I smiled softly at Cathy as she dried my tears.
"I think I should focus on studying and graduation right now," I said walking to my bed.
"Katie Kat, seriously, you're nineteen, hot,” Cathy said, strutting to our closet, “and as far as I'm concerned, unattached."
"We're still technically together," I said, falling back on my bed, “I think.”
"Then dump his ass."
"Cathy - " I groan.
"Come on Katie, there's a mixer tonight,” Cathy said, searching the closet. “Everyone is going to be there."
Cathy pulls out black skinny jeans, a dark green iridescent mesh top, and a black crop top with dark green combat boots.
Tossing them on my bed. "Really?” I asked, checking out the outfit.
"Oh yeah," Cathy said, smirking at me.
Next thing I know I’m with Cathy at the mixer getting a drink.
"I'll get two Call of the Wild Martinis please," Cathy ordered.
"I should really be studying, Cathy." I said, trying to cover up some, with Cathy’s biker jacket.
"No, you should be here,” Cathy said, handing me the purple concoction she ordered.
"Here, taste this and loosen up." I hesitate.
"Just try it," Cathy said, taking a healthy sip.
"How is it?" I asked curious.
"It's positively sinful,” Cathy smirks.
She smiled at me, swaying to the music. I took a tiny sip.
The sweet and bitter flavor danced on my tongue.
I took a gulp, looking at Cathy, giggling, clinking her glass to mine.
“There you go babes, " Cathy laughs, grabbing my hand.
Pulling me to the dance floor, Cathy swayed her hips, twirling me as I laughed.
I haven't felt happy like this in over a week. That thought quickly sobbers me.
Cathy immediately notices the change, pulling me off the dance floor.
"What-, " Cathy starts.
"Ladies,” a gorgeous, tall guy interrupts her, “could I get you another drink?”
"No-," I start, but Cathy cuts in.
"Sure,” Cathy agrees, handing our glasses over. Grinning, he heads to the bar.
"Okay, spill," Cathy demands, worriedly.
"It's nothing," I said, not wanting to ruin her fun.
"It's Draven, isn't it," Cathy asked, always able to read me.
“Yeah,” I said, tears stinging my eyes, “I haven’t felt like this since we last saw each other."
"Before he ghosted you?” Cathy asked, crossing her arms. I nod, a tear falling.
"Nope, none of this, "Cathy orders softly,"You aren't wasting the night on that trash."
“Is everything okay," the blonde guy asks, drinks in hand.
"Perfect timing, sweetness," Cathy says, grabbing the drinks, thrusting mine at me, “down it babes, trust me, you need it."
"Screw it," I said, downing the purple monstrosity.
"Hell yeah," the guys cheer as Cathy downs hers too.
"I always have your back," Cathy whispers into my ear, hugging me tightly.
"Let's dance," Cathy says, grabbing the blonde's arm.
"You go" I said, "I'm going to get another drink first."
"I better see you dancing," Cathy demands, smiling,"don't make me come get you." "Yes ma’am,” I said sarcastically, chuckling.
Cathy snickers, amused, "Oh babes, nothing about me screams Ma'am."
Grabbing two of the guys arms, she pulls them to the dance floor.
I love Cathy to death but I can't deal with any guys right now. Draven was all I could focus on.
I know we’re too different, worlds apart.
But why’d he even date me if it was going to end this way?
Walking to the bar, I grab another drink. Draven wasn’t who I thought he was.
By the time the alcohol hit I knew what my next step was.
I needed to break up with Draven, for my own sake.Finishing my drink, I was feeling pretty good. Smacking my lips, savoring the delicious taste.
I really wanted to find Draven.
The alcohol gave me the courage I needed. I walked around looking. No luck.
I was turning the corner when my head began to spin. I swayed toward the floor.
Suddenly, arms wrapped around me.
Steadying myself, I looked up, my blurred vision taking in the man who caught me. His hazy face looked like Draven.
Well except for the unruliness of his hair, the pricings in his ears, and the way his shirt hung open, revealing the pale skin of his delicate collar bone.
Pushing him away I staggered, before righting myself.
"Hands off Draven,” I said, drunkenly.
He smirks, amused as he fixes his necklaces.
Necklaces, when did he start wearing those? Why is that hot?
Draven's chuckle was different, darker, sexy.
It cut off my muddled thoughts.
I stood tall, staring him dead in the eye.
"We're over," I said, crossing my arms, glaring at him, "the crap you pulled today, the way you treated me, was bull shit."
I wobble slightly. He grabs my arm to help, but I smack it away.
"No touchy," I hiss or slur, I'm not quite sure.
“I thought we were in love, guess I was mistaken," I say with my drunken confidence, "doesn’t matter anyway, we're done, just to be clear."
Grinning to myself, I probably look crazy but, I'm proud of myself.
I did it, I broke up with the school's top elite.
Draven hums, in thought, pulling back my attention. The sound sends shivers down my spine.
"I don't think we've ever been in love," the man said teasingly as he smirked, trailing his gaze over me, “well, at least not yet."
I feel the hot flush of my cheeks, embarrassment setting in.
I just broke up with the wrong guy.
“I'm so sorry," I whisper in a rush.
Turning to escape, everything spins, worse than before.
After that, the night becomes a blur.
I remember the guy's arms around me again, staring up at him.
His eyes locked onto mine.
Through my haze I swear I saw my eyes glow gold in the reflection in his. I tried to push him away but failed, the world fading to black.
The soft satin against my skin stirred me awake.
Prying my eyes open, I quickly shut them.
My head was pounding, the sun shining through the sheer curtains, made it worse. Trying again, I blinked, confused.
Sitting up, the morning breeze hit my skin.
Looking around the room, I felt the bed shift.
Spinning, I saw the guy from the party last night, sleeping beside me, naked. Burying my face in the sheet, I groaned quietly.
What the hell happened last night?
Pulling the sheet from my chest, I glanced down.
“Shit,” I curse.
I ran my hand over the blooming hickies on my breasts, across my stomach.
Flashes of black satin sheets, pale perfect hands running over my heated skin.
Dragging my nails down his back, his hot, wet mouth attacking my breasts, my neck. When I pushed him on the bed, crawling over him, biting his collarbone.
"Oh my god." I groan, grabbing my phone.
Turning it on, I see that date.
I forgot it’s Saturday, I was supposed to be at home, visiting mom today. Ignoring the missed calls from Draven, I message mom.
I let her know I'm okay, but that something had come up last night. Message sent, I hover over the missed call notifications.
Before I can decide, I received a response from mom.
“Hurry home, Katie. I want you to meet your new stepfather and stepbrothers."
I sat there, shocked.
"What the f-"
