Christmas rolled around quickly, and despite not being at the villa so often in the past few days, my son and I attended the annual Christmas dinner.

The staff was in full swing, setting up the table and the decorations. It was the biggest event in this family every year. Everyone dressed up in lavish formal garments and showed up with their families. I’d waited for Alex to pick me up today, but he didn’t. I even called twice but both times, the call went to voicemail.

He’d been strangely absent since the night we had sex. I thought about bringing it up and making a scene, but I decided to let it slide. After all, the news of our kiss had broken and died out in the span of twenty-four hours. I had no idea the strings he had to pull to make that happen.

“Go find something to do,” I said to my son, shaking him off as soon as I walked into the house.
