Chapter one hundred and seventy three : The Choice

Damon's POV

Moonlight poured in softly through the open window, casting a gentle glow over Sophia's face. She slept beside me, her head on my chest, our hands entwined. Her warmth, her scent, the soft rhythm of her breathing—everything about her was home.

It had been a long, stressful day, but now… everything was quiet. Peaceful. Just the two of us. No pack politics. No obligations. Just love.

Sophia laughed softly at something I said—a small, beautiful laugh that squeezed my heart.

"I've missed this," she said, tracing lazy circles on my chest with her finger. "Us. Like this."

I nodded and kissed her head. "Me too. Every moment with you doesn't seem like it's enough."

She lifted her head and looked at me. Her eyes gleamed in the dim light. "Damon?"

"Hm?"

"There's something I need to tell you."

My heart missed a beat. The tone of her voice was serious.

"What is it?" I asked.

She bit her lip. Her eyes dropped to my naked chest, as if s

LChapter :177 "All We Had LeftDamon's POVI marched out of the room—shirtless, bare feet, my heart thudding like a drum inside my chest. The hall was quiet, but not peaceful. My brain was not quiet. It was rowdy. Rowdy with remorse. Rowdy with sorrow. Rowdy with her name.Sophia.I did not know where she had vanished. I did not even know how to go near her.But I did have to.I walked through the packhouse, my step slow, my chest heaving and falling too rapidly. Every room I searched was empty. My heart beat more rapidly the longer she did not turn up.And then. I heard it.A soft sound. A broken sound. Crying.I trailed after it as if the fate of my life depended on it.There she was.In the living room. Fisted on the edge of her couch. Palms in her face. Shoulders shaking like the world was crashing down around her shoulders.Sophia. My mate. My queen. My heart.I stood frozen in the doorway, there for what felt like forever. My legs were leaden. My throat was dry. I didn't have w

Chapter one hundred and seventy six: The Choice That Broke UsDamon's POVI was standing in the center of the room, fists on my hips, jaw set in a hard line.Sophia stood before me, her eyes still puffy from tears, her lips quivering as she tried to keep her voice from shaking."Please, Damon," she said quietly. "Just do it. Let it be over. Let's not prolong this any longer than we have."I gazed at her, refusing to accept what she was telling me."You want me to sleep with someone else? Another woman?" I snapped. My voice hurt, bitter. "You're telling me to do this, stand here and see your own heart shattering apart?"She shook her head, but she did it slowly, her body quivering. This is not about me anymore," she said. "This is about standing your ground. About demonstrating that you can produce an heir. That you're still the Alpha they want.""And this is how you think it's going to be?" I growled. "With some unknown we brought in from outside the pack, some masked woman whose name

Chapter one hundred and seventy five: Behind the DoorSophia's POVI did not go far after closing the door. My legs were leaden, as though they did not wish to move. I stopped a few steps from the door and leaned against the wall. My chest was tightening. My heart was beating so hard, I thought it would explode from my ribs. Everything felt wrong.I had left another woman in my partner's bed. I had given him away, if only for a night. And there I was—standing outside the door—waiting.Waiting like a fool.I wrapped my arms around myself and stared at the floor. The hallway was dark, quiet. Every second passed like an hour. I didn't want to imagine what was happening behind the door, but my mind wouldn't quit drawing painful pictures. What if he was embracing her? What if they were already in bed? What if he was kissing her lips the way he kissed mine?I felt my eyes prick with tears. I blinked hard and looked away."No," I whispered. "Don't think about it."But I could not help mysel

