When I got a call from my financial advisor, I was confused.

I was very meticulous with my finances. I never spent above what I had to, and even then, I made sure to check in with him first.

“Is there a problem?” I asked as soon as I picked up. “Did someone make a purchase you need to verify?”

It wouldn’t be the first time he’d called me to verify one of Margaret’s purchases. She had a taste for the lavish life and never quite knew when to stop. It was the reason I imposed a limit on her card. I hadn’t received a complaint since then.

“Not exactly,” he began slowly. “I thought you’d like to know that your wife just secured a property in the city.”

“When did this happen? What property?”

“I sent you an email.”

I rushed over to my laptop, my mouth falling open in shock when I took in the beautiful two-bedroom house she’d secured for herself. It was in one of the nicer parts of town, and I couldn’t help but wonder how the hell she got enough for it.
