ā€˜Even without his rejection, as a human, I would never be worthy of standing beside Alexander as his equal,’ Emilia said to herself as she watched Alexander stare at Mia, so lovingly that it added to the ache which had already spread in her heart.

ā€œEnough with the photos please,ā€ Alexander spoke up, ā€œMiss Kim and I have spent countless hours forging something so exceptional and so unique,ā€ he said as everyone around them paused to listen.

ā€˜Countless hours for his ex, but not ten seconds for his wife?’ Emilia thought to herself as fresh tears rolled down her face at his words.

ā€œAnd today, I would like to announce a game-changing alliance between the Redstone pack and the MoonRay pack. With their backing, I would like to declare my nomination for werewolf presidency,ā€ Alexander stated again, and this time Mia chuckled beside him, and Emilia watched him turn and smile at her again.

ā€œIs alliance another code word for marriage?ā€ one of the journalists asked, ā€œhave you marked each other yet?ā€

ā€œYour opponents claim that without a mate or an heir, you are unfit to lead. What is your response?ā€ Another asked.

Emilia looked down at the gift wrap in her hand and then her hand moved to cradle her belly as a few thoughts began to pass through her mind.

ā€œMiss Kim, are you carrying Alpha Alexander's heir?ā€ the journalists asked, pointing the microphone towards Mia.

ā€œThose areā€¦ā€ Alexander began, but Mia's index finger shot up to touch his lips gently silencing him.

ā€œThose concerns will be resolved soon,ā€ Mia finished with a smile.

There seemed to be a hidden meaning behind her silencing Alexander with her finger because all of a sudden, the small crowd became excited and began to take more pictures of the both of them.

Emilia, who had decided to leave the vicinity, turned to do so, and all of a sudden, a security guard shoved her hard, making her stumble to the hard floor. Pain shot through her entire body, making her wince, but as she raised her head back up, her eyes landed on Alexander, with his arms around Mia, protectively shielding her from the wild crowd.

ā€˜My husband is too busy protecting another woman to notice me bleeding at his feet,’ Emilia said to herself as small droplets of blood dropped from her forehead to the floor. Before she could stand to her feet, strong arms picked her up from the floor.

ā€œThe servants quarters are at the back, let's go human,ā€ the man who had picked her said, while holding her bound.

ā€œGet your hands off me,ā€ Emilia said as she struggled to free herself from the rough man's hold. ā€œLeave me alone,ā€ she said louder, her voice alerting Alexander to her presence.

ā€œRelease her! Now!ā€ Alexander ordered, his voice loud but not loud enough to alert the journalists around, who were now being held back by security. ā€œWhat the hell are you doing here? You know the rules, no unauthorised access,ā€ He continued as Emilia walked closer to him, her forehead still bleeding.

ā€œWhy? Are you afraid that I'll interrupt your important work?ā€ Emilia asked, her voice shaky with tears even though she tried to control it, ā€œor your not-so-secret affair? which is it?ā€

With a smile still on her face, Mia gently stepped out from Alexander's hold and walked closer to Emilia. ā€œYou must be Emilia, Alexander's fated mate. Thank you for taking care of him for the last four years,ā€ she said, her voice pleasant.

Then Mia moved closer again to Emilia, and in a swift move she held up Emilia's face and moved her chin to the right side. ā€œNo mark. Good,ā€ Mia said, after taking a good look at Emilia's neck. Then she moved back to Alexander's side, ā€œSweetheart, I appreciate you keeping your promise of marking nobody but me,ā€ she said to Alexander.

Emilia's eyes widened with shock as she looked from Mia to Alexander, her gaze questioning. ā€œIt's not like that,ā€ Alexander answered, looking at Mia.

ā€œHoney,ā€ Mia continued in a condescending tone, turning to look at Emilia without missing a beat, ā€œI hope you know that human marriages mean absolutely nothing in werewolf society, right?ā€

ā€œNothing?ā€ Emilia asked, choking slightly on the fresh tears that bubbled from inside her as she looked at Alexander. ā€œIs that why I'm still unmarked? Because I'm just a human?ā€

ā€œLook, just go home,ā€ Alexander said, not bothering to answer her question, ā€œhave the maid clean up your wound, okay?ā€

ā€œYeah, darling, we should go,ā€ Mia said, turning to Alexander.