Chapter one hundred and seventy four: The Masked StrangerSophia's POVThe evening was chilly this time.A little too chill for my complexion.A bit too chill for my heart.I stood out at the back of the packhouse, wrapping my arms about my chest, waiting. I did not realize how long. Every second gnawed upon me… agonized. The pack club manager then walked across the gate. The she-wolf by his side. She was dressed in a long black coat and had a white mask painted across the lower half of her face. I couldn't quite make out her eyes. Just her hair… long, dark, falling down like a shadow. She spoke not a word. She smiled not. She simply followed quietly, as if this were a job.Which it was.She had come for one reason. To bear Damon's child. To walk away. And never look back.I swallowed hard."Alpha's mate," the manager said respectfully, bowing slightly. "She's ready."I nodded silently. I couldn't talk. My throat was closed.I turned and started to walk into the packhouse. I could hea

Chapter One hundred and seventy Two : Only YouDamon's POVThe house was too silent.I came out of the room and called out her name."Sophia?"There was no answer.I checked the hallway. It was empty. My chest tightened as I rushed. Maybe she was in the kitchen. Maybe in the garden. Maybe she just needed some fresh air.But she wasn't in the kitchen. She wasn't in the garden. She wasn't anywhere.I went from room to room. The office. The lounge. The small balcony where she liked to read.Still nothing. My heart started racing.Where would she be?The pack house wasn't tiny, but I knew every nook.I tried them all.Nothing.I walked back and forth in the living room, pushing a hand through my hair. What if anything happened to her? What if someone abducted her?I reached my hand into my pocket to call Lucas. Maybe she told him where she was going. Maybe he saw her leave. But I had not even gotten a chance to press his name on the screen before the door opened. And there she was.Sophia

Chapter 171 The Search BeginsSophia's POVI stood by the window of Damon's room, gazing out at the moonlit sky. It all seemed so peaceful outside, but within me… everything was chaotic. My mind couldn't be silenced. My heart couldn't be put to rest.I couldn't stay still anymore. I had to do something. I had to be useful. I'd be lost in my own thoughts, in guilt, in regret if I stayed there. Damon had accepted the idea. We would have a woman carry our child — a woman from outside the pack, a woman who would leave after giving birth. It wasn't what I'd expected. It wasn't the way I'd imagined we'd grow our family. But if this is what it came down to, for Damon to hold on to being Alpha… then I'd do it.I took my coat and crept out of the room quietly. He must not know that I am stepping out of the packhouse by this time of the day.The halls were black, most of the pack fast asleep. I crept, hands shaking a little. I didn't know what I was looking for, but I knew where I had to be — t

Chapter 170: My Heart Doesn't UnderstandSophia's POVThere was silence in Damon's room, louder than a scream.I wrapped my knees into my chest on the edge of the bed. My fingernails sank into Damon's bedsheet material, but that wasn't comfort. Nothing ever would be.I couldn't help but hear him in my head. The anger in his eyes. The way he stormed off, not even giving me the chance to defend myself. My chest was tight, like something was pressing up against it and keeping me from breathing properly.Where did I go wrong? All I ever wanted to do was assist.I believed I was doing a brave thing—something that indicated how much I cared about him. About his title. About his legacy. But perhaps I was mistaken. Perhaps love wasn't meant to be this way. There were tears in my eyes, and I brushed them away hastily, angrily, like it was a flaw. But the harder I struggled to combat it, the more they fell.I scanned the room. It was full of things, all of them suffused with memories of us—our

Chapter 169: The Last Thing I Wanted to HearDamon's POVI slammed the door to the room behind me.My heart was pounding too hard. My jaw was tight. My hands were holding so tight they were shaking.I couldn't believe what I'd just heard.Sophia—my friend, my Luna, the woman I had promised to keep safe and to love—had just informed me that she wished for me to sleep with someone else. That I go out and get another woman pregnant. That we name her ours and act as if nothing was amiss. What kind of joke was that?I walked straight to my personal room. The room I escaped to when I needed to catch my breath. When I needed silence. But tonight, there was no peace to be found here.I shook off my jacket, tossed it on the chair, and prowled around the room like a caged wild animal. Her voice was still ringing. Tranquil. Gentle. Almost too peaceful. She said she only wanted to help me. That she knew how much I had longed for a child. That this was a way of protecting my position as Alpha. Tha
