For the first time, Mia feels the home she has lived in since she was a child was so big. Too big.
Her right leg is injured. The wound is a little above the knee. Running brushes her skirt against the wound over and over, the pain trembles her knees. But she can’t stop. Two people are after her, aiming for her life. She has no spare mind for anything but fleeing, so she hlods the hem of the skirt as much as she can with her one free hand.
She has her phone in her other hand. The thing that she is depending her life on -- she is calling him. Only HE can save her. After the call ends on itself she would just dial it again, praying he would pick up.
He never did.
She just witnessed her father and mother murdered burtally, and all she could count on is her husband, her Alpha, her everything that’s left.
But he is not answering his phone.
Today was meant to be a casule, cozy family night. She came home for supper. Her brother and sister-in-law put the noisy child to bed when she stayed in the living room with her parents. All Mia did was sitting on the carpet, watching the pair of old loving birds dancing to the slow music and she felt content in her chest.
But then a group of men in black broke in all of a sudden, and everything was ruined. They kicked down all doors, rushed into rooms roaring, and tore everyone they saw into pieces.
Her parents struggled in a brutal fight with the barbaric young wolves, trying to buy Mia time. Their blood soaked the wool carpet in the second floor’s livign room. The soulless open eyes of her father’s cold body still vivid in her mind as Mia dashed out, running for her life.
Right before those eyse lost the last light he was still shouting in a hoarse voice: “Run, run!”
To think that when those murderers barged in, she stood up to them claiming: “I am Mia Moore, wife of Alpha Bruce. Whatever you want, we can talk about it.”
How ridiculous.
Because the man in lead answered: “That’s right. Your life is what we are here for.”
She could only flee.
The two killers are are getting close. The wailing and wild laughter that fill the house tells her that once they caught up, the consequences would be lethal.
Her wolf Daisy growled at the killers before urging her, too: “Run, run!”
All she could do is to keep on running. She can’t defete them. Not on her own.
The only person who can save her now is the person on the other end of the phone, her husband, the pack's alpha, Bruce Kade.
He can definitely find out who is behind these people. He must have a way to stop them. Just tell him what's happening here now and he can make it stop.
Why didn’t he come with her today!
Right, he seemed to have told her this morning that there was an important event in the evening, so he asked her to go without him.
Mia turned around the corner in panic, tring to steady herself as she dashes off the stairs. Thinking of Bruce’s arrangements, her doubts and uneasiness begin to grow.
Why today? Of all the days, he just can’t be here, today.
"Who could haven’t known that he wasn’t here? Who could have access to the information of your parents' house? Who could command so many wolves?" Daisy roars again, demanding Mia sternly, "How dare they attack the Pack's Luna? Aren’t they afraid of Bruce’s wrath?”
Yes, who could it be to send these killers after her?! After HIS luna?!
Who could come to save her, her parents and her family...
The phone is still on the cold, emotionless dailing tone. He is still not answering.
She stumbles down the stairs. The open door is not far now.
It’s gloomy and rainy outside. The cold wind blew madly through the dark doorway, slapping cold mists on her face. The heavy rain seems to seal the the killings in the house inside this hell that Mia calls home only minutes ago, and all the clues are being buried and washed away.
Right across the wall is a different world, a dark, cold world with unknown things hidden in its darkenss.
But to Mia, even that world is better.
She hates rain and she hates darkness, but now she dashes into the once horrifying world because this a scary option, is the only chance her parents bought her, with their lives.
The phone call times out again, and Mia instantly dails, again.
She has to survive. If only she can find him, all will not be lost and she WILL avenge her family! If, she could find him.
Help me, save me, I only have you, please.
But instead of him, in front of her is only the gate of the villa, before a cold, dark, empty road with no trace of life. Anything can happen to her if she barges out alone. Not to mention, he won’t even know where to find her once she is out there.
"No time to hesitate! Survive first or we won’t have a chance! We can’t depend on no one now!” Daisy urges loudly and Mia has to agree, even though a slight hope remains in her chest for her hero to come for her.
Biting the bullet, Mia dashes for the gate. She is too late.
She barely made to the gate before rays of blinding bright lights shots at her. It’s the headlights of three Hummers charging at her. Her pupils dilated to the stimulating rays, trying to adjust from being in pure darkness. For a few seconds she can’s see, but can only freeze there, like a helpless lamb.