ā€œAlexander, wait,ā€ Emilia said, her voice sounding low and defeated. ā€œDon't walk away, you need to see this,ā€ she said, stretching the gift box in her hand towards Alexander.

Before Alexander could properly get a hold of the box, Mia snatched it from his hand. ā€œThis little surprise can wait. We can't be late for the baby's first check-up, right?ā€ She asked, turning to look at Alexander.

ā€œYes, you're right. We can't,ā€ Alexander replied.

ā€œShe's having your pup?ā€ Emilia asked with widened eyes as she was unable to believe what she'd just heard. At Alexander's silence, she grabbed a hold of the box in Mia's hand, ā€œthen this isn't for you. You don't deserve it.ā€

But as she tried to grab the box from Mia's hand, Mia refused to let go, leading to both of them tugging at the box, each refusing to let go.

ā€œHey, hey,ā€ Alexander called, trying to stop what was going on.

All of a sudden, Mia subtly used her werewolf strength to tug the box out from Emilia's hand, then she pushed herself backwards to make it look like Emilia had pushed her.

ā€œAlexander!ā€ Mia exclaimed, inching closer to his body, and holding him tight, ā€œthe baby,ā€ she added scrunching up her face like she was in pain.

For a moment Emilia stood with confusion written all over her face as she looked from Alexander to Mia and then back at Alexander.

ā€œSomething is wrong with the baby,ā€ Mia continued as she clung to Alexander's body.

ā€œWhat the heck is wrong with you, Emilia. Mia is pregnant for fucks sake,ā€ Alexander said, raising his voice a bit.

ā€œNo, I didn't….I didn't doā€¦ā€ Emilia began, stuttering a bit. But before she could complete her sentence, Alexander carried Mia up in his arms and into his vehicle, the simple act made the journalists who were being held back by security to begin taking fresh pictures and demanding a statement.

Now in the vehicle, Mia rolled down the window and with a triumphant smile on her face, she tossed the gift box towards Emilia with just enough Alpha power that the box hit Emilia on her stomach with so much force that she stumbled and fell to the floor.

And for the third time that day, excruciating pain shot through Emilia's body making her pass out cold. As Alexander's vehicle drove off, rain began to pour down on Emilia heavily, making her regain consciousness.

ā€œUhh…,ā€ Emilia groaned as she tried to lift herself up from the wet floor with rain water splattering consistently over her. ā€œOh no,ā€ she cried out again as she looked down at her body—a pool of blood flowing slowly from her body onto the floor. ā€œSomebody help me, please,ā€ she pleaded, to everyone and anyone that would listen, but the few persons she saw around her walked away from her and some of them even climbed over her to get to where they needed to go.

ā€œI'm so sorry, baby,ā€ Emilia whispered to the photo of the foetus that had been in the gift box but now lay on the floor, blood stained. ā€œIf your mummy hadn't been such a worthless human, your daddy wouldn't have left for another werewolf,ā€ she said again with tears flowing freely down her face.

And at that moment, another stab of pain shot through Emilia's abdomen making her gasp painfully as her body convulsed profusely.

From the corner of Alexander's office building, Harper Lee walked out from where she had been hiding and watching, waiting for the perfect opportunity to step out. She had seen when the crystal necklace that had been on Alpha Alexander mate’s neck had fallen down.

With the way Emilia was weak, it was hard to believe that she was anything more than a mere human, but she didn't want to take any chances, so she picked up the crystal necklace and wore it around her neck.

Harper moved a few feet away from Emilia's now unconscious body and fell down with a thud on the hard floor just as a black car with the emblem of the lycan royal family arrived at the scene.

