Chapter 2

After the movie, Jax asks if I want to go anywhere else, but my wolf pacing around has already made me exhausted. I decline, and we both walk back home together.

I'm glad I came out with my sweater because the night gets chilly real fast. Even a Yeti would probably find the night uncomfortable. We huddle closer for warmth as we walk back to campus.

We walk in comfortable silence until Jax breaks it.

“You've been awfully quiet. Are you good?

“Yes, babes. Just thinking about how much schoolwork I've got to cover.”

“Okay, okay.”

“So, how's football been?”

Jax is the quarterback of the varsity team, and he's really good at it. I watch him play every weekend, but lately, I haven't been able to. The upcoming lunar cycle, school, and other things have my calendar packed.

“Oh, it's been good. I think this season would be the best yet. Though I'm about to crush my best record yet, and Coach Hayfall is being such an arse about it, even though he's a centaur…”

My mind slowly wanders back to the text from before, creating as many scenarios as it can imagine.

“Mythical realms to Vee!” Jax says while snapping his fingers in front of me.

I'm jolted back to reality and realize we're already in front of our dorm complex.

“Did you hear anything I said?” Jax asks, looking both confused and irritated.

“Yeah, babes. Coach Hayfall and training stuff.”

“Babe, that was three blocks away.”

“Sorry. I'm just not feeling really good. I think it's the coming cycle.”

“Okay, love. Need anything?”

“No… uhm. Yes.”

“What do you need, babe? You can talk to me.” He says while pulling me closer.

“I want you to stay with me tonight. Please.” I say, my voice muffled by his jacket.

“Okay, babe. That's fine.” He says with a little chuckle.

We walk into the building, thankful for the warmth inside. Some students are still up, but there are only a handful of them, and nobody looks at us. We enter the available elevator to my floor.

Inside my room, I flip the light on, take off my jacket and shoes, and Jax does the same.

“I need to shower, babe. I'll be right out.” I say while getting on my tiptoes to plant a kiss on his cheek.

I quickly grab my shower products, nightwear, and my phone, then enter the bathroom. I feel my body sag from the relief of hot water hitting my skin. My arms loosen, and I feel slightly less tense.

A few minutes into my shower routine, I hear Jax walk into the bathroom. I quickly grab my towel to cover myself up.

“Babe, what are you doing?” I whisper-shout, taking care not to wake the people in the other rooms.

“Nothing, babe. Just admiring you.” He says with a smirk.

Despite myself, I feel a blush creep up my cheeks.

“Please, just go wait outside. I'll join you soon.” I say with my head bowed, attempting to avoid his gaze.

This makes him come even closer.

He tilts my head up to look at him. We gaze into each other's eyes for what feels like an eternity. I move to get away from his touch, but he pulls me against him and then proceeds to kiss me.

I squirm out of his grip, his shirt wet from where our bodies made contact.

“Stop, Jax. You know we shouldn't be doing this. We shouldn't even be dating. It's against pack laws.”

He lets out a loud laugh.

“Oh my gods, babe. Damn the pack laws. I'm literally the next Alpha. What would they do?”

“I know all that. I just don't want to bring shame to my family. You know how traditional everybody is in our pack. I…”

I say it while looking down and avoiding his gaze.

“Hey, hey.” He says while lifting my face to look at his with both hands. I still avert my gaze.

“Forget the law. I'm the next Alpha. And no matter what happens, I will always love you.”

I finally look at him, and he looks the most sincere I've ever seen him. And that makes me give in.

“Promise?”

“I promise.”

He kisses me again, and this time I don't resist. We kiss for what feels like an eternity before I feel myself being lifted off the ground. I'm carried into the room, our lips still locked together.

He drops me onto the bed and proceeds to take off his top.

His chiseled chest and abs are all in full view. I mean, this isn't my first time seeing it, but it's my first time being in this position with him. He lowers himself above me, his eyes gazing into mine. There's an intensity behind his brown eyes that I haven't seen before.

He leans down fully and kisses me again, this time with more passion.

I can feel his hands traveling the length of my body before he cups my breasts and massages them lightly. I let out a sound that somehow urges him on but makes me feel ashamed. He continues massaging my breasts while I try really hard to stifle the noise I just made.

He stops kissing me and moves to my ear.

“Don't stop making those noises. I love to hear them.”

Then he plants his mouth back on mine.

After a while, his hands travel down between my legs. Before I can object, he puts his fingers in and starts moving them, and I feel my waist instinctively push down to let him move his fingers further.

He giggles a little, takes his hands out, and licks them. He then takes off his trousers, and I can see his hard member. He catches me looking, and I look away shyly.

“You know, you don't have to be shy, and we can stop if you want to.” He says, but his eyes look like he'd rather we didn't.

In order to prove something to him, I say, “No, I want to do this… I do.”

He smiles and then climbs into the bed.

He kisses me again for a few minutes, and I feel his hardness grinding against me. Before I can think a straight thought, I feel him push inside. This makes me yelp out in pain, and I can feel my wolf pushing to come out. I hold her back while trying to adjust to the pain.

“Are you okay?”

I nod.

He starts to move, and slowly I can feel him build momentum. I feel my mind wander off to my classes and what I could be doing tonight to catch up. I'm aware of the pleasure I'm feeling, but also not fully present in it.

After a while, I feel him spasm on top of me, pull out, and then plop down on the other side of the bed.

I get up to go rinse off, mildly aware of the pain between my legs. I bathe, dry off, and then climb back into bed, not bothering with the nightgown anymore.

He pulls me closer, and I fall into a dreamless sleep with my head buried in his chest.

I wake up the next morning, and he isn't there anymore. I assume he must have gone back to his dorm to prep for his morning runs.

I notice that I slept through my alarms and just missed my first class of the day. I grab my phone, unlock it, and there's no text from Jax.

I feel worried, but I push it to the back of my head as I reply to Briana's texts.

Briana👻: “Sup Dawg. Where are you @?”

“Did Jax murder you like in one of those mystery books? Text me ASAP! (if you're alive.)”

“Also, how'd last night go???🌝”

I close the text thread, roll out of bed, and get dressed.

I head down to the dorm service area to get something to eat, praying they at least have coffee and toast left. Luckily, it's my favorite worker that I meet, and after a few pleasantries, I place my order and wait for her to make it.

Just as I'm waiting, I see Jax and the boys walking together, all of them talking animatedly and clearly excited about something. Jax has a tiny grin on his face, the type he wears whenever the boys or anyone else is praising him for his Alpha prowess.

He looks towards the service area, and I wave at him to come over.

He looks at me, and then past me like I wasn't even there.

Weird.

I feel the knot from last night return in full force, and my body breaks out in cold sweats.

I feel a tap on my shoulder and jump.

“Here you go, love. Your order is ready.” Says the woman with a big smile.

I force a smile back.

“Thank you.”

I pay and then turn, hoping that Jax will be there, but they've all left already.

I grab my change and head upstairs.
