Diana's POV

I had already made it to the mansion's front door when Lucius Ashcroft suddenly called out to me.

"Diana, leave the wolf quartz bracelet behind. Lucy hasn't been sleeping well lately. It'll help her calm down."

The wolf quartz bracelet was a family heirloom left to me by my grandmother. It was also the most sacred treasure of the Blackthorn pack, capable of calming the restless wolf blood within us.

I didn't refuse him.

I knew better than anyone what happened when I said no.

The last time we were at the baseball field, I had refused to switch seats with Lucy Abbott because my face was breaking out from an allergic reaction, and I wanted to stay out of the sun.

Out of sheer spite, Lucius stranded me on the side of the road, forcing me to hike over six miles through the cold wind in the middle of nowhere.

I unclasped the bracelet and fastened it around Lucy's wrist.

"I hope your pup grows up safe and healthy," I said.

A flicker of satisfaction flashed across Lucius' eyes. "Listen, Diana Lacroix. As long as you keep your head down and take good care of Lucy and the pup, our marking ceremony will go on as scheduled. Your title as Luna is secure."

But the moment the words left his mouth, the bracelet inexplicably slipped right off Lucy's wrist.

I swore I had fastened the clasp properly.

"Ah!"

A broken piece of quartz cut Lucy's ankle, and she cried out in pain.

"Lucy!"

Lucius immediately scooped her into his arms, panic written all over his face. "What are you all standing around for? Go get the doctor, now!"

Several maids scrambled out of the room at his command. The few who remained stood by, snickering quietly at my expense.

Honestly, I felt ridiculous, too.

The last time I had an asthma attack, Lucius had been rushing to take Lucy to the movies. Even as I gasped for air and collapsed onto the floor, he had simply stepped over my body without a trace of emotion on his face.

"Cut the act," he had said. "Haven't you gotten tired of playing the sick card after all these years?"

As my consciousness faded, I had heard him instruct a maid, "Drag her into the bedroom. Don't let her germs contaminate the place. Lucy is coming over for dinner tonight."

Now, I let out a soft sigh, tightened my grip on my suitcase, and turned to leave.

"Where do you think you're going? Apologize to Lucy," Lucius demanded, his expression stone-cold as he clamped a hand around my wrist.

Before I could explain, he dragged me back with so much force that I twisted my ankle and crashed hard onto the floor.

The palms of my hands landed on the broken shards of quartz. A searing pain shot through me, and blood began to pool across my skin.

At the sight of the blood, Lucius released his grip in disgust.

"And now comes the pity party. Aren't you tired of this act? Cut the crap. Lucy is pregnant, and you just caused her to get hurt. Apologize to her right now!"

There it was again. It was always an apology.

Ever since the year I turned 18, and we were declared as fated mates, the words "I'm sorry" had become my daily mantra.

I had to apologize if the stew I made didn't suit his taste.

If I texted him out of worry when he was out drinking, interrupting his night, I had to apologize.

And if I invaded his privacy when I accidentally caught a glimpse of Lucy’s texts inviting him out, I had to apologize as well.

For years, I had walked on eggshells around him, desperately hoping that one day he would return even a fraction of the devotion I had shown him.

But the bitter reality was that I had only been fooling myself.

I gritted my teeth, forced myself to stand despite the pain in my foot, and straightened my back.

I faced Lucy and apologized. Then, I turned my hollow gaze to Lucius.

"Is that enough?"

As he stared into my vacant eyes, Lucius' chest heaved once. "Diana, I can practically see the resentment written all over your face. If you want to be my Luna, you have to learn to accept Lucy first. Do I make myself clear?"

I offered a smile and said nothing.

The truth was, I didn't want to be his Luna anymore.

The marking ceremony I had eagerly anticipated for nearly ten years no longer mattered to me now.

