LOGIN(Elvina POV)
The morning air was crisp as I dropped Iris off at her elementary school. Seeing her bright, innocent smile as she waved goodbye from the school entrance gave me a moment of clarity.
Whatever storm was coming, I had to keep my head up for her.
After parking my car at the hospital, I put on my white coat, draped my stethoscope around my neck, and officially stepped into my role as a general surgeon.
Medicine was the one place where I felt in total control.
The chaos of pack politics, ex-husbands, and mysterious Alpha strangers couldn't touch me inside an operating room.
After finishing morning rounds and reviewing a few patient charts, I sat down at my desk to catch up on paperwork.
After finishing morning rounds and reviewing a few patient charts, I sat down at my desk to catch up on paperwork.
Thinking it might be an emergency regarding my family, I quickly answered. "Mom? Is everything okay?"
"Elvina," my mother’s voice came through the speaker, crisp and entirely unbothered by my worried tone. "Felix came by the house earlier this morning."
I pinched the bridge of my nose, feeling an instant headache coming on. "Mom, please,"
"He was so sincere, Elvina," she interrupted smoothly, ignoring my protest. "He brought flowers, he sat with your father and me, and he admitted he made a massive mistake. He genuinely wants to fix your marriage and bring your family back together. You really need to consider forgiving him."
A bitter laugh escaped my throat. "Forgive him? Mom, Felix betrayed me! He was the one who asked for the divorce in the first place, and he didn't give a damn about Iris when he was running off with his secretary. Now he only wants me back because he needs to maintain the image of a respectable Gamma for his pack position. He's using me! Why is everyone taking his side?!"
"Elvina, don't be naive," my mother scolded, her voice hardening. "All men make mistakes. All men cheat at some point! But Felix is a respected Gamma, he comes from a good family, and he's willing to come back to you. You just need to endure it and tolerate it like a mature woman."
Tears of frustration pricked my eyes. "Tolerate it?!"
"Look at yourself," she continued coldly. "You aren't getting any younger, Elvina. No high-status wolf or wealthy man is going to want to marry a divorced single mother with baggage. Who else is going to take care of you? You need to think about Iris’s future!"
"I am thinking about Iris!" Tears finally spilled down my cheeks, hot and angry. "I am showing her that a woman doesn't have to stay with a man who disrespects and degrades her! Even if I spend the rest of my life entirely alone, even if no one ever accepts me, I will NEVER go back to Felix!"
Before she could say another word, I slammed my finger onto the screen, ending the call.
I leaned over my desk, resting my head in my hands as heavy sobs shook my shoulders.
The cruel weight of her words pressed down on me, made infinitely heavier by the secret growing inside me.
I was pregnant. I was carrying the child of an Alpha I barely knew, while my own family treated me like damaged goods.
A sudden, sickening thought hit me: *What if Arthur is married? What if I unknowingly became another woman's mistress?*
The thought sent a jolt of panic through my chest. Desperate for answers, I pulled up the search bar on my office computer and typed in his name: Arthur Thornridge.
Dozens of high-resolution news articles, business profiles, and financial magazines flooded the screen.
I clicked through the photo galleries, scanning through years of public appearances. In every single photograph, whether at international corporate summits, charity galas, or pack ceremonies, he stood alone.
Broad-shouldered, imposing, and breathtakingly stern, he was never accompanied by a female companion.
Seeing his sharp jawline and those intense gray eyes on my monitor made my cheeks burn instantly.
Memories of his hands on my hips, his deep voice growling low in my ear, and the feverish heat of his body against mine sent a sudden, unwanted blush spreading all the way down to my collarbone.
Just as my heart began to hammer against my ribs, the office desk phone rang sharply, shattering the quiet room.
I gasped, quickly closing the browser window before grabbing the receiver. "Dr. Patrick," I said, clearing my throat to hide the tremor in my voice.
"Dr. Patrick, your next consultation has arrived," the nurse at the front desk announced.
"I understand," I replied, taking a deep breath and wiping the stray tears from my face. "Send them in."
I adjusted my white coat, stood up, and pulled a fresh chart toward me, forcing myself into a professional demeanor.
A firm, heavy knock echoed against the wooden door.
"Come in," I called out smoothly.
The door handle turned, swinging open without hesitation.
A towering silhouette stepped into the room, shutting the door firmly behind him with a quiet click. My breath hitched in my throat, the clipboard slipping an inch in my grip.
Standing in the center of my small hospital office, filling the entire room with his overwhelming Alpha presence, was Arthur.
