Cassie Jones’s POV

6:50PM, Friday evening.

I walked into my room happily staring at the ballroom gown in front of my dressing table, admiring it.

Tomorrow, my boyfriend or maybe it is just my own thought will be crowned the alpha after a lot of challenges. Of course, I'm expecting him to propose to me, or I'll end up proposing to him myself.

Even though I'm scared of getting rejected as he's yet to meet his fated mate and I'm yet to meet mine, I pray every time to the moon goddesses to make us mates.

I’m Cassie Jones. An orphan that seeks refuge here at my childhood friend, Jamie after an unexpected war destroyed my pack.

In the Vale pack, I am known for always being around Jamie , and everyone knows I have a crush on him, but he does not seem to notice.

He was my childhood best friend, and when I was ten, he protected me from being bullied because I was always shy and afraid of being around people . I have had a soft spot for him ever since.

Without a doubt, I love him and am willing to go to any length for him. He is the current Alpha's son, but he is stepping down and will be announced as the new alpha.

Even though his father was sad about his stepbrother, Kingsley, who had been kicked out of the pack a few weeks ago.

I arrived back here a few months ago after a war broke out in our pack leaving me homeless and an orphan.

As I stared, I heard my name from behind; it was Daisy , my female friend, coming into my room.

"Are you that excited about Jamie becoming the alpha?" She asked as soon as she came inside which made me frown.

"He deserves to be the alpha. Everyone knows that he has the aura of an alpha and has proven himself sufficiently.” I snapped back at her.

She rolled her eyes as she sat on my bed, "I wish he could look at you like you looked at him." I frowned angrily and chased her out the moment she said that.

I do not want anyone to ruin my mood until tomorrow because I was hoping to be in the best mood when I proposed to him.

I sighed as I sat on my bed. "Moon goddess." Before dozing off.

NEXT MORNING

As I stood up, I let out a yawn and stretched my arms into the air. It was still early in the morning because I just wanted to go as early as I could so I could see Jamie before he'll be called on stage.

I dressed up and looked at myself in the mirror adjusting my makeover before standing up to leave outside.

I spotted the car outside waiting for me which made me smile, he got me the ride to get to the main hall.

I got in and we started the ride. Getting there, he parked and came out to open the door for me, “Thanks.” I muttered before stepping out going into the hall.

Immediately I entered, I saw Daisy beside Jamie talking to him, making me frown. Just yesterday, she was talking about him like he was the biggest jerk of all time and now she’s acting all flirty around him.

I walked closer to them, seeing me, she frowned and quickly covered it up with a smile before coming to me, “Guess what Jamie just told me?” She asked, linking her arms together with mine.

I stylishly removed it and forced a smile. “You know I don’t like guessing because I’m not good at that.” Just as she was about to talk, Jamie excused her by pulling me along in another way.

“Why are you listening to her? You know how she acts too flirty everywhere.” I could tell he was scared but why should he be scared of whatever she’s about to say.

“Are you hiding anything from me?” I asked him, he smiled gently which melted my heart. His cute calm face and his non challenging expression, the way he’s always able to make me weak in the knees is something I can never ignore.

He moved closer to me which was getting me nervous seeing him so close, I thought he wanted to kiss me so I closed my eyes but I heard him laugh softly.

Opening my eyes, I saw him staring at me, but it was in a way I couldn’t predict, he looked at me with so much interest which made me feel like he loved me for some moment.

I felt embarrassed by what I just did and covered my eyes running back to the party as I walked towards my seat.

As I sat down, the alpha came on the stage addressing the pack members while everyone stared in admiration. Of all packs, he was the most loved one and now he was going to step down for his son to take over.

Everyone was anxious to know who's going to be announced as the successor but now that Kingsley is gone, the only successor can only be Jamie .

He continued further to how the pack will be and will be more great when he took over then announced him as the next alpha.

Everyone was happy, of course everyone will be, he was very loved like his father and he was the strongest wolf and Prince in the Moon pack.

I smiled as Jamie went to the stage and addressed the pack. He doesn't refer to the people as the low and upper class, he only wants peace and love between his pack members.

Everyone hails him, even with his indifference with other pack members and his cold demeanor, he was still loved by everyone. That's what is called an alpha.

After everything, he came down and everyone left to either celebrate or have fun, he came to meet me where I was.

"Do you think I'll be great?" He asked me that question which made me stare at him in disbelief. Where was the event coming from? Of course hell he is great so why is he feeling insecure about it at this point.

"You were chosen for a reason best." The happiest thing I've ever had was about meeting him because he made me feel like I was the most special.

We both went to the second bar far a bit from the party so as to be alone by ourselves. As we walked, our hands were slightly touching each other and with no doubt , I felt sparks all over me.

