CHAPTER 4

MEADOW POV

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Dennis yelled still on the ground.

“I mean it Dennis, stay down.” I warned, ready to activate whatever I did before when I killed him.

“You want to protect him? You should protect yourself. He's the fucking king, hybrid.”

A rush of wind slammed into me as I instinctively closed my eyes.

“I would be careful what you say next .” He said warningly as I peeled my eyes open and he was right there.

“Step away from my prize blood, Daxon. It's a pity such a pretty face is crazy.”

I heard Conri, well, Lucifer say calmly like he wasn't bothered. I turned around still shocked by his sudden behavior and character.

What is wrong with mate?

I don't know but we'll help him, that's why he has us.

“For disrespecting me, Elexa and my trusted advisor, wow that's a lot on your first day. I would have loved to whip you with the nail whip and watch blood gush out of your open wound,” he said, void of any emotion.

I gulped because for some reason, I was sure he would do that.

“But then, it would be a waste of your precious blood.” His face was so stern that I was worried he had never laughed ever since these vampires brainwashed him, “Guards!”

His voice came out strong and loud, if it were a different case, I would have loved to rest my head on his chest and hear it rumble as he spoke.

Guards?

“Throw her to the dungeons, where she'll pray to die but not die.” He said with a grin evil enough to send me to help alive.

“No, no, Conri.” I moved about to hold his hand when Elexa caught it.

“Next time you touch Lucifer, I'll break your arm.” She said as she pushed me so hard that I thought Conri would reach for me but he stood there emotionless as I fell on two hands.

I turned my head to see it was the guards, NO.

“Make sure it's as cold as ice.”

“Conri, you can do this to me. Listen to me this isn't you….”

Whoosh.

I opened my eyes and I suddenly was in a dark place, thank goddess for my wolf eyes I was able to see without problems.

But the smell, it reeks of blood, vomit and decaying skin. The smell made me gag but I had to hold it in, I can't make the smell worse than it already is.

“Is that a hybrid ?” I heard someone whisper.

“Is he alive?”

“I think it's her?”

And then murmurs.

The guard hit a few times on the iron making everywhere go quiet.

“Another word about the King's meal and I'll make sure you see hell.”

Meal?

Are they referring to us as the meal?

Would they kill us?

You're overthinking, Aliya. Maybe…maybe he's pretending, let's get alone time with him then we'll know. Okay?

“Get in.” One of the guards pushed me into the cell.

I had completely zoned out while talking to Aliya that I didn't know when we got here. The force he used to push me, made me scrap my palm.

“Shit, I'm injured.” I said softly.

In a vampire castle? This is Transylvania, you can't bleed.

Wow, thank you for letting me know. Of course I know Aliya, don't make this more uncomfortable for me.

I said shutting her out. I looked up to see the two guards frozen staring at me. I gulped as I quickly tore a piece of my dirty cloth and wrapped it around my palm.

Yep, that will definitely get infected if I don't get it treated in time.

“Be careful hybrid, I may control myself but may won't.” The other guard snickered.

Just as I was about to ask what he meant by that, I heard hisses and that was when I noticed that I was in a dungeon full of vampires.

Evil Elexa, that's what she meant by cold as ice. Devil, I can't believe I complimented her before. I moved to the far end of the dungeon and curled myself.

I sniffed as tears gathered in my eyes.

Who would have thought mate would do this to us?

Aliya whined in my head as she cried.

Hey, we don't know anything yet, so let's be calm and see what happens next. He might come for us.

She blocked me out since she kept crying. I sighed out loud.

He'll come, I know he will.

Soon, seconds turned to minutes.

Minutes to hours.

And the cold was creeping into my veins. I could feel my muscles giving out.

Shivering, I said softly, “He would come.”

“Are you waiting for someone?” I heard a soft voice say, through the rail that separated us from each cell.

“Who….who are you?” I tried to talk through the cold I felt.

“Just a dungeon mate, I've been here for five days and I'm hungry.”

I squinted my eyes as I tried to make out her face but she kept it covered with her hair.

“How…oh my god…how did you survive here that long?” I asked, shivering even more from fear and the cold.

Conri won't leave me down here that long, right?

“I could tell you, if you come closer. I'm thirsty too.” She said coughing.

Oh, I know how straining it is to talk with a dry throat, how thoughtful of her.

I nodded as I moved slowly, still curled up with my knees to my chest, scared to change my position because of the cold.

“Closer.”

I moved again, too cold to continue.

“Closer dear, my throat is…” she stopped as she began coughing.

Every instinct screamed at me not to move but she sounded weak and I needed to know how to survive to save Conri.

“Okay, okay, I'm coming.” Just as I stood up to go to her the dungeons door opened, catching my attention as I stood just a few inches closer to the rail.

“Nice dry Azara, but it's for the king.” A royal guard said.

I turned back to the woman and saw her face more clearly as she lunged for me but luckily I was saved by the rail as I took multiple steps backward, breathing heavily.

“The fuck.” I said holding my chest.

“You're not a very smart hybrid.” He said as he opened the cell, “The king wants you.”

Conri?

My heart skipped a bit as I smiled inwardly.

Mate has come for us.

I told you he would.
