I stood in front of the door, checking my watch.

The party was already in full swing. I could hear guests laughing inside and the smell of champagne filled the air. It was freezing outside, and my little coat did nothing to shield me from the breeze.

Grandma was big on appearances, she didn’t give a shit if I was hypothermic, as long as I looked the part of a rich socialite. My black dress was like second skin, and my heels left my toes open to the brutal cold.
