RING RING!!!!!!!!!! My peaceful slumber was abruptly interrupted by the loud ringing of my phone, jolting me awake from a deep sleep. Groaning softly, I fumbled blindly around the bed, my hand searching for the source of the disturbance. But instead of the familiar cold touch of my cell phone, my palm collided with something warm and solid, sending a jolt of alarm coursing through my veins. Blinking blearily, my sleepy gaze focused on the unfamiliar face that loomed before me, watching me sleep. My heart leaped in my chest as I registered the presence of a stranger in my bed. As I studied his features, I noticed his chiseled jawline, tousled dark hair cascading gently over his forehead, and the faint hint of a dimple when he breathed softly . Despite my initial shock, I couldn't deny that he was quite handsome. "Who are you?" I demanded, my voice edged with a hint of steel as I reached for the pistol concealed beneath my pillows. "And what the hell are you doing in my bed?" I added, my gun fixed to his head The man recoiled in surprise, beads of sweat glistening on his brow despite the cool air of the five-star apartment we occupied. He opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off with a steely glare, my finger poised on the trigger. "Don't you remember me?" he stammered, his voice trembling with uncertainty. "I'm the guy from last night, the blind date." Recognition dawned on my face, mingled with a pang of embarrassment. "Oh, I'm so sorry," I murmured, my cheeks flushing with shame as I put the gun aside. "I must have had too much to drink." As I attempted to sit up, I realized with a start that I was naked beneath the thin cover of the duvet. Hastily pulling it closer to my body, I shot the man a wary glance. "Did anything happen between us?" I ventured, my voice laced with trepidation. A mischievous smile tugged at the corners of the man's lips as he met my gaze. "Oh, yes it did baby," he replied, his tone dripping with innuendo. "And it was beautiful." Discomfort prickled at my skin as I shifted uncomfortably beneath the weight of his gaze. But before the awkward silence could stretch any further, the cellphone resumed its incessant ringing, cutting through the tension like a knife. With a sense of relief, I seized the opportunity to divert our attention away from the uncomfortable exchange. Snatching up my phone, I silenced the ringing with a swift motion of my thumb. The number displaying on my phone screen was a stark reminder of the dual life I led - one as a woman seeking to fall in love and live a normal life, and the other as Night Star, the deadly assassin feared by all who crossed my path. With a sinking feeling in my chest, I knew that this call could only mean one thing: business. Forcing a warm smile onto my lips, I turned to the man still sitting on my bed, his eyes alight with admiration. "I have to take this call, it's urgent," I said softly, my voice betraying none of the unease churning inside me. "I'll be back in a second to join you." The man nodded in understanding, his gaze lingering on me as I made my way to the bathroom. Once alone, I wasted no time in answering the call, my heart pounding in my chest as I braced myself for whatever news awaited me on the other end. "Night Star," a voice spoke, the words laced with an air of secrecy and authority. "Active," I responded automatically, my voice steady despite the turmoil roiling inside me. The voice wasted no time in getting to the point. "The man on top wants to see you," it said, the words sending a chill down my spine. "Report to base immediately, it's urgent." Before I could utter a word in response, the voice added ominously, "Don't be late." And with that, the call was abruptly cut off, leaving me standing alone in the bathroom, my mind racing with a thousand questions. As I stared at my reflection in the mirror, the weight of my dual existence pressed down upon me like a leaden cloak, threatening to suffocate me with its relentless demands. With a sense of urgency driving my movements, I swiftly donned my matching black underwear and slipped into the skimpy silver dress that clung to my curves like a second skin. It had a low-cut neckline that showed off my chest. As I returned to the room, I found the man still seated on the bed, his expression a mixture of surprise and admiration. "Could you help me with this?" I asked, my voice soft but commanding as I turned my back to him, exposing the delicate hooks of my bra and the zipper of my dress. The man hesitated for a moment, his eyes lingering on my exposed skin, before nodding silently and stepping forward to assist me. His touch was gentle yet fleeting, sending shivers of awareness down my spine as he fastened my bra and zipped up my dress. Once dressed, I retrieved my gun from its hiding place beneath the pillow and gathered my belongings, tossing a handful of hundred-dollar bills onto the bed in a gesture of gratitude. "Thanks for a good time," I said curtly, my tone leaving no room for argument as I made my way toward the door. But the man's disappointment was palpable, his eyes clouded with hurt as he watched me prepare to leave. "I'm not your whore, Lucy," he protested, his voice tinged with desperation. "I thought we were in love, for moon's sake. When am I going to see you again?" I paused in the doorway, my hand resting on the handle as I turned to face him one last time. With a sad smile, I replied, "I'll call you when I need you." And with that, I was gone, the roar of my powerful bike drowning out the sound of the man's protests as I vanished into the darkness of the night.Lucy“We have your mother, Jax. You wouldn't want to do anything stupid.” The three of us were out, Luciana had her hold on the woman who still had her grip on the detonator.“Why did you come here, mom? How did you even find out about this place? When did you even arrive the city?”“I have my ways, Jax and I came here for you. I heard everything. I won’t let them take your throne away.”“But you risked your life!” Jax seemed confused in that moment.I looked around and couldn't find Seth.“Where’s Seth? Is he no longer on your side?”He glowered and growled. “Why don’t you go ask his dead body lying alongside others in that building!”I observed Luciana’s face, her expression was blank. Well, I had thought she would be sad by the news at least, she’d known him from years back.“So you’ve not had enough of us, huh? You came back for more?” I eyed his frail state. He was severely injured and was just holding on for dear life.He was just as stupid as his mother. Though they had wasted
