

Cassie's POVI literally froze to the spot. My expression must have given her pleasure. The smile on her face was evident as she strode.Nobody moved. The shock rooted our feet to the floor. The room had gone the kind of still that happens when something impossible walks through a door and everyone present has to decide at the same time whether their eyes are lying to them.Jamie saw her first.Or maybe he'd heard her voice before I turned around. Either way when I looked at him his face had gone completely white. The cup in his hands tilted without him noticing. The warm liquid spilled over his fingers and he didn't feel it."Alexa." Her name came out of him like something he'd been carrying for a long time and had no idea how to put down. She looked at him briefly. Something moved across her face. Quick and complicated and gone before I could name it."Jamie," she said simply. That was all. Just his name. Like an acknowledgment. Like checking a box.He stared at her. His newly cle

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 96

Cassie's PovCord shifted the linen in his arms.He had the look of a man who wasn't sure if he was in trouble or not. That careful stillness people get when a Luna stops them in a corridor and looks at them the way I was looking at him."Is everything alright?" he asked."I just need to ask you something," I said. "Walk with me."He fell into step beside us without arguing. That was the thing about betas. Obedience was built into them the same way loyalty was. He didn't ask where we were going or why. He just followed me.I kept my pace easy. Unhurried. I didn't want him defensive."How long have you been Jamie's beta?" I asked."Six years," he said."So you were here when Alexa was."A slight pause. "Yes.""Were you close to her?"Another pause. Longer this time. "She was my Alpha's mate. I respected her the way you respect someone in that position." He chose his words carefully. "We weren't close."I nodded like that was all I needed. Let a few seconds pass."Jamie asked you to h

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 95

Cassie's POVI didn't sleep well that night.Vale Pack gave us quarters in the east wing. Clean rooms, good beds, everything a visiting Luna and her Alphas were entitled to. The staff assigned to us was quiet and careful not to look at me too long.A young lowly omega. Our room was guarded by two guards, plus the ones that followed us from our pack.Their hospitality was amicable.I lay on my back in the dark staring at the ceiling. The ring was out there somewhere in this pack. I could feel it the way you feel a storm coming before the clouds arrive. Lark's voice came quietly from beside me. "You're thinking aloud.""Ohh, I'm sorry.""Don't be." He paused and then sat erect. "What is it?"I breathe out."The curse feels too alive," I said. "Too fresh. Someone is still feeding it from somewhere inside this pack,” I turned to look at him in the dark. “Which curse?” He looked utterly confused. He wasn't a healer , so he was oblivious of what I was talking about, as well as everyone

The aroma of pine and smoke interwove the air as Cassie moved beyond the border stones, her heart beating to each step in a slow, fearful rhythm. She'd worn a hooded cloak dyed the shade of twilight storm, the fabric hugging her like a second skin. Underneath, the beat of her pulse had been louder

The war room, once a sanctuary of peace, had become a battlefield.Mark stood behind the great oak table, its surface littered with maps, scout reports, and half-empty mugs of bitterroot tea. Lark stood by the stone hearth, arms folded, eyes blazing with pent-up rage.Neither one of them spoke. The

The wind howled at the cabin, crashing its eaves with grasping fingers. The fire spat and hissed upon the hearth, casting weak shadows on the wood walls. It was a hunter's cabin, abandoned to age and overgrown in the upper pines of the Northern Ridge. Now it was Cassie's captivity.Kael strode like

The whispers began in the morning haze. Whispered, uncertain. By noon, there was thunder.Luna was lost.
