~Serah POV~

"Why should we waste more time on her?" one of the Council elders hissed, his fangs glistening with fresh blood. "She's a traitor's mate, carrying an heir she doesn't deserve."

"I am not a traitor!" I snapped before I could stop myself. My voice rang through the chamber, too loud, too sharp, every pair of red eyes turning toward me.

Tristan groaned under his breath. "Serah, stop."

"No," I bit out, glaring at them even though my legs trembled under the weight of my swollen belly. "I

  • Rise Of The Abandoned Bride   Chapter 39

~Lydia POV~I watched from the upper balcony as Serah stormed away from the young rogue near the garden wall. My heart beat faster because the plan was already moving, but I had not expected her to catch us talking so soon. I turned to leave when I heard her voice ring out behind me."Stop right there, Lydia!"Serah marched straight toward me, her face tight with anger, and Jethro appeared from nowhere and walked beside her, close enough that their arms almost brushed. Guess his wondering what is going on.I lifted my chin. "What do you want?"Serah stopped a few steps away. "I just left your rogue servant, and he told me everything. You asked him to get close to me, to make it look like we were having an affair! Have you lost your mind? What kind of ridiculous game are you playing now?"Jethro's eyebrows shot up. He glanced at me, surprised.I widened my eyes and let my voice sound shocked. "An affair? What are you saying, Serah? How could you accuse me of such a lie? After everythin

  • Rise Of The Abandoned Bride   Chapter 38

~Serah POV~I walked through the quiet garden path the next evening, enjoying the cool air on my skin after a long day. Silas slept peacefully in my arms, wrapped in a soft blanket. The naming ceremony had brought a strange kind of peace to the palace, but I still felt watchful, as if something in the air felt off, like eyes were always following me.Near the old stone wall by the side gate, I spotted two figures standing close together in the shadows. One was clearly Lydia and the other was a young rogue servant I had seen around the palace before. They spoke in low voices, heads bent toward each other as Lydia's hand rested on his arm as she whispered something urgent.I stepped closer without thinking. "What is going on here?"Lydia turned sharply and for a moment her face showed surprise, then it smoothed coldly. "Can't I speak to whoever I want now? Must every conversation now go through the queen?"Her tone carried the old bite, it was obvious that she's still pained for apologi

  • Rise Of The Abandoned Bride   Chapter 37

~Lydia's POV~I stood there in the middle of the room, staring at Jethro and Serah like I had walked into some kind of nightmare. "Is this why you brought me here?" My voice came out sharp, but inside my chest everything felt heavy and tight. The guards had dragged me straight from the cold stone cell. I could still picture it clearly in my mind, the damp walls covered in green slime, the iron bars that smelled of rust and old blood, the tiny puddle of water in the corner that never dried. I had paced that small space for hours, feeling the weight of every insult Serah had thrown at me. Now they expected me to stand here and beg?Jethro looked at me without any softness. "I said, apologize to Serah right now or risk being taken back to the dungeon."Serah held Silas close to her chest, watching me with calm eyes and Maribel stood a few steps behind her, quiet and watchful as always. I felt my pride burn, but I knew I had no choice if I wanted to be out of that hole because I don't kno

  • Rise Of The Abandoned Bride   Chapter 36

Serah's POVI stood at the entrance of the dungeon, rage burning hot in my chest like fresh blood. The memory of Lydia slapping me in front of the maids still stung on my cheek. She really thought she could disrespect me openly and the only punishment would be a night in this cold cell? Hell no! That was too easy, and merciful. Before she could even turn fully toward the sound of my footsteps, I moved and sped like a wind through the bars, my fangs were fully extended, claws out. My nails raked across her arms, her shoulders, chest, even deeper that I got angry and made the scratches tear through her fabric and skin. Lydia gasped, trying to fight back, swinging wildly, but I was faster now. Stronger that every time she reached for me, I was already somewhere else, leaving fresh marks on her body. She stumbled backward, blood welling up in her thin red lines. "Stop!" She yelled. But I didn't because I wanted her to feel even a fraction of the humiliation she had thrown at me for months

  • Rise Of The Abandoned Bride   Chapter 35

Lydia's POVThe banquet hall had barely emptied when I slipped away from the lingering guests and made my way straight to Jethro's private chamber. My blood was still boiling from everything that had just happened. The way he had lifted that child high, given him a name, and then without even a warning, he announced Serah as queen. My hands shook as I pushed the heavy door open.Jethro stood by the window, staring out into the night. He didn't turn around immediately.“What is the meaning of what just happened out there?” I demanded, my voice shaking with anger. “First you name the child, then you go ahead and pronounce Serah as your queen? A woman with forbidden blood running through her veins, and the entire council just accepted it without question!”He finally faced me, expression calm in a way that only made me angrier. "I had to do what is right because my son needs a proper place in this world. I don't want him growing up hating me the way some children hate their fathers."I s

  • Rise Of The Abandoned Bride   Chapter 34

Serah's POVThe morning light filtered through the narrow windows of the palace like it had decided to be gentle for once. I was still trying to wrap my head around the sudden shift when maids appeared at my cell door, faces bright and nervous. They unlocked it, their voices soft and respectful. “My lady, Lord Jethro has called for you, please allow us to prepare you.” They led me upstairs. I expected more questions or another round of accusations, but instead they took me straight to the bathing chamber.Warm water steamed in the large copper tub as they helped me undress, poured scented oils into the bath, and washed my hair with careful fingers. It seems I was dreaming when another group of maids brought my son, cleaned him gently, and dressed him in soft white linen embroidered with silver thread. They even bowed to me! I mean actual bows, heads lowered, and voices respectful."My lady," one whispered, "Lord Jethro wants to see you when you're ready."I sat there in fresh silk, my
