No chains this time.

The guard who comes for me in the morning doesn't bind my wrists at all, which feels stranger than almost anything else that's happened since I left Silvermoon. He just holds the door open and waits.

"Where am I going?"

"Healer's wing. You're to help there for now." He says it like it's already old news to him, like orders from the King about a wolfless stray get handed down and forgotten within the hour. "Greta, the palace head healer will show you the rest."

  • Rejected by my Alpha, Claimed by the King   Chapter 44: The Blood of the Ancients

Luna’s POVThe next two days are a blur of silk, silver, and secrets. The palace is awake before the sun. Everywhere I turn, there are servants rushing with armfuls of linens, guards doubling their patrols, and the distant sound of carriages arriving. The entire kingdom is pouring into Ashworth Estate. But the loudest thing in the castle is inside my own head.My senses are on fire. I can hear the heartbeat of the maid who brings my breakfast. I can smell the metallic tang of the polish they use on the silverware, the fresh ink on Soren's documents, and the rain that is still an hour away. You are waking up, the voice whispers. She speaks more often now. Not in full sentences. Just a word here, a pulse of feeling there. But I am no longer surprised by her. I am starting to rely on her.The morning before the coronation, Briar finds me in the library.I’m hiding between the towering shelves, trying to escape the noise, but Briar knows this palace better than anyone. She drops into the

  • Rejected by my Alpha, Claimed by the King    Chapter 43: A New Dawn

Luna's POVThe next day,I open my eyes lazily, adjusting my eyes to the surroundings. I'm in Kane's room. (Nothing happened guys, dont panic...)He’s not beside me. The sheets are cold, but there is a tray of breakfast waiting on the nightstand and a fresh dress folded over the armchair. A deep, burgundy red.I sit up carefully, wincing as the blankets fall away. My neck throbs, a dull, aching pulse that radiates down to my shoulders. The claiming bite had been intense, a shock of magic and pain that had left my muscles feeling like I'd run for miles. When I reach up to touch it, the skin is sensitive and warm. And I feel that presence in my head.It wasn't purring or anything. Just... there. Like it was sleeping. It feels like a second heart, beating in rhythm with my own.I get out of bed, wash my face, and pull on the dress. It fits perfectly, clinging to my waist and falling in soft, heavy folds around my legs. When I step out into the hallway, I realize the world has shifted.T

  • Rejected by my Alpha, Claimed by the King   Chapter 42: Claimed

Luna’s POVFor a heartbeat, Kane doesn’t move.He just stares at me, his eyes entirely silver now. The air in the drawing room shifts, growing heavy, charged with something that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.Yes, that quiet warmth in my chest whispers. Ours. I'm surprised at it but I am too distracted to think about it right now.Kane’s hand slides from my hair to the back of my neck, his grip firm. Not painful. Gently....how he usually is."You have no idea what you're asking for," he says, his voice a low, rough scrape of sound."I know exactly what I'm asking for," I reply, my voice steadier than I feel. I reply, my response as solid as my tone.He doesn't give me time to finish. He pulls me forward, stepping into my space until my back hits the wall beside the window. The cold stone presses through my dress, but I don't care. I can't care. Not when his body cages me in, his chest pressing against mine, his breath warm against my lips.He leans down, his nose brush

  • Rejected by my Alpha, Claimed by the King   Chapter 41: In a Week's Time

Luna's POVThe drawing room is empty when I arrive. No guards inside. No servants. Just Kane, standing by the tall windows with his back to me, one hand resting on the frame. The late afternoon light catches the silver in his hair. He doesn't turn around when the door closes, but I know he heard me. He hears everything."You asked for me," I say."Yes, I did."He turns, then. His face is unreadable, but his eyes are dark today. The silver is dim, resting just beneath the surface."Sit down," he says, gesturing to the chairs near the cold hearth."I'm fine standing.""Luna." Just my name. A quiet warning. Or maybe a plea. "Sit."I sit. Not because he commanded it. But because my legs are still tired. He crosses the room and takes the chair opposite mine. He doesn't lean back, doesn't cross his leg the way he usually does. He sits forward, elbows on his knees, hands clasped together. He looks like a man about to do something he's been putting off."In light of recent events and a lot of

  • Rejected by my Alpha, Claimed by the King   Chapter 40: The Wolf in the Dark

Luna's POVI wake before the sun. It's not on purpose. My body just does it now. It had reverted back to it's usual schedule as when I was still on Silvermoon pack. The light in Kane's room is grey and thin. The fire has burned low. And for a few minutes I just lie there, staring at the ceiling, letting the memory of yesterday settle back into my bones. It was remaining less than three days.I turn my head. The other side of the bed is empty. The blankets are smooth. He didn't come back last night.Good. I don't know what I would have done if he had.I get up carefully and I find my shoes and the plain grey dress someone left on the chair for me. It seemed the crack in the wall hadn't been fixed yet. I don't bother looking at it, as I didn't want to be reminded of the the past event.I dress quickly, braid my hair back, and slip out into the corridor before the maids come to fetch me.The palace is already awake. That's the first thing I notice. Servants move through the hallways carr

  • Rejected by my Alpha, Claimed by the King   Chapter 39: Three Days

Luna's POVNeither of us moves.Kane stands in the doorway with his hand still on the frame, and I sit in the middle of his bed with the blankets pulled up to my chest, and the crack in the wall sits between us like a third person in the room.He looks at it again. Then at me."How are you feeling?" he asks. It's such a small question, and he asks it so evenly, that I don't know what to answer. How am I feeling. Like I almost met with death and then something inside me answered a call. Like my entire world has shifted an inch to the left and I'm the only one who noticed."I'm fine," I say.He raises a brow. He looks like he doesn't believe me. "You threw a man twice your size across the room last night," he says. "Without touching him. You damaged the poor wall behind with the force of it. And you're fine?""I said I'm fine.""You're lying."I meet his eyes. The silver in them is dimmer this morning. Not the bright, sharp glint I've seen when he's angry. But it's still there, still r
