Hid Hands, Their Mark

I woke up calmer than I had been in weeks and didn't it.

That was the first thing. The quiet. The three natures that had been running like separate engines in the same body since the rejection ceremony were still there, still present, but they weren't fighting. They were doing something I didn't have a word for — coexisting, maybe, or just exhausted enough to stop arguing.

I lay in the safehouse room and breathed and waited for one of them to start pulling and none of them did.

My wolf was war

The skiff's aluminum hull scraped against jagged river rocks with a harsh, metallic screech that made me wince.Lucian killed the outboard motor, and the sudden quiet was deafening, broken only by the steady lap of river water against the gravel bank and the distant drip of rain off pine needles."End of the line," Lucian said, stepping out into the knee-deep black water without hesitation. He dragged the bow of the boat onto the gravel bank, tying the line off to a half-submerged hemlock root.I swung my legs over the side and dropped into the river. The mountain water was bone-chillingly cold, soaking straight through my leather boots and sending a shudder clear up my spine. My knees buckled slightly as my feet hit the slick river stones, but a heavy hand caught my elbow before I could spill into the current.I looked up. Brecken was standing over me, his hand locked around my arm. His grip was tight, almost painful, radiating a fierce, protective heat that burned right through my d

The secondary boat was a battered thirty-foot aluminum skiff, hidden under a low granite overhang where the black waves sloshed against the barnacles. It smelled of diesel, old fish scale, and rusted steel.Lucian untied the mooring ropes with quick, silent efficiency. He primed the small outboard motor, and it sputtered to life with a wet, raspy cough before settling into a low thrum. We slipped out of the cove into the open water just as the fog rolled in off the bay. The fog was thick, gray, and heavy, swallowing the towering cliffs behind us until Lucian’s estate vanished entirely.I sat near the stern on a cold metal bench, wrapping my damp jacket tighter around my shoulders. My body felt hollow, like a dry creek bed after a flash flood. The warlock bond was still humming beneath my ribs, steady and quiet, but my muscles ached from the sheer stress of the night.Soren sat two feet away, leaning against the gunwale with his eyes closed. His left hand was cradled against his stomac

The spotlight from the military launch was so bright it turned the wet rock face behind us into a sheet of glaring white. Rain stung my cheeks, tasting of sea salt, but nobody moved."Agent Merrick," the loudspeaker crackled again. The voice was smooth, gray, and completely without emotion. "You have thirty seconds to clear the ledge. The target steps forward alone."Cade didn't lower his pistol. He stood right at the slippery edge of the cliff, his tactical boots braced against the dark granite. The wind whipped his wet jacket against his ribs."Commander Vance," Cade called out, his voice cutting clean through the roar of the surf below. "You're out of your jurisdiction."A figure stepped up to the boat's bow, leaning against the metal railing. He wore a heavy dark trench coat, his gray hair cropped close to his head. Even through the blinding glare, I could see the cold, professional posture of a man who spent his whole life managing government hunter teams."Jurisdiction doesn't e

The purple light from the relic pulse thrummed through the room, making the air taste like copper. On the floor, Soren gasped, his body locking up as the anchor link dragged his magic inward. Brecken was on his knees three feet away, his arms shaking violently as he tried to force his wolf forward against the suppression field. Every time his muscles surged, I felt a sharp, tearing pressure directly behind my sternum."Don't move, Brecken!" I screamed, my voice raw as I clawed at the concrete floor. "It's pulling through me! Stop!"Brecken froze. His eyes were wide, gold veins bleeding into the whites as he forced his body to go still. He stayed crouched on the floor, his breathing ragged, his fists digging into the polished floor until his nails cracked.Marcus stepped further into the hall, flanked by the two armored Tribunal enforcers. He tossed the old Holt iron key tag onto the floor near Brecken's knee."Smart girl," Marcus said, looking down at me with that same easy, arrogant

  • Rejected Tribrid Wolf: Her Four Alphas' Curse   The Inside Job

Midnight came without a sound from the sea. Inside the main hall, the only light came from the low green status LEDs on the security console. Outside, three miles of dark water smashed against the base of the granite cliff, but behind the reinforced storm shutters, you could only hear a muffled, heavy thud every few seconds.Brecken sat on a low wooden bench near the door, a broad hunting knife held in his right hand. He was dragging an whetstone down the edge of the steel, over and over, with a slow, deliberate scrape that filled the quiet room. He hadn't said a word since the council decree popped up on the monitor. He didn't need to. His wolf was sitting right under his skin, making his breathing heavy and tight.Soren was leaning against the stone fireplace, his bandaged left hand tucked into his jacket pocket. He looked exhausted, the dark circles under his eyes standing out against his pale skin, but he kept his head turned toward the hallway, listening to the house."The secon

  • Rejected Tribrid Wolf: Her Four Alphas' Curse   The Coastal Estate

The salt spray had dried stiff on my skin by the time the boat engines finally cut out.We had pulled into a dark, narrow cove carved right into the side of a sheer granite cliff. High above us, jutting out over the crashing black water, sat Lucian’s coastal estate. It didn't look like a home. It looked like a fortress built out of dark iron, slate, and reinforced glass, completely hidden from the main coastal highway by miles of dense pine forest.Lucian killed the auxiliary lights and led us up a steep, winding flight of stone steps cut directly into the rock face.My legs felt like lead. Every step was a battle against my own body. The warlock bond was still humming under my ribs, a strange, steady weight that kept my witch blood from spilling over, but the sheer physical exhaustion of the night was catching up to me.Brecken stayed right at my back the whole way up the cliff. He didn't offer a hand, and I didn't ask for one, but his body heat was radiating off him like an open ove

I lay there in the big bed staring at the ceiling for a long time after Brecken left. The t-shirt he gave me smelled like him. Pine and storm and something warm that made my stomach feel weird. I pulled the blanket up higher and tried to ignore it. My body still felt weak. Like I had run a maratho