Getting there, we both sat down asking for a cup of tequila shot. As he drank, I slowly drank from the glass cup.

"I mean I'm yet to know who my fated mate is and the pack will soon pressure me to get a Luna and even have a successor"

Heading what he said, I felt really bad hearing that. It was true, not having Luna beside him was really dangerous because every enemy pack would want to use it against him to step down.

"I understand you ,Jamie , you are just being insecure. I know you not having a Luna is not a great thing and might result in fighting for this throne.

He was staring at me again.

It was the same dark look he had given me earlier today.

It was the sort of look that would have sent warning bells through my head if it had been someone else but with Jamie, it felt like I was the only one in the whole world.

It felt like he was trying to consume me and honestly, I didn’t care one bit.

His gaze shifted to my lips and he paused while I gulped, my tongue darting out to wet my lips because I was so nervous.

I watched as his eyes followed the swift path of my tongue and I almost choked.

However, I didn’t have the time because he had covered the distance between us in one move and his lips had crashed on to mine, swallowing every bit of resistance I might have had.

I immediately melted into him, our bodies aligning like we were performing a well rehearsed dance.

Although we had both had a lot to drink, I had a vague inkling that the alcohol was not responsible for the fire that had sparked between us.

I wasn’t sure how we did it, but we somehow headed up to the room with our lips glued together and our fingers caressing each other frantically like we had lost something.

I heard a distant sound of a lock clicking just as he pushed my zipper down, following his action with a trail of hot, sloppy kisses along my spine.

When the zipper came down and my dress fell to the ground, he turned me around, his gaze sweeping over my naked frame, he looked positively ravenous.

I tried to also get his clothes off but he swatted my fingers away and instead, pushed me on to the bed, his lips latching on to my exposed breast.

My fingers immediately weakened and my mission to get him naked too was abruptly forgotten.

He alternated between my breasts for sometime before his head moved down to the bundle of heat between my legs.

I tried to protest, I wasn’t ready for him to kiss me there.

But again, my protests died in my throat because as soon as his tongue touched me, I bucked.

I could hear loud moaning and an almost inhuman growling and it took me a few seconds of confusion to realize that I was the one responsible for these noises.

When he eventually raised his head up, I gasped, embarrassed at the sight of his glistening lips, cheeks and nose.

He didn’t seem to care or even notice my actions or the reason for them.

He leaned forward kissing me slowly, his skin sliding against mine and I finally noticed that his clothes had all disappeared.

“Take a deep breath, baby”, he whispered, his tone commanding.

I did as he asked, looking up at him and wondering why he had asked me to do that.

I didn’t have to wonder for long because I soon felt the answer in between my legs.

It was big, throbbing and it wanted to go in to me.

I looked up at him, scared at the sheer size of it.

“I know, baby, I know,”he whispered, his commanding tone discarded.

I relaxed completely, knowing that he would be as gentle as possible.

And he was.

All I felt was a brief sting before I was thrown into a world of wet, sloppy ecstasy.

I let myself go, enjoying the ride up to the zenith.

As we approached, I felt his hold on me tighten and the feeling of being desired so, only heightened my urgency to reach the peak.

I began to move of my own accord, eliciting a guttural groan from him as even he had not expected me to move.

I was still processing the beautiful sounds he made when he grabbed me, pounding harder as we reached the final act.

I cried as I finished, tears of joy because that moment was the happiest moment of my life thus far.

  • Rejected But Elevated    Epilogue

Cassie's POVThree weeks laterThe morning Lark beat Mark in the sparring yard was the morning I knew everything was going to be okay.It had been three weeks since Alexa turned to ash in our courtyard. Three weeks, the pack slowly finding its footing again. Three weeks of Lark eating properly and sleeping properly and waking up without that carefully measured way he used to move, like he was calculating how much energy each step would cost him.I was sitting in the covered viewing area overlooking the yard when it happened. Two guards stood at either side of me. Below, a small crowd of warriors had gathered along the edges of the yard the way they always did when the Alphas trained. Nobody announced it. The word just spread the way it always did and people showed up.Mark and Lark were at the center of it all. They'd been going at it for about twenty minutes. Back and forth, neither of them giving much away. Mark was faster. He always had been. But Lark was reading him, antici

