Hulio

New York. Thursday, June 19th.

Evening.

9:00 PM.

Persistent knocking on the door.

“Yeah, come in,” I call, tight with irritation. My lips pulled in a thin line.

I’m buried under a mountain of Helia’s assigned tasks. Financial projections, market forecasts, files I didn’t ask for. Files I wouldn’t ask for. My head aches. My patience is thin. I need painkillers.

“What are you doing?” That voice.

I’d recognize it anywhere. Helia.

He asks, like it’s not obvious. Like he isn’t responsible for this.

I look up. A cocky smile tugs my lips. “Neck deep in the shit you dumped on me.” My voice is dry.

My brow lifts in challenge.

He doesn’t bite. Doesn’t even flinch. Just steps in farther, fingers trailing along a shelf like he’s browsing an art gallery instead of invading my space. He’s so smug. Arrogant prick.

“I’m traveling to Milan tomorrow. Need a breather.” His voice is stiff, professional.

Not brotherly. Not familiar.

And me? What am I, his stuffed turkey? Don’t I need a breather?

Helia.Later…I rush into the police station with Ferdinand by my side, my pulse hammering in my ears. Dean called us here. No explanation, just urgency in his voice. My nerves are stretched thin, my senses on fire with warning. An officer escorts us down a quiet hall and into an observation room. One way mirror ahead. And when I look through it my whole body goes cold.Ashley Hills, seated on an interrogation chair, pale under the fluorescent light.Shock grips me, but I force myself into the chair opposite Dean when he gestures.“Good day, gentlemen,” he says smoothly. I barely hear him. My eyes won’t leave Ashley.“What’s the meaning of this, Dean?” My voice is hard.“As you’ve noticed, Miss Hills is here.” He leans back, almost amused. “But that’s not the only reason I called you. See, this is… a series of coincidences.”He smirks. I bristle. I'm impatient.“Tana, the maid you mentioned, Mr. Ferdinand, the one who helped Miss Hills drug her mother? She woke up yesterday.”The wor

Ashley. Alexa brings us to our late father’s office. Or what’s left of it, now that Erwin has gutted and remodeled the place to his taste. The smell, the walls, even the desk, it’s all different. But my body remembers. My skin crawls. Memories claw back of when he fucked me here, fresh from Cancun with Mum, like it was his right. “I… I know we haven’t had the best relationship in years.” I snap my gaze to her voice. It's truly her. My sister. And suddenly it hits me, why didn’t I see it before? That the voice was truly Alexa's. Maybe because I stopped paying attention to Alexa long ago. Maybe because somewhere along the line, I stopped being her sister and started being her rival. She’s standing there, words trembling out of her mouth, and I just stare. I was already halfway gone, heading back to my hotel. Just came this morning to pick up a few documents I need before I disappear. Travel. Run. I know Erwin won’t spare me after I challenged him. He’ll come. He always comes. And I

Alexa. 14th January, Wednesday. Next day… Morning. 6 a.m., and the drive to the mansion is heavy with silence. Not because there’s nothing to say, but because of the words Helia whispered minutes ago that haven’t stopped echoing through me. I had just stepped out of his shower, skin still humming more from desire for him than from the cold. I thought he was asleep when I slipped back into the room, but the moment I lay on the bed to watch him, his eyes snapped open. I gasped. ‘Were you checking me out?’ Ge teased. I laughed, relief loosening my chest. Our old banter, something I thought we had lost. Since before I married Hulio, Helia had pulled back, never telling me why. Now, it almost felt like we had found our way back. ‘Don’t be silly. I was just moving your hair out of your face.’ I lied, already rising, trying to put distance between us before we were tangled up again. But he was quicker. His hands caught me, and suddenly I was pinned beneath him. His eyes bore into mi

Helia. Minutes later… Alexa sits on my bed, exactly where I told her to sit. Sheets red as sin spill around her like they were made for her body. ‘You’ll do whatever I say. No questions,’ I had whispered as we walked in. She looked at me with wide, unblinking eyes, hunger burning behind them, and nodded. That nod was all I needed. Now she’s perched there, waiting, green dress snug on her, coat gone. I shrug out of my trench coat and move closer, heat already coiling low inside me. “Close your eyes.” My voice is quiet, but it cuts through the stillness. She obeys instantly. I slide a red blindfold over her, fingers brushing her cheek. Her breath hitches, and I smile, because she trusts me. I ease her back into the sheets, her long legs spilling free through the slit in her dress. I lift one leg, resting it on my shoulder, trailing my lips down her calf, her ankle, until I suck her toes into my mouth. She gasps, body jerking, tongue flicking over her bottom lip. “So beautiful,

Alexa. Night. “Helia, you needed to have heard what Erwin said…I couldn’t believe it. But he did. I was scared. I wish I had recorded it.” My hand trembles, water sloshing inside the glass. He steadies my hand without a word. My gaze lifts to his and suddenly my lungs remember how to breathe. His eyes say it all, ‘Calm down. I’m here.’ The storm in me eases, though my skin tingles with sensations I can’t ignore. My body wants to register them, my heart doesn’t. “Thank you…I needed that.” My smile is tentative. I pull my hand back before he melts me into butter. I can’t afford weak emotions. Not now. Not after Hulio. Silence stretches between us, filled by the hum of quiet conversations and clinking glasses around the restaurant. Helia brought me here after I called earlier. Dinner, he promised. He picked me up the moment he was done with his day. Now we sit dressed for the evening, me in a green maxi dress and cashmere coat, him in a black shirt with sleeves rolled at the elb

Ashley. Meanwhile… Tears blur my vision as I drive, my chest thundering with every beat of my heart. I can’t stop replaying everything that has happened since that night, since I was exposed before everyone. Fury had driven me thereafter. So much fury that I went straight to Hulio’s house to wait for him. ‘Hulio…let’s talk about this…I can prove that girl isn’t my sister…’ I had tried to defend myself, clinging to my story. But the empty look in his eyes, the slump of defeat in his gait it unsettled me. Still, I pressed on. And then he spoke words that rooted me where I stood. ‘But can you prove you didn’t say those words she accused you of?’ I stared at him, shocked. Silent. And when I had nothing, when my own silence betrayed me, his voice turned to steel. ‘Get your things and leave my house. I don’t ever want to see you again. If I do, I’ll do something you won’t be happy to discover.’ Shame found me then. Heavy. Merciless. I grabbed my things and left without another word.
