19. Will Be Your Sister-In-Law

April's POV

The next morning, I was up quite late. The sun was high in the sky, and when I looked at my bedside clock, it was almost 8:00 a.m.

My door was as good as new, and in the far corner of my room, I had neatly packed Jacob's tools, nails and screws.

It was a school day, and I couldn't stay in bed forever. I sighed. Deep down, I wished I could disappear into my covers and be hidden from the world for all eternity.

Life for me was now miserable, and there was nothing good to expect any morning.

I got out of the bathroom and rummaged through my closet for something decent to wear to school. I finally settled for some dark jeans and a plain shirt. The last thing I needed was to draw attention to myself. I wanted to stay hidden in plain sight.

I knew that there was no breakfast waiting for me, so I wasn't even bothered to head to the dining table. As I tried to sneak out of the front door, an airy and mocking voice called out to me.

My eyes grew wider. No, it couldn't be.
