Chapter Thirteen

Solar was beginning to understand what Kaiden meant to them, and the thought of being his mate made her feel very strange, things she had never felt before, stuff she did not understand.

I frowned at her, feeling her tremble with emotions neither of us had ever experienced, and when she began to pace agitatedly, I had no idea what was wrong.

‘We need to run.’

She yelled at me impatiently,

‘Now, Dakota, we must run now!’

In a split second, she made us shift into our beautiful golden wolf and raced through the open door, a bright streak of colour the male wolves saw as they quickly gave chase. It was possibly the worst decision she had ever made. It was a wolf’s instinct to chase anything that ran away from it, especially a very intoxicating female, even if she did belong to their Alpha. It was no surprise that leading them was Midnight, Kaiden’s huge blue/black wolf, his brilliant blue eyes gleaming with lust as he raced ahead of his men. There was no way he was going to allow anyone to reach her before he did. Kaiden was finding it difficult to control the beast within him; he was beyond excited at the scent of his mate running ahead of him, and it was becoming difficult not to be infected with his desire for the feisty female.

‘Cut her off.’

He commanded sending his Betas out to get in front of her and send her back his way. They were so much bigger and faster than her, plus they knew the area, and she had never been in these woods before.

‘Manoeuvre her into the arena.’

Kaiden ordered, and the four Betas began to circle her, racing in and nipping her heels, sending her into a frenzy of anger and fear, as they wore her down easily. At first, we were not aware of their actions; we were running blindly purely on instinct, dodging this way and that, snapping and snarling at the big grey wolves when they came too close. It took me a little time to figure things out, but I  gradually began to see what they were doing and even anticipated their actions. I could smell his rich, male scent. To me, his scent was pine and amber, hints of citrus and smoky musk and his own unique male scent that was driving my wolf crazy.

‘He is our mate.’

Solar told me repeatedly.

‘Mate?’

I asked,

‘I don’t understand.’

‘He is ours, and we are his.’

Solar replied cryptically, and then she felt my resistance.

‘No, no, no.’

Solar was perplexed.

‘We don’t have a choice, Dakota, when the Moon Goddess makes two wolves fated mates, then we are meant to be together for all eternity. It is a rare blessing to find each other; most wolves never find their fated mate, they settle for someone else.’

I could feel Solar’s acceptance, feel her desire for this ‘fated mate’ rising through our bodies. I knew that if or when he found us, she wanted them to submit and allow the mating to take place.

I was horrified when she suddenly turned and allowed the other Beta wolves to herd her into yet another Pack arena.

Kaiden watched the stunning golden wolf run toward him into his arena. She was even more beautiful this close; the russet tips of her fur made her appear to be a living flame. Midnight was entranced by her; she was so small and dainty, but oh so damn enticing. Her scent was driving him into a rut, and it took all Kaiden’s strength of will not to allow it to happen.

‘We have to go gently, Midnight. She is so innocent, so new to all our ways. We need to protect and nurture her, bring her to our understanding with love and patience.’

‘Claim mate.’

Midnight replied that all his animal instincts were screaming at him to grab the little golden she-wolf by the back of her neck and drive his hard cock into her. He knew only the animalistic need to mate with her and make her his for the rest of their lives.

‘No.’

Kaiden reined in the animal, knowing instinctively that it would terrify the little female; she did not know their ways. The Mountain Top Pack had severely abused her, keeping her isolated and away from all Pack activities. Looking around, he saw his four Betas standing in each corner blocking off any chance of her escaping,g and he gave them an imperceptible nod; they were following his instructions perfectly. Then he turned his gaze to his beautiful mate.

‘Shift.’

He commanded, his powerful Lycan Alpha aura surrounding her, but to his surprise, the little golden wolf resisted him,m her beautiful eyes glowing like molten gold as she curled her lip into a snarl.

‘No.’

‘She was defying him.’

He was surprised by her strength, especially when she tried to push against his command with all her might. He could see it was taking everything she had; her body was braced on all four paws, and her head was almost touching the floor. Her breathing was fast as if she were running, and her body was trembling with the effort, but she was blocking his Alpha command.

‘Impossible.’

He growled and heard his Beta’s chuckling,

‘Told you, Boss, she may be small, but she’s got some spirit.’

Matty told him.

‘It took all four of us to make her shift; she’s clearly got Alpha blood in her.’

Kaiden stalked toward his little mate, increasing his aura surrounding her with his pheromones.  

I was exhausted, and my wolf was refusing to help me fight off this Alpha command thing I did not understand.

‘He is our fated mate; we cannot fight this.’

She repeated over and over again, she did not understand why I continued to fight the inevitable, because I was very attracted to Kaiden. He made me feel things I had never felt before. Every time he touched me, electricity shot to my core.
