Serena’s POV

The world came back to me in pieces, not all at once.

First there was a steady beep, slow and sharp, like a clock that refused to stop. Then, a thick, cold smell of clean sheets and medicine filled my nose.

When I opened my eyes, a bright white light was shining down on me.

My arm throbbed before I even tried to move it. From my wrist to my shoulder, there was a deep, heavy, burning pain. I was wrapped in clean bandages that were tight and held everything in place

I let out a soft sound before I could stop myself.

A chair scraped close to the bed. Someone stood up quickly, knocking into the side table. I slowly turned my head, and the edges of my sight were still blurry.

Damian stood there, pale, eyes red, hands shaking at his sides.

He looked like he had been awake all night. His hair was messy, his tie was missing, and his shirt was wrinkled.

The strong, sharp man I knew looked worn out and hollow.

For once, his face had no mask left to hide behind.

"You're awake," he s

Serena’s POVThe flash drive sat at the center of the table like it was alive. It was small, black, and ordinary, yet no one reached for it.The glass surface beneath it reflected our faces in broken angles. The lights above seemed to be waiting, too sharp, too dazzling.Nathan stood close to it,his shoulders tense, his fingers hovering. He did not rush, and that frightened me more than fear would have. When he finally picked it up, he held it like something fragile and cursed.Adrian watched him without blinking, his injured arm resting stiffly at his side. The room was quiet in the way storms are silent before they break. No one spoke, not even Leo, who usually filled silence with movement.I could hear my own breath, shallow and careful. My heart thudded loud enough that I wondered if they heard it too.Nathan slid the drive into his laptop. The soft click sounded too final. The screen flickered once, then twice. Like a warning sign, a red title came into view.PROJECT PHOENIX.Th

  • Rejected By My Husband: Cherished By My Three Brothers    CHAPTER 89

Serena’s POVThe evacuation order cut through Valehart Mansion like a blade. Sharp, relentless sirens wailed from the rafters, cutting off any communication.Security doors slid open one by one as red lights blazed around the hallways.People surged forward, fear driving their steps faster than reason.Hands brushed my shoulders as I walked with the crowd.Perfume, sweat, and panic mixed in the air until it felt thick in my lungs. The air seemed heavy in my lungs, a mixture of sweat, perfume, and panic.Somewhere behind us, someone was crying and calling a name over and over.I didn't look back. I maintained my look forward, concentrating on the green-lit exit signs amidst the confusion.Adrian’s earlier warning echoed in my head, sharp and unfinished.Nathan’s voice followed soon after, firm, steady, trying to control what could not be controlled. When we burst into the open air, the night hit me hard. A chilly breeze whipped across my skin, piercing both silk and terror. The expansi

  • Rejected By My Husband: Cherished By My Three Brothers    CHAPTER 88

Serena’s POVThe countdown on my phone kept ticking even after the screen went dark. Forty-eight hours seemed terrifyingly close and far away at the same time.Staff and security remained tense, and the mansion hummed with silent activity. No one slept, and no one pretended this was nothing and was going to end peacefully. At exactly 6:12 am in the morning, the first system suddenly went down without prior notice. In the control room, one screen flickered, froze, and then went dark.Within seconds, another one followed, then another, like falling lights in a dark tunnel. The quiet hum of machines turned into sharp alarms that cut through the atmosphere.I stood motionless for half a second, watching the red warning appeared on the monitors.“Close it down,” Nathan snapped, already moving. His fingers flew over the keyboard as he pulled one of the chairs close, his face tight and pale. This was not a glitch, and we all knew it.The servers dropped one after another, disrupting access

Serena’s POVThe envelope sat on the long table like a warning that wouldn't go away. Its edges were clean, sharp, untouched by dust, as if it wanted to be seen.Nathan stood beside it with his hands clenched, while Adrian leaned back in his chair, one arm still bound. No one spoke until the forensic team finished their quiet work. The lead investigator cleared his throat and slid a report forward. “The bullet casing matches the same firearm used at the gala,” he said calmly. His finger tapped the paper once, firm and sure, like a judge’s hammer. "These marks are exactly the same.”Adrian let out a short breath that sounded like a laugh without humor.“I told you,” he said, his jaw tight. “This is Vanessa,” he added, his eyes lifting to meet mine. “She’s not hiding anymore.”Nathan slammed his hand on the table. “So she sends bullets now,” he snapped. “Sending messages carved in metal,” he continued, pacing the room.“She wants to put fear into us.”I picked up the casing with gloved

  • Rejected By My Husband: Cherished By My Three Brothers    CHAPTER 86

Serena's POV The news of the gala shooting broke before dawn, flashing across every screen with bright red headlines and sharp voices. I stood in front of the TV in the living room, with my arms crossed tightly, watching a video of the gala where my face was shown over and over again. The world had decided this was my story to carry, whether I wanted it or not. The phones kept ringing, and the calls made the phones vibrate on tables and chairs like insects that couldn't stay still. Nathan muted one station and changed to another, his jaw tense as reporters kept saying the same things. Adrian's name was repeated over and over, followed by words like critical, unstable, and unknown. I felt a tightness in my chest every time his name was spoken, but my face stayed calm. By morning, the mansion felt like a command center instead of a home. The security staff moved quietly as they carefully checked the doors, windows, and halls with sharp eyes. Staff whispered as they passed, their fea

  • Rejected By My Husband: Cherished By My Three Brothers    CHAPTER 85

Serena’s POVThe hospital room smelled antiseptic, and machines beeped in a slow, steady beat. Adrian, who was pale but alive, lay on the bed with a tight mouth as the doctor finished looking at his arm. I stood by the window and shook my hands together to stop it from shaking. I felt like every noise in the room was too loud and cutting into my chest. The doctor, after clearing his throat, spoke in a cool and careful way. He said that the bullet missed important bones but hurt nerves in Adrian's arm. He said that movement would come back with rest and regular exercise, but it would take a while. His words hit like stones, heavy and sharp, one after the other.Adrian nodded once, unafraid and unfazed. He thanked the doctor and asked simple questions about how often he would go to therapy and what he could do to manage his pain. I watched him closely and thought, How can he stay so calm when everything feels broken? The room became quiet again after the doctor left.I finally t
