Kaitlyn could not believe her bad luck. From all people, she had to be found by his father's brother. The fate was cruel and showed no mercy. Kaitlyn wondered if there was any happy ending waiting for her. - When are you going to take me to him? - She asked simply; there was no need to pretend anymore. It was clear why her uncle brought her here. Cassius raised his brow, crossing his arms over his chest. - I think you got the wrong impression of me. - He said slowly. - Do I? It sounds like too much of a coincidence that you found me not long after the incident with my wolf brother. - Kaitlyn gave him a skeptical look. - It is straightforward, but if you prefer to look after a more complex explanation, so be it. - Her uncle replied, shrugging his arms. - Please enlighten me then. What are you doing here out of nowhere? - She asked dryly. - Out of nowhere? I lived here before you. - Cassius chuckled. - Maybe it will shock you, but I wish to avoid my brother as much as you. - Som
- I think we should be going back. - Kylan looked at the rest of his team. All of his men were exhausted. He made them look for the last two days without a break. Now, every member of his search party could only dream about going back home. Again, his plan was flawless. There was no way his parents would have any doubts about his willingness to find Kaitlyn. There were too many witnesses that could confirm he was restless during this mission. Unfortunately, his sister was better at hiding her tracks. It was not a complete lie. Kaitlyn, in fact, did a good job. His help was needed on a few occasions when she left some tracks, but he was able to get rid of them without issues. Now, when they did all they could, Kylan was not worried about any questions his parents may have. - We can still search. - One of the warriors said quietly, almost making him grit his teeth. - Don't fool yourself. I admire your stubbornness, but the rest is barely standing on their feet. We need some rest. Not
King Lucius looked at Kylan after he dared to speak up. - Finally, someone with some sense here. Stand up and come closer. It felt like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders. He stood up and looked the dragon straight in his eyes. Lucius chuckled at this audacity. No one in its right mind would dare to look at him so openly. - It looks like you know what I am talking about. - The dragon shot a glance at Alpha. Felix did not even flinch since Lucius still held his mate. He could only think about her safety. Kylan smirked gently, coming closer to the dragon. - The girl you are asking about lived with us for over eighteen years. We found her on the porch; my parents decided to care for her. We were raised as siblings. Lucius listened to him in silence. - How thoughtful. I should thank you, I guess. - He finally released his grip on Luna's throat. She fell to her knees, coughing. Alpha was next to her in a blink of an eye. - She is not here anymore.- Kylan continued. For some
Demetria woke up to the sound of knocking. It was mixed with the scent of delicious food, which helped her go back to her senses quickly. The girl stretched her muscles. For the first time in a long time, she felt refreshed. - Wake up, girl, we have a lot to do.- Cassius spoke from behind the door.- I will be ready in a minute. - She replied, jumping off her bed. Demetria ran to the bathroom and took a quick shower before heading to the kitchen. - That smells delicious. - The girl mumbled while her stomach grumbled. - Then sit and eat. You will need your strength today. - Cassius gave her a soft smile. This man was straightforward to like. Demetria wondered how her father could be so different from her uncle. After all, they shared the same blood. - What is the plan then? - She asked between bites of the fluffiest pancakes she had ever eaten. - Training. We need to take care of your stamina and your bond with your dragon. - The man replied. - Elena. - Demetria mumbled again.-
Kaitlyn's eyes widened with fear. For the last five years, she had been going through hell when her mate let others beat and torture her, trying to get the information he needed. Even now, her body was covered with cuts and bruises after the last interrogation, and her eye was black and swollen. Lucius was very creative when it came to making someone suffer. Kaitlyn discovered new levels of unbearable pain she would never have imagined existed. On some days, she was so broken and exhausted that all she could do was pray for a death. But no gods listened to her. She was healed after every session so her mate could have a fresh start every time. Yet, nothing was as scary as today. Kaitlyn prepared herself for another session with Lucius or Callista. Her old friend was more than eager to participate in her tortures, feeding her eyes with every drop of blood that was spilled on the floor. She could not recognize the girl who had come with her to the dragon's kingdom so many years ago. T
Kylan was getting impatient. That was his outside attitude because, inside, he felt nervous and frustrated. All trackers from the pack were looking for his ex-mate, but she vanished in thin air. There was no slightest sign that could be helpful. Kylan was not ready to admit he was responsible for that. After all, he covered most of those tracks by himself to make sure his men would find nothing. Now, he could pray to the Moon Goddess for the slightest help.Who would imagine the situation would take such a turn? This girl was always a burden, now even bigger than before. Why, from all the packs, does her mother have to choose his pack? One week passed, and Kylan or his men were nowhere close to finding the girl. The earth could as well swallow her. He did not believe in the dragon king's threat. On the contrary, he saw this man as someone who could be a valuable ally. Having someone like Lucius supporting Kylan would take him above any other Alphas on the continent. No one would dare
Kaitlyn left her mate's office, almost shaking with fear. Lucius always had a twisted mind, but this sudden change was scaring the hell out of her. For the last five years, her life looked like a scenario written by a madman: torture, healing, and the same neverending questions. It was so repetitive that Kaitlyn got used to it at some point. There were days when she was afraid that she lost her mind because of how little she cared for her life. She had hoped all this nightmare would end one day when she wouldn't be able to take it anymore. But it did not matter, for as long as Demetria was safe. Now, everything had changed. Lucius found their daughter or was close to finding her. There was no doubt something was different in his behavior. Even the torture stopped, which could only mean he did not need her answers anymore. If that was not enough, Lucius freed her from this monstrous trap that was her home for many years, provided her with new clothes, and forced her to eat together.
- Today is a big day.- Cassius announced during the breakfast. He looked really excited, and Demetria could not wait to find out what was the reason for that. During the last weeks, she was training under his watchful eye. To be honest, this was the main thing she had been doing since he found her, and sometimes the girl missed the lazy afternoons when she could only relax. But with her uncle, it was not an option. Cassius was against wasting time. He always reminded her she wasted enough during her stay in the pack. To some point, he could understand why her parents stopped her from training, but he still blamed them for not letting Demetria build her stamina, at least. The girl stopped to argue with him about that, as it was utterly pointless. Besides, she did not like to think about Felix and Shioban. The memory of her family was still too painful.- Are you going to tell me what it is going to be? Or do you want to keep me in the dark for the rest of the day? Let me tell you, this