ARTHUR’S POVThe light blue walls of the ice cream parlor felt absurdly small, but I didn't care. I sat across from six-year-old Iris at a tiny round table, feeling like a giant sitting in a dollhouse. My dark charcoal suit jacket was draped over the back of my chair, my cuffs rolled up twice to keep from dragging through stray drips of sticky strawberry ice cream. Outside, two of my personal guards stood near the black SUV parked at the curb, keeping their distance while making sure nobody got too close."You have a big pink drop on your nose," I said, leaning forward slightly.Iris giggled, tapping her nose with a small, napkin-wrapped finger and missing the spot completely. "Did I get it?""Not even close," I said. I picked up a clean napkin, leaned across the table, and gently wiped the ice cream from her tip.She smiled up at me, completely relaxed. It had taken weeks of patience to reach this point. When I first started showing up around Elvina’s home, Iris had been cautious
ELVINA’S POVI arrived at the Thornridge’s mansion hours later, in order to complete the formal process of the Contract The signature line on the final page of the executive contract was smooth, bold, and entirely mine.I set the Montblanc pen down on Arthur’s vast, dark mahogany desk, watching the black ink dry against the heavy bond paper. The title sat prominently near the top of the header: *Chief Medical Director – Thornridge Community Trauma & Research Center.*Across the desk, Arthur leaned back in his leather chair. The tailored cut of his charcoal suit jacket accented the broad breadth of his shoulders, but the usual razor-sharp, dominant aura he projected in the boardroom was completely softened as his dark eyes locked onto mine. A slow, genuine smile tugged at the corner of his lips.“It’s official,” he said, his voice low, rich, and grounding. “The board unanimous, the funding secured, and the signature on paper. The center is officially yours, Elvina.”I reached out
ARTHUR’S POVThe silence in the private wing of the estate was far too vast, far too cold.I stood in the center of the guest parlor, my heavy leather glove stretched tight over my right hand, concealing the crescent mark that still throbbed with a slow, inescapable pulse. I didn't need to look at my wrist to know she was gone; the distinct, intoxicating scent of her, wild honey, rain, and the faint, sweet trace of her golden light, was already fading from the air, replaced by the sterile chill of an empty room.Elvina had run.Not out of spite, and not because she was foolish, but because the weight of what we had awakened between us was enough to crush anyone who had spent her life believing she was just an ordinary wolf.I had promised her time. I had promised her space. But seeing her freeze when my hand brushed hers, seeing the sheer terror in her eyes when our skin bound us together in ancient fire,I knew I had pushed her to her limit."She took a private car forty minutes ago,
ELVINA’S POVI heard the heavy iron gates of the Thornridge estate close behind the sedan with a muted, metallic thud, and for the first time in days, the suffocating pressure in my chest loosened,if only by a fraction.I couldn't stay in that private wing another hour without feeling like the walls were closing in to crush me. Between the lingering terror of Iris’s outburst, the sheer weight of Arthur’s unyielding Alpha presence, and the burning mark etched into my left wrist, the sanctuary he offered had begun to feel like a gilded cage. Every time Arthur looked at me, his amber eyes burned with a possessive, ancient intensity that made my pulse erratic. He called it an Awakened Mark. He called us mates. But to me, it felt like an iron chain tethering my heart and soul to a world I didn't understand, to a man whose power could swallow me whole.I needed air. I needed space. Most of all, I needed ground beneath my feet that wasn't owned by a billionaire werewolf or monitored by p
ELVINA’S POVThe heavy silence of the private wing felt less like safety and more like a vacuum waiting to implode.Iris was finally asleep in the nursery, her tiny body exhausted from the terrifying outburst that had shattered the courtyard fixtures only hours before. Her breathing was soft and rhythmic, but every time I looked at her small chest rising and falling beneath the duvet, my own heart stuttered. I had spent six years telling myself my daughter was just sensitive, just a little more intuitive than other kids her age. But no ordinary child shattered steel gates with raw silver fire, and no ordinary doctor possessed a touch that could soothe a racing heart back into balance with a flicker of golden light.I sat in the armchair in the corner of the guest parlor, staring down at my left wrist.Even through the soft fabric of my sweater, I could feel it. The skin was warm, pulsing with a faint, steady rhythm that didn't match my own pulse. I pulled the sleeve back, staring a
ARTHUR’S POVI was still in the subterranean war room, flexing my hand inside the tight leather glove to dull the burning heat of the mark, when Zach’s terminal let out a sharp, double-pitched chime.Zach didn't say a word at first. His fingers flew across his keyboard, bringing up a live feed of encrypted access logs from the pack’s central vault. The pale blue glare of the monitors caught the hard, flat line of his jaw."Arthur," Zach said quietly, his eyes following the bright red security flags creeping up the monitor. "Corvin isn't just giving Felix coffee and a chat. He just logged Felix into the pack's historical archives under guest clearance."I turned away from the digital map console, my eyes narrowing. "The deep archives? Felix shouldn't be allowed near an old land title, let alone the ancestral vaults.""He's not down there in person—Corvin is pulling the files on his authority," Zach said, hitting a key to mirror the search queries across the central wall display. "Loo