The logic was sound, the kind of reasoning that made it clear this was about competence as much as disrespect. People who could be fooled so easily, who made no effort to verify information before acting on it, who followed authority without questioning obviously suspicious circumstances, were liabilities in any organization."You are all fired," Julian finished, the declaration delivered with finality that made several people gasp.Referring to Clara and the other employees apart from Victor, his hand swept to encompass everyone who had actively participated in the harassment. His face showed no regret, no hesitation about ending multiple careers with a simple statement. They had made their choices, and now they would face the consequences."Please, Sir," Clara said, falling to her knees immediately. "I'm so sorry."Joined by the other employees who had insulted Emilia, they formed a line of begging figures that would have been pathetic if their earlier cruelty had not been so eviden

"Who dares to insult my wife?" Alexander walked in closely behind them. His voice cut through the lobby like a blade, sharp and dangerous, carrying the kind of authority that made everyone freeze in place. At the same time, guards filed into the lobby and surrounded them, moving with military precision to secure every exit. The security personnel were clearly Alexander's people, wearing different uniforms from the institute's guards, faces set in grim lines that suggested they were prepared for violence if necessary.Alexander's presence transformed the atmosphere completely. Where Mason and Julian radiated protective fury, Alexander carried something colder, more controlled, but no less dangerous. His eyes had gone yellow, wolf visible just beneath the surface despite his perfectly tailored suit. His hands were clenched at his sides, jaw tight enough that the muscle jumped visibly beneath his skin."My Princes, Alpha Reed," Victor said, his voice carrying the kind of deference reserv

Emilia and the other employees burst out in laughter at the unceremonious way Jessy hit the ground. The sound filled the lobby, genuine amusement mixed with the relief of tension finally breaking. Emilia's hand came up to cover her mouth, but her shoulders shook with mirth that could not be contained. The employees joined in, their earlier fear transforming into nervous laughter that suggested they were trying to distance themselves from their mistakes. Some pointed at Jessy sprawled on the floor, others exchanged glances that communicated shared embarrassment at having been fooled. The sound echoed off the marble floors and high ceilings, amplifying until it felt like the entire building was laughing.Peter had a hand pressed to his chest, trying to regain his composure but failing as fresh waves of laughter overtook him. Even Victor's stern expression had cracked slightly, one corner of his mouth twitching upward despite his obvious attempt to maintain professional dignity."Emilia

"Victor, perfect timing," Clara exclaimed, quickly moving away from Emilia to where Victor now stood, her steps were unsteady, heels clicking erratically against the polished floor. Shock and fear still written on her face, her eyes remained wide and her breathing came in short gasps. She had no idea what had just happened, could not comprehend how Emilia had forced her to strike herself three times without touching her.As she reached Victor's side, her hand came up to cradle her now red cheek. The skin was inflamed, three distinct handprints visible where her palm had connected with force. Her fingers touched the tender flesh gingerly, wincing at even that gentle contact. Blood had dried at the corner of her mouth where her ring had cut into her lip during the final slap."These people walked in here disrespecting the CEO's sister," she whined, her voice taking on a plaintive quality designed to evoke sympathy.Pointing back toward Peter and Emilia, her other hand gestured wildly t

"Do not touch either of us," Emilia warned. Her voice cut through the lobby with unmistakable authority, the tone shifting from patient to commanding in an instant. She had had enough of the rubbish all these ignorant persons had tried to pull, enough of being dismissed and insulted and physically manhandled. Her eyes had gone hard, jaw set in a line that suggested she was done being accommodating. But if it came down to any of them trying to physically harm either her or Peter, she was not going to sit back. The threat was implicit in her posture, in the way her body had shifted to a more defensive stance. Her feet planted wider, weight distributed evenly, preparing to move if necessary. "Yes, do not dare touch her," Peter said, moving to stand more directly in front of Emilia despite her being the one with supernatural abilities. His protective instinct overrode logic, driven by Alexander's orders to keep her safe at all costs. His own body had tensed, chest puffed out in an attem

"Don't worry, Princess," Peter whispered, his voice barely audible even to Emilia's enhanced hearing. "I won't let anyone hurt you."Alexander had been explicit in his instructions when sending Peter to work here. 'Protect Emilia at all costs, but respect her desire for anonymity. Do not reveal who she was unless her life was in immediate danger.' Peter took those orders seriously, understanding that his boss's marriage depended on showing Emilia the respect of honoring her wishes even when it went against every protective instinct. The corner of Emilia's mouth twitched, suppressing the urge to laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Here stood Peter, a regular wold with little supernatural abilities, positioning himself between her and potential threats. His body was tense with determination, shoulders squared despite the security guards who outweighed him significantly. His hands had curled into fists at his sides, ready to fight if necessary. The thought brought warmth to her ches