She instinctively raised her hand to cover her eyes, and a few nebulous figures approches, leisurely.
Right in the middle leading group is a woman. Against the blinding light, all Mia can see is the woman’s curvy figure, a wrap dress, and high heels. Behind her are two men, bulky in total black. Just like the killers. The man on the left holds an oversized black unbrella over the woman’s head.
Mia recognizes the woman at only her figure. Elena Duncan, eldest daughter of the Duncan familiy. Also the most loyal supporter, long time friend beside Bruce, her husband.
“You...” Mia has so many questions for Elena.
Before any of those questions can come out, Elena kicks Mia right on the wound on the side of her leg and Mia falls to the ground.
“Wanna know why I’m here, right?” Elena slowly knead her Dr. Martens into Mia’s stomach, deep and hard, with an condesendign look. Her eyes glitering viciously.
Yeah, why?
Is Elena behind all of this? How could she? How dare she to show her face? Aren’t she afraid of Bruce knowing about any of these?!
Wait. Aren’t Bruce supposed to be on a business meeting, WITH Elena on his side? After all, Elena is his trusted beta. So now Elena is here, where is Bruce?
A sudden fear grows in Mia and she dare not to think deep into that question.
Seeing the confusion in Mia’s eyes, Elena sneers coldly: “You have occupied the Luna’s title far too long. You are not a good match for Bruce, not your family nor your ability. If you really want to know why--”
Mia looks up at Elena’s cold eyes, rains slapping on her face.
“It’s because you lack the decency of remise what you don’t deserve.” Elena curves her lips evilly, utter one word after another, “So, HE sent me.”
Listening to Elena’s vicious words, Mia is stunned for a moment.Does she really hate me so much? But why? Actually, since when?!Mia has always known that compared to Bruce’s friends and supporters, she is on the weak and ordinary side. Her family is not rich rich, and she doesn’t have any eye-catching talent either. She became Luna only because, she is Bruce’s true mate. No other reason.Mia knew Elena had a crush on Bruce, strong enough to drool after the Luna’s title. She just didn’t expect Elena to be obsessive enough to commit crimes for it. After all, Mia has always maintained a good terms with Elena. Or so she thought. But Elena just pulled a plain massacre! Wiping out her entire family! How could she?!Has she lost it?The rain washes over Mia’s face, mixed with tears. Soaking wet, Mia looks pale and fragile.Daisy glares at Elena fiercely. Her mild wolf, is now arching her back high with a threatenign grunt rolling in her throat: “That’s right, she is crazy! She wants to be
6:40 in the evening, Creekview Manor, the charity dinner held by Kade Pharma of Pack Deimos is starting in 20 minutes. The core executives of the pack gathered together, with many important people of the city there supporting the event. The manor is brightly lit, the dazzling light able to be seen miles away. The guests are all glamorous, neatly dressed in their luxurious custom-made and glimmering jewelry, looking noble.Media are squatting at the entrance, some wandering around the banquet with their cameras flashing nonstop, capturing the glamorous faces with their lens, phones on gimbals or simply in hands. The host of the dinner party though, Bruce Kade, has not yet appeared. The guests gather together in twos and threes, chatting heatedly.Mia has an old mobile phone on a gimbals. With a fake media ID, she has been able to sneak into the party without rising suspicion."Remember, you are hired by Mrs. Adina as her private photographer. That’s her thing, everyone knows it. Except
Daisy tries to dash over to him the moment she saw him. Her paws stamping anxiously as she urges Mia: “Go to him! To him!”“Stop the barking!” Mia has to roar back at her reckless wolf. Did Daisy not learn anything from that night a year ago?She can’t go to him. She can’t let him see them. To him, she is dead. But there is little Mia is able to do besides yelling at Daisy. She herself is also freezing where they are. Her knees shivering as are her hands. It takes all her strength to just remain standing.Scanning the room, Bruce bows lightly before he nods a little: “Welcome, everyone, to today’s celebration. I know you are all excited about our latest results, which has been announced through all channels, so I won’t bore you with the details here.”Saying so, he raises a hand and leads everyone’s eyes to a man standing on the left of the stairs: “Thanks to Ivan Osborn and his research team, who managed this great accomplishment with decent time and budget.”Applause raises as he co
