Selina’s POV

It's been two nights.

And it's been horrible so far.

The walls of my room had began to suffocate me, memories played too loudly, and the silence was starting to to feel like punishment.

I decided to step out and take a quick stroll to get my head straight.

Everything had changed so quickly, and for the worse.

Because now Malik wasn’t speaking to me.

He was avoiding me, I had passed him three times in the past two days, and every time, he turned the other way. Like I was poison.

He hadn’t asked how I was coping.

He hadn’t even asked if I needed anything.

I pressed my fingers to my temple and sighed. I was tired of crying, tired of pretending I was okay.

As I turned toward the secluded parts of the pack, where the training ground was located, it was usually silent and I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Malik, even If it's from afar, but I caught a flicker of movement through the trees instead, bright led lights and the sharp clanking of metal. My brows furrowed. Why does

Eva's POV.I tried to hold control my breathing as I walked alongside Aragorn, Lady Tory, Nuela, and Elder Magnus, the people I despise the most, it was taking everything in me to keep my look straight and not make an irritated face, my irritation had grown after what I have heard about the head chef. I followed silently as we approached the path that led down toward the estate’s wide gates, where a carriage waited patiently for us.I kept my eyes lowered, hands folded in front of me as though I was merely a submissive follower among them, but in truth my mind was running wild. Every step I took felt heavy. This meeting outside the border would certainly hold more information, allies, and truths that I could use, but I couldn’t afford to follow them this time. Not when I had plans that could only be executed if I stayed behind.I had to act. And act well.Just as we drew closer to the carriage, I let my foot deliberately twist against the floor , my body leaned forward with just the

Eva's POV. The further I walked, the heavier my chest became, my heart pounded so loudly that I feared it would betray me. Each step I took behind Selene and Aragorn, I made certain it was careful. My breath came in slow streams through parted lips, my ears straining for every creak of the floor, every echo of a footstep.I wasn’t supposed to be here. If anyone knew what I was doing, then everything I had been building could come crashing down. They walked quickly, Aragorn leading with powerfully long strides, and Selene scurrying after him like a shadow that had no choice but to follow. I kept my distance but never let them slip out of my sight. Each turn they made through the estate’s long corridors twisted me deeper into places I had never been before. The atmosphere had grown colder, as though I were being led into the underbelly of the estate where secrets festered. Finally, they stopped at a door. I froze behind a wide pillar, pressing my body flat against the wall, peering jus

Eva's POV.I lingered in the shadow of the kitchen corridor, my back lightly pressed against the cold stone wall as I tried to steady my breathing. My palms were beginning to get sweaty, and my heart an uneven drum inside my chest, it was as a result of the plan brewing inside me, a risky one it is, but I have to speak to Selene. My pulse quickened whenever I thought of the consequences of her ratting me out to Aragorn, because what if her loyalty lies heavily with him since he has leverage over her? But everytime I felt that way, I reminded myself of the reason I was here: Nicklaus, our marriage, our peace, how do I achieve that without taking risks to that effect? Marisol had signaled me earlier, a quick flick of her eyes as she carried water jugs past my room. It was her subtle way of saying now’s the time. She had seen something, and I trusted her judgment. That was why I found myself here, pretending to be nothing more than a bored guest hovering around the kitchen door.I adju

Eva's POV.I adjusted my robe my shoulders, my eyes darting left and right as I moved down the shadowed passageway leading toward the estate’s outer gate. I pulled my cloak tighter, steadying my breath as I reached the gate, looking around again to make no one was watching from any corner.Thankfully, it was the gate guard, Hayden, the same one I had struck a deal with that was at the gate post, I have been more careful about coming to see him after I noticed there were others at the post too, and they all hustled between shifts; and I haven't spoken to any of them yet, none has ticked my fancy for loyalty. He sat hunched on the small wooden stool by the post. “Evening, Hayden,” I greeted in a low voice and he straightened, though not without looking startled first.“Lady Eva,” he called sternly as he panted, although respectfully. “I didn’t hear your steps, you scared me." I allowed flashed him a warm smile. "I'm sorry about that, I was being careful not to raise my voice too loud

Eva's POV.I was careful not to step too hard on the floor to make any noise as I walked along the passageway, every corner of this house had ears; I had learned that lesson early.I was halfway down the corridor when a figure slipped out from the shadows, startling me enough to draw my hand toward the dagger I kept beneath my sleeve. “My lady!” I heard a familiar voice whisper quietly. It was Marisol, the maid I had struck a deal with days ago, she looked around frantically before closing the distance between us, her hand clutching my sleeve as though her life depended on it.My heart pounded at her desperation. “What are you doing lurking like this?” I murmured sharply, glancing up and down the passage.“My lady, I... I need to tell you something,” she stammered, her voice trembling. “Something important.”I stilled her with a hand. “Not here. Do you want the walls themselves to carry your words to Aragorn’s ears? Come.”Without waiting for her response, I guided her quickly down t

  • Rejected and Banished; The kids are his.   Chapter two hundred and twenty one.

Eva's POV.I wasn’t sure what pulled me outside that afternoon, instinct, perhaps, or the faint voice that had been whispering at the back of my mind since my encounter with the house maid... Pay attention to the overlooked, the servants, the guards, they see everything their masters try to hide. The estate was unnervingly quiet, though I had learned that quiet in this place was not peace. It meant chaos and secrets flying through quietly. My feet carried me toward the outer gate almost without thought, and that’s where I saw the gate guard slumped on the wooden chair like a man who had given up on life. His spear leaned lazily against the wall close to him as though it was more burden to him than being his protecting weapon. He didn’t even notice me until I cleared my throat deliberately. “Everything alright?”He flinched so hard I nearly laughed. His head snapped up, eyes wide, like someone caught stealing. “M-my lady!” He scrambled upright, fumbling to bow. “Forgive me, I… I didn’t