Lucy“Hi. You said you wanted to see us.” I could not help stiffening my tone the moment we entered the living room and I spotted the woman who appeared to be in her late forties to early fifties. But I could see where Alpha Jax had gotten his features from. One glance and you would know she was not lying about being his mother.“Yes. Oh Mother of the Moon!” She exclaimed in shock seeing Luciana beside me. “Who’s Lucielle and who’s Luciana?”“I’m Lucy, not Lucielle and she’s Luciana.” I clarified.“No, Lucy’s for short. Your name is Lucielle. Your parents named you after your twin grandmothers, from your maternal side.” Her face fell as she said this.Luciana and I looked at each other, then at Armando before finally settling on the woman again. She was richly dressed but her emotions were on display. It made me wonder.“You seem to know a lot about us than we know of ourselves.” Luciana chipped in, she had pulled me to seat with her.Armando took the seat beside me. “What would you l
Lucy“How are you, Teck?” I carried the tray containing his breakfast to him. I had offered and lifted it out of the maid’s hands that had been bringing him his food.He was awake and seating but with lots of pillows propping his sides. He offered me a pallid smile. “Fine, thank you.”I dropped the tray before him. “Here’s breakfast.”“You made it yourself?” He asked, a bit surprised.I quirked a brow. “You think I can’t whip up a meal?”He chuckled lightly. “I didn’t say that. Thank you.”“How are you healing? How’s the ribs?” I asked, helping him stay stable so he could eat.“It still hurts.” He said.I sat back down on the bed. “I’m sorry Armando and I didn’t listen to you. You would not be in this situation if we had carried you along.”He shook his head. "It's okay. On the bright side, you met your sister.”“Yes, I did. You know, she said she agreed to kidnap you because she wanted to meet me.” I told him.During our conversation yesterday, she had confessed the reason she had ag
“After I was adopted, things were fine until two years later when they finally had their own child. They changed. I was sixteen and depressed. They treated me more like a maid or nanny, sometimes both. I didn’t complain about the nanny part because I loved the baby.”She drew a breath in. We were currently in the living room, we just finished dinner. It was time for some truth telling.“I had always been this strong, I realized. So one day, I returned home from school. As usual, the wife left the baby with me and went out. The house was left in disarray as it usually was, I cleaned and cooked my lunch. By the time I was done, I was tired. I fed the baby too.”“How cruel can some people be?” I could not believe this. Why bother go for a child if you didn’t want them? She shrugged. “I don’t know. So I fell asleep doing my assignment. Next thing, I was being woken up and accused of trying to kill their baby. I had no idea he was choking on his vomit.”“They accused you?”She looked at me
When the vehicle finally drove into the hotel, I was exhausted enough to fall asleep while also still incensed enough to punch someone to death.Luciana and I stepped out of the vehicle. I had a cut around my neck and waist, Luciana came out just fine.We had decided not to say anything until Armando was present. This whole saga was no longer just about me but him too.“Is it wise to return to the hotel where the guy was kidnapped?” Luciana asked. The guy that had driven us was one of Armando’s men.“Yes, boss.” He stepped out of the car. “Oh okay boss.” He put his phone back into his pocket. “Boss says he’s gone back home and I should bring you there. He said not to worry that he already cleared both rooms and lodged you out.”“That’s better.” Luciana climbed back into the backseat.I went back to the passenger seat and strapped in. The drive back to Armando’s home was quiet. I occasionally threw a glance at the back, I could still not believe I had a sister. A family. It was all so
“What the hell are you playing at, Jax?” Armando was not just angry, he was furious.I closed my mouth.“Hello sister.” She smiled.I did not need a soothsayer to get the story. “So you killed Zara.”“Smart, I like.” She beamed as though this was a party where everyone was mingling and telling their comical life stories.“I already know your friendship with Zara. What kind of friend kills their best friend?”“I needed the money. The Alpha was ready to pay, so what’s the big deal?”“I am so glad I never got to know you. You’re evil! You had a family!”“And you know that because?” She took steps towards me. She had the same brown tresses as I did. We were same height and I could guess we would fit in the same clothes.“Because I did a background check on you three.” I cast a glance Seth’s way.I turned to Alpha Jax. “How many other missions did you send her while you deceived me into going? Why did you even asked me to in the first place? You could have asked her to go without putting m
