I sat up slowly in the chamber, still feeling the strange weakness in my body after the collapse.

The door opened and Duskbane and Lady Luis walked in. They bowed low to Jethro, who was still sitting beside the bed.

"My lord," they said together.

Jethro stood up without a word and walked out, leaving the three of us alone. I looked at them, surprised. "Why did you come?"

Lady Luis sat on the edge of the bed and smiled in a way that felt strange. "My daughter," she said softly.