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 110

Cassie's POVSmoke engulfed the entire courtyard and palace as a whole. It was choking with a pungent smell.Guards stumbled. Some went down on their knees coughing. Others swung blindly at nothing.Alot of guards had fallen unconscious after inhaling a lot of it.“What in heaven is this?” Quickly Mark tossed a face mask towards my direction. I wore it quickly and built a wall of protection around the courtyard so the smoke doesn't cause more harm. Then she walked through it.Alexa.Like the smoke was hers. Like she'd made it specifically so she could walk through it looking like that. Unhurried. Dressed simply. The crescent moon mark visible at her throat, catching what little light the smoke hadn't swallowed yet.She stopped in the middle of the courtyard and looked around slowly. Then she smiled."Did you miss me?"The twins broke through the protection wall and lunged toward her as well as the courtyard full of blinded guards.Alexa didn't even look at them. She was looking at me

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 109

Cassie's POVWe got back just before noon. The pack house was moving through its usual midday noise when we rode through the gates. I had the root wrapped carefully inside my jacket the whole ride back, one hand pressed against it every time the horse moved too fast over rough ground. Mark had noticed but didn't say a word either. The ride was quiet.Lark was sitting up in bed when we walked in. He looked at the root in my hands and then at my face and whatever he saw there made him sit up straighter."Is it good?" he asked."Yeah," I said.Mark pulled up a chair and sat down while I went straight to the preparation. This time I took my time with it. No rushing. No telling myself that the damage was close enough to a whole. I had what I needed, and I was going to use it properly.Lark watched me work without talking. Mark was quieter than usual too.The three of us just existed in that room together for a little while, and it felt okay. Heavy but okay. When everything was ready,

Cassie's POVI prepared the root that same evening.I didn't tell Lark how little I had to work with. I just set everything up the way Berta had described to Mark.Lark was sitting up in bed watching me move around the room. Mark was by the window. Neither of them was talking, which was fine because I didn't need conversation right now. All I needed were quiet and steady hands and about three times more root than I actually had."You don't have to look so serious," Lark teased.Quite a humor for a sick patient."I'm concentrating," I retorted.“Your facial expression reads more of worry than concentration,” he adjusted his sitting posture.I didn't respond to his last statement. I finished the preparation and brought everything to the bed and sat beside him and looked at him for a moment before I started. He looked better than he had a week ago. His melanin was coming back slowly. He was eating properly again. The shaking in his hands had reduced him to something almost manageabl

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 107

Cassie's POVJoelle was on her knees before I even reached the courtyard.I heard the commotion from the corridor and came out to find her there in the dirt, head bowed, hands pressed flat on the ground in front of her like she was trying to make herself as small as possible. Petra was standing beside her looking pale. The two guards who'd ridden with them were off to the side and neither of them was meeting my eyes. That alone told me everything."Get up Joelle," I said. She didn't move. She just started talking to the ground."I'm sorry, Luna. I'm so sorry, I tried. I really tried, but the ground was frozen solid, and we couldn't get the root out cleanly, and I thought I had it but when I pulled—" her voice broke, "—it snapped. Right at the base. I didn't mean to, I swear I followed everything you said, but my hands slipped and—""Joelle." My voice came out sharper than I meant it to. "Get up."She got up slowly. Her face was red and wet and her hands were still shaking. She was ma

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 106

Cassie's POVI was mixing Lark's morning treatment when the door opened and Mark walked in.He looked like someone who'd been riding hard and hadn't slept. His jacket was dusty, and his hair was pushed back in the way it got when he'd been running his hands through it repeatedly, which he only did when something was sitting heavy on him.Lark looked up from the bed. "Where have you been?"Mark pulled up a chair and sat down and looked at both of us. "Vale Pack."The spoon in my hand stopped moving.Does he know about the letter?"I went alone," he said before either of us could respond. "Before you say anything. I know. But I needed to find something, and I wasn't going to find it sitting here watching Sorin's face every morning."Lark's jaw tightened. "Mark—"Oh, it isn't about that, he went to find help for Lark."There's a healer," Mark said. "Her name is Berta. She's old. She trained with Sorin back then, and she knows things he doesn't." He looked at me directly. "She said it's n

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 84

The air in the Vale archives was thick and still, heavy with the scent of crumbling parchment and cold stone. Daisy pressed herself into the shadows of the wall, the rough-hewn rock biting into her back. She held her breath, counting the slow, fading footsteps of the patrol. One heartbeat. Two.

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 83

Cassie's PovThe council meeting was a special kind of torture, each minute stretching like frayed elastic. Across the polished table, Mark’s voice was a steady, professional drumbeat, outlining hunting rotations. A perfect Alpha. But the words dissolved into meaningless noise before they reache

Cassie's POVMy eyes were feeling heavy as I tried to open them. The sting of medicine in my nose. A deep, grinding throb in my shoulder.Alive. I was alive. The infirmary hummed with low moans and the quick steps of healers. The beds were full. Our guys. Their guys. It doesn't matter much now. T
