Selah's POV

I walked through the dense forest, looking around warily at the shifting shadows for fear that someone would see me.

As a wolf orphan at the very bottom of the pack hierarchy, being caught out here would mean trouble. But the risk was always worth it. For three years, ever since I turned eighteen, I had been meeting my fated mate, Ashen Draven, in secret at an abandoned thatch house at the edge of the eastern woods. He was the pack's golden boy, the rumored future leader, and a royal. A girl like me didn't belong in his world, yet he always told me I was the only one in his life. I believed him completely.

I smiled sheepishly to myself as I walked on. A note had appeared under my door yesterday night, written in his handwriting: MEET ME AT THE HOUSE TONIGHT.

I knew exactly what it meant. After three years of hiding in the dark, he was finally going to mark me as his mate and claim me before the entire pack. It was everything I had been looking forward to, the moment that would change my life forever.

Before long, the dilapidated thatch house appeared through the thick trees. I quickened my steps, my heart filled with anticipation.

As I moved closer, the wooden door opened, and Ashen himself stepped outside into the moonlight.

I smiled at him instantly, teasing him. "Did you really want to see me so badly?"

He didn't say anything. He just stood there, his face half-hidden in the shadows. Then he began to walk toward me slowly, his boots crushing the dry leaves under his feet. It was only when he was a few feet away from me that I saw his face.

The loving look he usually gave me was completely gone. His eyes were full of such hatred that it made my heart sink.

"I, Ashen Draven," he called out in a blank voice, "reject you, Selah, as my mate."

"What?" The smile faded from my face instantly. A sudden, violent agony ripped through my soul as our mate bond shattered into a million pieces. The pain was so intense, so suffocating, that my legs instantly gave out. I collapsed onto the dirty floor of the clearing, right outside the place I trusted most in the world.

"Ashen," I gasped. "Why? Please, tell me why. What did I do wrong?"

He looked down at me, but his silver eyes remained blank. He didn't offer a hand to help me up. He didn't show a single ounce of mercy.

"You need to die," Ashen muttered. "I'm sorry. It has to be this way."

That was when I noticed the glint of a dagger in his hand. Before I could even attempt to scramble backward, he lunged forward, towering over me. And then he plunged the dagger straight into my heart.

The pain was even worse than the mate bond shattering. It stole the last bit of air from my lungs. Blood began to spread on my chest, soaking into my dress and the cold earth. I stared up helplessly, but my mate did not look away as the life drained out of me.

"Ashen..." I whispered, the name slipping from my lips as a final, broken breath. Then my heart stopped forever.

  • Rejected by My Mate, Marked by his Twin   First Bread

Selah's POVAsher quickly walked out of the room, leaving the door to swing shut behind him.I was stuck in one place, paralyzed by fear, staring at the spot where he had disappeared. My fingers were still wrapped around the edge of the doorframe, and my mind was in such a tumble that I could barely think straight. He had stood right in front of me and told me he would be back for me. And now he was gone."Enjoying yourself?"The voice behind me made me flinch. When I turned around, Lord Garrick was standing a few feet away from me. He raised one eyebrow. "That was quite a reaction. I didn't realize I was so frightening." There was a dry edge to his voice, almost sarcastic.I quickly shook my head."No?" he asked. "Then perhaps you can explain why you looked as though you had just seen a ghost."I wished to all the heavens that I could reply him, but my voice remainder stubborn as an old ox.Lord Garrick's eyes narrowed. "And why were you listening to my private conversation?"The qu

  • Rejected by My Mate, Marked by his Twin   Little Oracle

Selah's POVLord Garrick told me to stay indoors, and I fully intended to. But this new body was much sharper than my old one. As I laid down on the large bed, my senses were going haywire. I couldn't understand why I was hearing hushed conversations happening several rooms away through the thick stone, or how I could smell the morning woodsmoke being lit in the distant kitchens. I could feel the ancient magic woven directly into the castle walls. And right now, my stomach was making its presence known.I was starving. I had slept straight through whatever meals had come and went during the day, and no one had thought to bring me food. Not even Vera.I would just find the kitchen, grab a piece of bread, and run straight back to my room before Lord Garrick noticed. Pushing the blankets aside, I stepped out into the corridor, following the scent of roasting meat and fresh bread down the long hallway. But halfway down the corridor, I stopped. Underneath the smell of food, I heard someth

