I was sat atop the queen sized bed, the maroon colored duvet around me looking like dry blood against my dirty and dust stained dress. From the eyes of a painter or photographer, I looked like I was sitting in my own blood, just waiting to pass out any moment. Peeping from the lacy covers that bordered the bed, I found a vanity bigger than my mum's. Next to it was an even bigger mirror. I stole a quick glance and I felt repulsed. My blonde hair was a tangled mess, dirty streaks giving me new highlights I didn't ask for.
By my right was a bedside table, a walk in wardrobe and a beautiful bookshelf, all in the same set.
"Stop admiring anything, you moron." I facepalmed myself hard. I pressed my palm against my nose and only when I felt pain, did I stop. "You're trapped in here and you're gawking like a three year old on Christmas Eve."
After Noah had walked out on me, the previous day, leaving me all alone in the room, I did nothing. There was nothing I could do. You know that feeling when you don't want to give up but your body has already made that decision for you? Yeah, that's how I felt. So I didn't move, I couldn't move until the double doors creaked open, catching my attention.
Not long after, some maidens walked in brandishing trays that beared plates of different sizes and shapes. The aroma in food changed immediately and I felt like I was in food heaven. My stomach of course, didn't hesitate to embarrass me. It gave out a loud growl and I almost thought it was my wolf. Or maybe it was the other way around.
Sensing my awkwardness or maybe on instruction, the maids left me alone almost Instantly to devour the meal. And devour did I do. Now….
Three short raps on the door paused my little trip down memory lane.
" Come in." Two maids different from the ones that had delivered my food walked in, bowing simultaneously. " Good evening, my Queen."
That endearment made me cringe. I twisted my face and they saw it too, their hands awkwardly moving to their backs.
"I hope you enjoyed your meal?" One of them spoke up. She was a brunette with not many features. Just ponytail hair with red lipstick and a bare face to follow. " Would you be needing anything else?"
"No, thank you." I shook my head. " I'm fine."
"Well then, it's time for this." Her partner spoke up, brandishing a garment bag I didn't even know they were carrying. " Your wardrobe hasn't been stocked yet because we were only made aware of your um, .. arrival only a few moments ago so….. " she trailed off muttering the last bits under her breath.
"Thank you, but I don't think that would be necessary."
"But it is. " The dress was already in her hands now. It was a silk dress that seemed to be cut out from the finest of materials. " Just imagine how gorgeous you'd look in this. "
I couldn't imagine. I didn't want to because I hated dresses.
"I'm fine." I insisted. " Why don't you both have it?"
Their faces paled immediately. The first one spoke up and I winced at the title she addressed me with.
"My Queen, we can't do that." She paused and her partner continued. " The Alpha gave specific orders that…."
"What?" I cut them off. Just mentioning the Alpha was enough to escalate things from zero to hundred. " What did you say? What did you want to say about the Alpha?"
"Well, he ordered that we get you into this dress." Her voice was tiny this time, fear evident in her voice. If it was for me or Noah, I had no idea. " He specifically instructed us to make you wear it."
"Then in that case, you can tell him to go to hell."
Silence. They exchanged looks amongst each other, their eyes bulging in fear.
"My Queen, please.." the first maid pleaded, getting on her knees immediately. With the impact between her knees and the wooden floor, I thought she'd be yelling by now. " Please don't do this. He'll have our heads if you do."
"I'm not changing my decision." I stood my ground. " Take that dress back to where you got it."
" But please my Queen. Just imagine how pretty you'd look. The Alpha wouldn't be able to take his eyes off of you."
"What?" It came out low. Any lower and they might not have heard me. " What did you just.. You know what? Get out."
"My Queen, please."
"I said get out!" They weren't listening. Instead they knelt there, pleading and pleading. I gazed around till my eyes landed on a vase by the window. I strolled to it, picked it up and smashed it on the ground. The pieces scattered, causing the maids to flinch backwards. " Now, go and tell your Alpha thar I'm not interested in him dolling me up."
