I gasp, my head snapping toward him. “What?”

“Bronze is my sister’s child,” he continues. “I’m his uncle.”

For a moment, my mind goes blank. His uncle?

I stare at him, trying to process what I just heard. Their bond isn’t just of an Alpha and his king. They are blood-related!

Suddenly, everything makes sense. That’s why they seemed close when they spoke to each other. I knew in my gut that something was strange.

I remember Bronze not being very fond of his mother who’s dead. She’d passed away long ago.

I look at Rowan, “I’m… sorry for your loss,” I say, keeping my voice low. “You must miss your sister.”

Rowan doesn’t say anything about that.

Then a thought strikes me, “Wait,” I say, frowning. “After Bronze’s father died, why didn’t you take him in?”

Rowan lets out a slow breath. “I sort of did,” he replies. “But Bronze hated me and the elders were against it. They said they’d take responsibility for him.”