  • Rejected by My Mate, Marked by his Twin   The Umbra Pact

Garrick's POVI really wasn't looking forward to the council meetings, but I knew that I had to go. Ronan, my second in command, was keeping stride beside me as we walked towards the meeting room. I could tell from his nervous energy that he had been waiting to corner me ever since I returned from the market."Why did you buy the Oracle?" Ronan asked, his voice low so it wouldn't carry to the guards stationed along the walls. "You fool, Garrick. You could have done anything else!"I did not answer him, even though I perfectly understood his panic. I kept my eyes fixed on the oak doors of the council room at the end of the hall. The mate bond inside me was still thrumming, but nobody else needed to know that I had bonded with the Oracle.Ronan sighed, adjusting the leather strap of his armor. "An Oracle pulled from the Blood Moon Market is not a small thing, Garrick. The other factions have noticed it. You know there will be consequences for this."I kept walking in silence. I didn't o

  • Rejected by My Mate, Marked by his Twin   Unsettling feeling

Selah's POVHours later, I woke up to the unsettling feeling of someone being in the room with me.My eyes snapped open, and I instinctively pulled the thick blankets up to my chin. The morning light was illuminating a figure standing right at the foot of my bed.It was a tall and gangly girl with beautiful, thick black hair that fell past her shoulders. She had protuberant, owl-like eyes that stared down at me without blinking."Oh, good, you're finally awake," the girl's voice was much too loud for me. She didn't look dangerous, but after everything I had been through, everyone felt like a threat. "My name is Vera. I am Lord Garrick's niece. I'm seventeen, and he's sent me to stay with you."I sat up slowly, keeping the blanket pressed against my front and watching her warily. I couldn't greet her, or tell her to leave. But my silent stare didn't seem to bother her at all.Vera walked over to the side of the bed, leaning against the wooden post. She tilted her head and fixed her lar

Selah's POV"Fifty thousand gold coins for the girl, I'll add an extra ten thousand for your time," the dark-haired stranger said. Then he tossed a clinking leather pouch onto the wooden table in front of the auction block.I just knelt there on the ground and watched everything unfold. I still could not get over the new mate bond and what it could mean, all I could do was stare at this man who looked so much like my murderer, with bitterness in my mouth."See to it that the girl is washed and fed before she is brought to my carriage," the man ordered. "She is very filthy.""Washed and fed?" The warden snorted and wiped his nose with the back of his dirty sleeve. "Lord Garrick, we don't wash and feed our merchandise here. You bought the bitch as she is. If you want her clean, do it yourself."Lord Garrick's expression did not change, and neither did he argue. He simply gave a brief nod, turning on his heel to leave the platform.Seeing my new owner walk away, I tried to stand to my fe

  • Rejected by My Mate, Marked by his Twin   The Second Bond

Selah's POVI died three days ago. I knew I should be rotting in a grave somewhere in the eastern woods. But instead, I woke up in a cage. The metal bars pressed against my back, and my mind was full of the memory of Ashen's final words: You need to die. I'm sorry.Remembering those words made me scramble backward, and my hands hit a small shard of broken glass on the floor of the cage. I picked it up, my fingers trembling, and caught my own eyes in the dim light. The face staring back at me wasn't mine.I gasped... or at least, I tried to. But nothing came out of my mouth either. I gripped my throat, my fingers digging into my skin. I tried to scream, cry, or make any sound at all, but my vocal cords felt shredded. Strands of long, silver-white hair fell over my shoulders. Piercing pale grey eyes looked back at me from a stranger's face. That wasn't my hair.... those weren't my eyes. What had happened to me?Before I could even begin to process the horror of my new body and my gone v