"But please…"
"I'm going to break another one." I threatened but they took it as any empty as no one made a move to leave. I gazed around again and found another vase at the far end.
The moon goddess was definitely on my side.
I picked it up and smashed it to the ground with even more force than rge previous one. The sound echoed in the hallway and I prayed it would interrupt Noah wherever it was.
"We need the Alpha." The first maid whispered to her partner. I could see the fear etched into their faces but at this point they didn't have a choice anymore. " Go. Find him."
With that, she scurried away, leaving me and the first maid all alone.
"My Queen, please reconsider your decision." She was groveling, her face streaked with tears." Please…"
"I'm going to drive these pieces into your head if you ask that of me again." I knocked down something again, it's clang filling the room. " Don't you ever…"
"What is going on in here?" Noah's voice boomed in the room, cutting me off. His eyes surveyed the room, from the maid to me then to the broked ceramic pieces littering the floor. " What have you done?"
"It's what she does." A second voice came. It didn't take much work to guess who it belonged to. " Spread trouble everywhere."
" Your highness." The first maid was on her feet, her head bowed to Noah. " She refused to put on the dress like instructed. We tried to plead with her but she was adamant."
Something passed between Noah and I as we stared each other down, communicating through our eyes. As usual, he gave no emotion ass he scrutinized me, trying to peel the Insides of my mind as if it were an onion..
"Leave." He let out. " All of you. I'd like to talk to my wife. In private."
"Leave." Noah's voice was the only one in the room. " All of you. I'd like to talk to my wife. In private." I thought I was dreaming. I'd been staring at Noah for a while so maybe I was imagining things. Maybe if I blinked or broke an arm, everything would go back to normal. Maybe. "Can you not hear me?" The Alpha's boom caused me to snap out of my thoughts. I shuddered as a chill ran down my spine. " I said leave!" The maids scurried out first, their footsteps like mice running from their biggest predator, the cat, in the hallway. I glanced quickly at the bed and cursed inside when I saw the silk dress lying on the bed, it's beauty taunting me. Why didn't they take it along? Noah, like a pest, followed my gaze to the dress too. His eyes darted back and forth between us before a smug smile rested on his lips. "You can't be serious." Eric broke our staring contest. He always seemed to know the right time to butt into our business. " Noah, you're joking, right?" "You're still her
He stopped next to the bed, and picked up the dress in one swift motion. As I watched him pick up the dress, my heart started racing. I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions: anger, confusion, and a strange attraction. He delicately twirled a piece of the fabric on his fingers and I saw it sparkle a bit. "This would have looked really good on you, you know," he said, breaking my chain of thoughts again. My anger flared up. "Is that why you sent your maids to play dress up with me? For your pleasure?" I seethed, clenching my fists. "Not necessarily," he replied, taking a step towards me. "I just wanted to get you in a clean set of clothes. You looking aesthetically pleasing to the eyes would just be an added bonus." I was so angry that I couldn't control myself. "Pervert," I let out through clenched teeth. "Not only are you proud, you're also a fucking pervert!" As he took a step towards me, I instinctively stepped back. He continued coming closer until my back came in contact w
A gentle breeze blew by, sending leaves rustling my way. I shut my eyes tighter as I padded the bed, frantically searching for the duvet I'd slept in last night. But instead of the soft warmth of the quality cotton material, my hand felt a hard surface, prickly prickles poking through my skin. I jerked up immediately and what I saw wasn't what I expected. Trees bloomed all around me, like it was spring. Songbirds flew around, their rhythmic chirps filling my ears. Flowers of different colors and types spread about with lush green hedges in between. And the sun was as bright as ever, the round celestial body glowing and giving warmth to my skin. Where was I? Glancing around my immediate surroundings, I surveyed what was supposed to be my bed. My fancy queen sized bed with lacy covers was no longer where I left it last night. Instead, I was sprawled on top of a flower bed. A rose bush to be exact. It's petals, I'd probably used as a cover and it's thorns were what pricked
