Kael won't shut up. My wolf has been pacing and snarling in my mind all day, ever since that incident with Penelope in the tunnel. He keeps throwing images at me her stricken face, the way she stumbled when she ran. Something that makes every instinct I possess stand at attention. "You're distracted," Dad observes from behind his massive oak desk. The Alpha's office overlooks our territory like a throne room, all dark wood."Madison's father called. He's concerned about your commitment to their arrangement." I force myself to focus on his words instead of Kael's increasingly agitated whining. "What arrangement?" "Don't play stupid, Timothy." His eyes narrow dangerously. "The mating contract we've been negotiating. Madison Sawyer is perfect Alpha Luna material strong bloodline, political connections, proper breeding." The words feel strange to my ears, what was I expecting to just fuck and pass. Madison family had strong political connections in the werewolf pack and my dad saw that as an opportunity to strengthen his status. I never had a say in the Matter so I nod anyway. This is what's has always been expected. "The ceremony is tomorrow night," Dad continues. "I want you to formally announce your intention to court her. Make it clear to the pack that you're settling down." Tell him no, Kael snarls. Tell him we won't be caged. But I can't. This is duty, and duty comes before everything else. Even before whatever strange pull I felt toward a certain Omega girl with devastating eyes. "Of course," I hear myself saying. "Whatever the pack needs." Dad's smile is sharp with approval. "Good boy. I've arranged for the announcement to coincide with your hockey victory celebration. Killing two birds with one stone." The meeting continues, but I'm only half-listening. My mind keeps drifting to physics class, to the way Penelope looked when Professor Williams talked about incompatible particles. She'd gone pale as moonlight, clutching her desk like it was the only thing keeping her upright. Why do I care? She's nobody a bottom-tier Omega from a disgraced family who clearly has some kind of unhealthy fixation on me. The video Madison posted proves it. Penelope was literally stalking me, watching me through cracks in the doors like some kind of obsessed fan. So why does Kael keep insisting something's wrong. "Timothy!" Dad's sharp bark jerks me back to the present. "I asked you a question." "Sorry," I straighten in my chair. "What was it?" "I said, what are you planning to do about the Omega situation?" My blood goes cold. "What Omega situation?" Dad's expression darkens. "Don't pretend you haven't seen that video, son. The whole pack is talking about it. Some pathetic Omega girl has been stalking you, and now it's public knowledge. It's quite embarrassing." "She wasn't stalking me," I said quickly, then cursed myself for defending her. "She just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time." "What happened?" Dad laughs, but there's no humor in it. "Timothy, she's been watching you for months. Multiple pack members have reported seeing her lurking around your usual haunts. This isn't a coincidence—it's an obsession." The news hits me. Months? Multiple sightings? Why didn't anyone tell me before now? Because you wouldn't have cared before, Kael whispers. But now. "What do you want me to do about it?" I ask carefully. "Handle it," Dad replies. "Publicly. Make it clear that this behavior is unacceptable, that there are consequences for Omegas who forget their place. The pack needs to see that the Blackthorn family doesn't tolerate disrespect." My stomach churns. "You want me to humiliate her?" "I want you to remind everyone where the lines are drawn." Dad leans forward."You're going to be Alpha someday, Timothy. How you handle challenges to your authority even pathetic ones sets the tone for your entire reign." The weight of expectation settles on my shoulders like a familiar burden. This is what being an Alpha heir means crushing anyone who threatens the hierarchy, even scared Omega girls with hopeless crushes. "I'll take care of it," I promise, hating how easily the words come. Dad nods approvingly. "Good. Do it tomorrow night, after the ceremony. Make sure the whole pack witnesses it. Let them see what happens when someone reaches too high." I leave his office feeling sick to my stomach. The hallways of our mansion feel like a mausoleum—all marble and ancestral portraits and the suffocating weight of legacy. Every Blackthorn Alpha stares down from their frames, reminding me of the blood that runs in my veins and the duties it demands. My phone buzzes with texts from teammates celebrating last night's championship win, but I can't summon any excitement. The victory feels hollow when I know what's coming tomorrow. In my room, I try to focus on game film, but the footage blurs as Kael continues his mental assault. She's not what they think, he insists. There's something special about her. She is important. "She's an Omega," I mutter aloud. "A nobody from a disgraced family who's been stalking me for months." Look deeper. "I've looked enough." I slam my laptop shut harder than necessary. "This conversation is over." But Kael refuses to back down. Throughout the evening, he keeps flooding my senses with memories I didn't know I'd stored Penelope helping a younger student with homework in the library, Penelope volunteering at the pack's charity drive despite having nothing to give, Penelope standing up to a group of bullies picking on a smaller Omega. Small moments. Glimpses of character that paint a picture completely different from the desperate stalker in Madison's video. By midnight, I'm pacing my room like a caged animal. Through my window, Moonlight Lake gleams in the distance the place where tomorrow night I would complete my mission.Timothy's POV"No." She turns to face me. Her eyes