Bruce stands in that empty corner, confused at his excited wolf: “There is nothing here.”“Yes, there is!” Aspen insists, lowering his head and sniffs around. He sniffs from left to right and up and down, occasionally stops and thinks before he continue. Finally when he found the wall Mia leaned against he jumps up: “Here! Right here! She came back! She was here!”“She is?” Bruce mumbles, couldn’t believe what he just heard.Staring at the gray-green wallpapered corner for a very long moment, Bruce then slowly stretches out a hand, putting his slightly trembling fingers over it.“Are you sure?” Bruce tries to feel the wall. He is dreadful to“Definitely! A hundred percent sure!” Aspen pushes his nose close to sniff again, taking in the scent carefully, “It’s her! She was right here not too long ago!”Thank the moon goddess! She is still alive. There were so many sleepless nights where he struggles in bed, haunted by the possibility that she might have died already. Bruce clenches his
Paused, Clint Wood is obviously surprised by Mia’s presence. Face to face with him, Mia is not sure whether to excite or panic. Good thing is she found the target, but she hasn’t come out of the shock of seeing Bruce, and right now she is caught off guard, too. But there is no time to hesitate. Taking a deep breath, she charges up with a swift move, her stun gun pressed on his waist as she threats in a low voice: “Don’t move. I just want to ask a few questions. Play along or it would end badly for you.” The stun gun is in a gun’s shape. Wood only felt a hard metal pressed on his waist and in shock he turns to look. “I said don’t move!” Mia hisses at him with a shove on his shoulder. Being crafty for a living, Wood instantly corporates with his hands up in the air: “Okay, I won’t move. Anything you want, we can talk about it.” Mia is the more nervous one. Thin sweat breaks out in her palm, she has to clench the stun gun so hard her joints hurt. Taking another deep breath, Mia hi
Surrounded by a crowd, it took all his upbringing and patience engraved in his blood for Bruce to stay put for Sophia’s return. When Sophia finally comes back, Bruce is right in the middle of a patriarchal lecture from Theodore, the Alpha of Pack Scarlett Stone: “Next month, Seraphina Estate in the southern subrub. You must come. Sharing the same city, our two packs should pick up friendly events like this.”Sophia gives a light, firm nod from a distance outside the elite circle surrunding Bruce, and his eyes immediately light up. He basically cut off the old man’s slow speech, squeezing out the last drop of courtesy as he says with curved lips: “Sorry, but my secretary is here with an important matter. I’ll let her handle the matter of the manquet next month though. You are absolutely right about us improving contact.”As he speak, he pats Theodore on his arm, barely expressing his courtesy before he pushes aside the crowd and leaves.“Speak,” Heading out the ballroom, Bruce demands.
Fury rushes to the top of her head, Mia would have left several bullet holes on him to teach him the consequences of being smart and playing her around! But Daisy feels danger coming and that calms her down fast. The steps are coming in their direction, closer and closer.“He is coming! It’s him! He is here for us!” Unlike the panicking, anxious Clint Wood who is now curling on the floor with his head under his arms, Daisy is filled with excitement and joy.If it’s not that Daisy can’t embarrass her in front of anyone else, Mia would have stun-gunned Daisy too.The steps almost made to her door. And if it’s really Bruce, then he is definitely coming for her. Mia closes her eyes to calm herself, shutting her agitated wolf out, she turns to Clint Wood.“Very brave of you,” Mia gives him a sinister smirk, patting him on the shoulder, “Thanks for the help today. I’ll come for you again, that’s a promise.”Her tone gentle and soft, yet her smile gives Clint Wood a cold shiver. Clint Wood p
Woken up by a basin of cold water poured on him, Clint Wood is totally out of there for long.Four bulky bodyguards on his sides, Clint found himself in a rather hard spot with a fearful Alpha sitting in front of him, eyes ice cold. The Alpha of pack Deimos. Clint doesn't need to check the internet to know this man. Besides the sullen Alpha stands THE secretary of his, her eyes with a shade of confusion but mostly pity when she looks over.Clint understands her look -- he is NOT in a good shape. Sitting on the floor, he is dripping all over from the tip of his hair. His hands shaking from the stun gun a moment ago. He can’t seem to sit straight because of the burn on his waist. But the Alpha remains his top one problem -- Clint can’t read this man -- his eyes are too deep. Clint can only assume the Alpha is not very happy from the timid look of the secretary.“The one who knocked you out, what did they want?” Giving Clint a moment to wake up, Bruce takes the time to observe the oily m