Diana's POVInside the treatment room, Lucius leaned back against the headboard of his hospital bed with two broken ribs and half his face swollen.Sweat kept dripping down his face from the pain, but his eyes never left the door as it harbored a desperate, almost pathological glint of hope.He assumed that now that I had been dragged to the hospital, even against my will, I would inevitably fall back into old habits. He thought I would be hovering anxiously by his bedside with red-rimmed eyes, weeping as I begged the doctors to be gentle with him.Instead, the door swung open to reveal a doctor and a nurse, there to patch up his wounds."Where is she?" Lucius asked, his voice hoarse as he tried to sit up.His eyes darted anxiously around the room. "Where's Diana?"The doctor pressed a firm hand against his shoulder without much expression. "Mr. Ashcroft, we're going to need you to stay still.""Was she hurt?" Lucius demanded. "I need to see her!""She was shaken up," the doc

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, perfectly illuminating the fresh mark on my neck.In that instant, his eyes reddened once more.I didn't tell him that the very day I found out Lucy was pregnant, I had made an international video call and accepted Richard's solemn proposal.Richard had loved me since we were pups. Even if I was never going to get the future I had waited for, someone else still deserved to receive the answer he had been waiting for."Diana, I finally see what I did wrong," Lucius pleaded. "Please, can you undo the bond with him? I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you."As I watched him grovel at my feet, so desperate and humbled, I didn't feel a flicker of emotion.I slowly stood up, looking down at the wolf I had once loved so deeply that I lost myself in the proces

Diana's POVLucius eventually found me abroad. The day of the fire, I grabbed my luggage and climbed straight into Richard Mille's waiting car outside the mansion. After that, I turned off my phone, threw away the SIM card, and did my best to erase every trace of my scent.Yet, against all odds, he still managed to find me.The moment he saw me, the bouquet of white roses slipped from his grip, scattering across the pavement. The evening sun was dipping below the horizon. I was tucked firmly against the side of a tall, striking werewolf with an effortless smile on my face—a smile Lucius had never once seen during our years together. And on the curve of my neck sat a fresh mark.Lucius stared at me as if he couldn't believe his eyes. "Diana, who is he?"Feeling my shoulders go rigid, Richard subtly tightened his arm around my waist. "You must be Lucius. Let me introduce my mate, Diana.""The two of you? No, that's impossible!" Lucius roared. "There's no way you'd let another w

Lucius' POV"Lucius, is our pup okay?" Lucy asked. "I'm so scared… I have no idea why Diana suddenly snapped and attacked me like that…"She looked up at me with red-rimmed eyes as she buried herself deeper into my chest.I sighed. "Everything is fine. The doctor said the pup is perfectly healthy and completely unaffected by yesterday's accident. Don't worry, I'll make sure Diana answers for this."I pinched the bridge of my nose. For some reason, unease stirred in my chest.I checked my phone yet again, and still nothing. The fire had been brought under control almost immediately, but the sweep of the room yielded no sign of Diana anywhere. All through the night, no matter how many texts I had sent her, she hadn't replied with so much as a single syllable.I couldn't understand it.In the past, no matter how cold I was to her, she was always at my beck and call. Diana's POVLucy blushed and gave Lucius a playful smack on the chest. He chuckled as he apologized to her, but the whole time, his attention kept drifting back to me. When he realized I wasn't angry at all, his face darkened instead."Diana, what's your problem? You've been staring at your phone since you got in the car. Is being in the same room with Lucy and me really that boring to you?"I finally looked up and glanced at him with total indifference. "Were you saying something? Sorry, I wasn't listening."I locked my phone screen, having just finished booking my flight."Let me see that!"Before I could react, Lucius snatched the phone from my hand, his expression tight with displeasure."What's the passcode?" he demanded."My birthday."It was a simple six-digit code, yet he kept typing combinations until the phone locked him out, completely unable to unlock it.Of course, he couldn't. He had never bothered to remember my birthday. When we got home, Lucius helped Lucy

Diana's POV"Don't worry. Just give me a few more days," I reassured him.I was just hanging up the phone when Lucius walked back into the room to grab his files. When he caught a glimpse of the smile lingering on my face—a smile he hadn't seen in a very long time—his brows instantly furrowed."Who were you talking to?""My aunt," I replied, brushing it off.He didn't seem to doubt me. After all, he knew that for all these years, I had only ever had eyes for him, and my contact list had dwindled to nothing but a handful of female relatives.Picking up his documents, Lucius turned on his heel, his voice icy. "Something came up at the company. I'll be back tomorrow."I didn't respond.I knew him too well. Just like countless times before, tomorrow would come and go, followed by the day after, and the day after that, and he wouldn't show.Over the next few days, my phone was repeatedly bombarded with videos of him and Lucy. He was taking her to parties and social gatherings. He