Who.. who are you?" I stammered. My teeth were chattering as I raised a finger at him. " Who the hell are you?!" "I'm sorry I frightened you." He really did look sorry. " I didn't mean to. We'd been knocking at your door with no response, so I let myself in." "You haven't answered my question." I didn't want to hear any excuses. I just wanted to know who the fuck he was. " I'm not going to ask you again." "I'm Gustav." He stood straight, something glinting on his wrist. It was a gold bracelet. Almost every guard in the palace had one. I may or may not have snuck a glance at all of them a couple of times " Your personal bodyguard and royal escort." As I looked at Gustav, my heartbeat began to slow down. I could see the concern in his eyes, and I realized that my reaction to his presence was a bit extreme. I felt a bit embarrassed, and I hoped that he would not judge me for it. I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself. "Gustav," I repeated his name in a softer tone. "I'm sor
"Gustav?" I echoed, narrowing my eyes at him. "I've never heard of you before. What are you doing in my room?" "I'm one of your personal guards, your majesty." He replied, still looking apologetic. "I'm supposed to be on duty right outside your door." "I see." I muttered, feeling a little embarrassed at my outburst. "I'm sorry for shouting at you. It's just that I had a bad dream and I'm a little disoriented." "It's alright, your highness." Gustav reassured me. "Is there anything I can do to assist you?" I shook my head, still feeling a little shaky. "No, thank you. I think I just need some time to gather my thoughts." "Very well." Gustav nodded, before turning to leave the room. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to call me." As soon as he was gone, I let out a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. What was that dream about? And why did it feel so real? I got out of bed and walked over to the window, pulling back the curtains to let in some sunlight. Outside, I could
I sighed deeply, trying to ignore the infuriatingly smug expression on Noah's face. It wasn't the first time he had insulted me with his so-called compliments. I knew he didn't really mean them, but that didn't make them any less irritating. "I wish you wouldn't call me that," I replied, keeping my tone as neutral as possible. "You know I don't like it." Noah chuckled, a sound that grated on my nerves. "What, 'your highness'?" he said. "But you are my mate, my queen. Don't you think you deserve a little respect?" I rolled my eyes. He was mocking me and it was very intent. I hated it when he was all smug. He was too arrogant, and oh goddess, i hated him so much. I hated seeing his handsome face, As I looked at him, I couldn't help but notice the way his dark hair was slicked back, revealing the sharp angles of his face. His skin was bronzed and seemed to glow in the light, as if he had just returned from a tropical vacation. His tall frame towered over me, and I couldn't help but
The sudden darkness that ruled the night had cleared off but my mind was still very stormy. A cold breeze whipped through the night, sending a shiver down my spine. I was by my window in my room, that overlooked a fair share of the kingdom, one of the many places that reminded me of my current predicament. I couldn't help but wonder how I had ended up in this situation, mated to someone I didn't even like. And then, like a bad omen, I heard the sound of footsteps coming towards my room. I already knew who it was, and my heart sank as the door opened to reveal him standing there. "Bailey," he said with a hint of annoyance in his voice, "You always manage to be in my space.” That voice that i hated so much. That same voice that brought sparks to my chest. As much as i hated it. I turned to face him, taking in his appearance once again. His dark hair was still slicked back, and his tan skin looked even more pronounced in the moonlight. He looked as arrogant as ever, and I could fee
As I walked over to my vanity, I caught my reflection in the mirror. My eyes were red and puffy from crying, but I refused to let my sadness show on the outside. I straightened my posture and looked at myself with determination. I knew that I needed to start taking action if I wanted to change my situation. I needed to find a way to break the bond between Noah and me, to be free from this loveless marriage. But how? the sky, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of sadness wash over me. Being mated to Noah was not what I wanted for myself. I missed my family, my friends, and the life I had before this forced union. My mind drifted to Nita, my best friend since childhood. She would always be there for me, no matter what. I wished she was here with me now, to offer some comfort and support. But I knew that wasn't possible. I was alone in this, with no one to turn to but myself. As I thought about my situation, a wave of determination swept over me. I couldn't just accept my fate a