are bright with unshed tears. Angry tears. "I'm done pretending. I'm done lying to myself and everyone else.""What are you talking about?" My voice comes out strangled."I stooped low enough to hate her." Sophia's voice breaks. "Penelope. I hated that girl—envied her—all because of you. Do you know how pathetic that makes me feel?""Sophia""I wanted you." She stands abruptly. Her chair scrapes against the floor. "God help me, I actually wanted you. All those rumors about you being good in the bedroom that was part of why I agreed to this alliance. I thought maybe." She laughs bitterly. "I thought maybe I could make you forget her.""This isn't the place" Dad tries to interject."Where else?" Sophia whirls on him. "In private? Where I can cry alone while my husband stares at the ceiling and wishes I was someone else? Where I can pretend I don't know he's dying because he rejected his true mate?""You knew?" I stand up. "This whole ti
Timothy's POVDad storms into my apartment at six in the morning. No knock. No warning. Just the sound of the door slamming open and his footsteps echoing across the hardwood."We need to talk." His voice fills the space. "Now."I'm already awake. Haven't slept in three days, not since I got the anonymous email with proof of what he did to Penelope's family."About what?" I stand up from the couch. My back aches from sitting in the same position all night. "Your corruption? Your lies? Your complete destruction of an innocent family?"Dad's eyes narrow. "You've been talking to someone.""I've been reading." I grab the printed documents from the coffee table. "Financial records, emails that you framed Penelope's father years ago.""Where did you get those?" His voice drops."Does it matter?" I throw the papers at him. They scatter across the floor. "It's all true. You destroyed the Hale family to eliminate political opposition.""I did what was necessary." Dad's jaw tightens. "They were
Penelope POV "You'll find out soon enough. For now, just know you're not alone in this fight."The messages stop. The number goes dead when I try to call it."Coach is going to help," I tell my parents. "He's reviewing the video now.""Good." Dad sits back down. He looks less defeated now. "What else can we do?""We prepare." I stand up as energy courses through me. "We gather every piece of evidence we have. Financial records, witness statements. Anything that proves Marcus framed us.""I have boxes of documents." Mom heads toward the basement stairs. "I've been collecting them for years. Just in case.""I'll help." Dad follows her. "Penelope, you should rest. You've had a long day.""I can't rest." I'm already pulling out my laptop. "I need to research pack law. Find precedents. Anything that can help our case."They disappear downstairs. I hear boxes being moved. Papers shuffling.I spend the next three hours reading through pack laws and council procedures. My eyes burn, my head
Penelope's POV"This isn't your fault." Dad's voice is firm despite the tremor in his hands. "This is Marcus. This has always been Marcus.""But he's doing it because of me." I can't stop the tears now. They burn hot down my cheeks. "Because I won't stay invisible anymore.""Good." Mom grabs my hands. Her grip is tight. "You should never have had to be invisible in the first place.""Tell me everything." I wipe my face with my sleeve. "What exactly did Marcus say?"Dad stands and walks to his desk. He pulls out a folder. The papers inside look official. Legal."He filed a formal petition with the pack council." Dad spreads the documents across the coffee table. "Claims our family is disrupting pack harmony. That our continued presence in Frostfang territory creates political instability."I scan the documents. "He's using my relationship with Timothy as evidence." I point to a section. "Says I'm manipulating his son. Creating division between packs.""It's all lies." Mom's voice shak
Penelope's POVThe morning after the social gathering, I wake up feeling lighter.Like I've put down a weight I didn't realize I was carrying.Isla is already awake when I stumble into the kitchen. She's making coffee and scrolling through her phone."You're all over social media," she says without looking up. "Ice Angel Dumps Bloodfang Heir is trending.""Great." I pour myself coffee. The mug is warm against my palms. "Just what I need.""Actually, most of the comments are supportive." Isla turns her phone to show me. "People are calling you brave. Saying Liam had it coming."I scan the comments. She's right. Mixed in with the usual gossip and speculation are messages of support. Women thanked me for standing up to him. Men admitting they'd seen red flags in Liam's behavior."Huh." I hand the phone back. "That's unexpected.""You called out a powerful Alpha in front of half the territory's elite." Isla grins. "People respect that."Maybe or maybe they just love drama. My phone buzzes
Timothy's POVThe claws come during breakfast with Sophia. One second, I'm holding a fork. The next, black claws pierce through my fingertips and clatter against the plate. Coffee spills across the white tablecloth."Timothy." Sophia's voice is carefully neutral. "Your wolf.""I know." I force the shift back but it takes three tries. My hands shake as human nails replace claws. "Sorry.""This is the third time this week." She dabs at the coffee stain with her napkin. "Your control is slipping.""I'm handling it." I say."Are you?" She sets down her napkin. Her eyes are cool and assessing. "Because from where I'm sitting, you're barely holding yourself together."I don't answer. Because she's right.Kael is dying. I feel him fading a little more each day. Like a light slowly dimming. Soon there'll be nothing left but darkness."My brothers are concerned." Sophia pushes her plate away. Her voice drops, frustrated. "They're questioning whether this marriage is still viable. Whether you'l
