As evening drew near, Marcus arrived accompanied by the healer to visit Scarlett, who still lay weak in her bed.

“Granddaughter, thank the heavens you have finally regained consciousness.”

“Grandfather, welcome.” She began to rise from her reclining position with Mia’s help to greet him.

Marcus sat on the chair beside her bed and instructed the middle‑aged healer to hand a small package to Mia.

“I asked Healer Vale to prepare a tonic for you, Scarlett. It will be very beneficial for your recovery and your future health,” he said with a wise, gentle smile.

A tonic.

Just hearing that word made her heart ache sharply. For some reason, ever since the incident at the ceremony, a deep fear had taken root within her, twisting her stomach and making her skin prickle with unease.

Scarlett clenched her hands tightly for a moment, trying to shake off the terror that had suddenly surged through her. She forced herself to trust her grandfather and looked at him with soft, calm eyes.

“Thank you, Grandfather. You are always so kind to me, and yet I am always causing you trouble,” she replied gently.

Marcus’s eyes glistened with moisture. “No, my child. Never think that.”

He nodded to the healer, signaling him to examine Scarlett’s condition.

The middle‑aged man approached her, lightly pressing his fingers to her wrist and resting a hand briefly on her forehead and temples. The healer, with his full white beard, frowned deeply and looked thoroughly confused.

“How is my granddaughter’s condition, Master Vale?” Marcus asked with deep concern, noticing the healer had fallen into a long silence.

‘What has happened to the young lady? I have never seen anything like this before. Her wolf spirit’s energy and presence are slowly fading in and out, waxing and waning. That is exactly why her strength drains so easily, just like someone who is severely malnourished. But what am I supposed to tell Elder Marcus? This is not an illness that I know how to cure.’

Healer Vale’s inner voice rang loud and clear in Scarlett’s mind, causing her to unconsciously furrow her brow.

‘Is it because of these new powers I have gained that my wolf spirit feels so weak and unstable?’

“So tell me, what is wrong with my granddaughter, Healer Vale?” Marcus pressed a second time.

Scarlett snapped out of her thoughts, and the healer jumped slightly, startled back to reality.

“Forgive me, Elder Marcus… it seems that the young lady… I am not entirely certain. Physically, she is perfectly healthy. However, I have observed symptoms such as extreme weakness and… and… lack of proper nourishment…” the healer explained, his tone awkward and hesitant, clearly afraid of saying the wrong thing.

“Lack of nourishment?!” Marcus stood up in shock, raising his voice in disbelief. His aged face clearly showed suppressed anger and utter bewilderment.

“Scarlett… how could you be lacking proper nourishment?” Marcus demanded, looking straight at her before turning his gaze toward Mia.

Mia immediately sank to the floor, trembling in pure fear.

“Grandfather… no. Please forgive me. This is entirely my fault,” Scarlett said quickly.

“Perhaps I have been under too much stress and burdened with too many worries while preparing for the selection ceremony. That is why I often forgot to eat. Mia has always taken excellent care of me, it is only me, thinking too much about everything,” she explained, smiling sweetly up at him.

“Please calm down, Grandfather. Do not worry so much. I am still young and strong, you know. Actually, you are the one who needs to rest more at home. If there are summons to the palace, let me go in your place from now on, or send someone else to represent you,” Scarlett said, skillfully redirecting his attention.

“You are right, my dear. This responsibility should have been passed to my successor long ago. But within our pack, no one else possesses abilities equal to yours. And soon enough, you yourself will be raised to the position of Luna of our pack. That is a heavy burden to carry all on your own.”

He sighed heavily, placing his hands gently upon her shoulders.

“That is why I have always hoped that you would find your true mate, someone capable of protecting you and our pack properly in the future.” Marcus’s voice sounded deep and filled with emotion.

“But please… grant this old man one wish. Never think of your duties as a heavy burden, my granddaughter. You still have me. I will always be here to protect and support you.” Marcus ended their conversation with a calm, soothing smile.

Tears suddenly spilled from Scarlett’s eyes. A rush of overwhelming emotion flooded her chest, bringing back vivid memories from her past life. She remembered how Marcus had saved her when, as a child, she had been thrown back by a spell gone wrong.

She remembered how Marcus had been forced to cast powerful protection spells simply because she could not control the immense energy of her wolf spirit when she awakened earlier than she should have. It was Marcus who had helped her name her wolf spirit Alea, so that she could command it and control its power easily.

“Thank you, Grandfather. From now on, Scarlett will study harder and do her absolute best… for you and for our pack,” she promised, kissing the back of his hand. Marcus nodded, looking immensely relieved.

Marcus turned toward Mia. “Bring the tonic here. Let her drink it now, so she may recover quickly and be ready for the wedding ceremony ahead.”

Scarlett’s back stiffened instantly. No matter what had happened before, she still had no way of knowing for certain if this tonic was poisoned or safe.

And there was one more thing she had just realized, she could not hear Marcus’s thoughts either.

Was her beloved grandfather also part of the conspiracy to kill her in her past life?

Close to midnight, Scarlett felt faint vibrations of energy seeping through the cracks in her bedroom walls. She ran her hand along the inner wall of the dark passage and recognized Levi’s power lingering there.‘Thank goodness I still remember this room. It is the only space connected to the secret passages leading to the main hall and the clan’s hidden chambers. I suspect even Grandfather has forgotten these tunnels. My father was the one who built them, after all.’She moved slowly through the darkness, guided only by the pale glow of a flat white crystal held in her hand. Stopping at a fork in the passage, she sensed a sudden surge of energy coming from the direction of the great hall.‘Perfect. It looks like Levi has taken the bait and is moving exactly as I hoped. Thankfully I still had enough strength left to place new warning crystals along every wall in this section.’She turned and followed another branch of the passage until she found an old lever set into the wall. It look

‘I hope I can break through the barrier in Damian’s mind this time.’Scarlett clenched her hands tightly for a moment, steadying herself as she caught sight of Damian standing and waiting for her.She had come accompanied by Mia, who stood a short distance away in the garden on the west side of the Shadowmoon clan castle gates. This spot was rarely used for meetings or walks, as it lay far from the castle’s main entrance. She waved to Damian, who walked toward her with his usual upright, composed bearing."Why did you want to meet in a place like this, Scarlett?" Damian asked, going straight to the point."I am sorry to trouble you with coming here tonight. I could not speak openly after classes. You must know Grandfather has forbidden me from returning to the academy until the appointed day arrives," Scarlett replied, sounding awkward."It is no trouble. I was just..." Damian shifted his hands nervously and scratched his cheek, though there was no itch there. "I was surprised when I

Scarlett released her grip on Mia, her hands trembling slightly. "No. What I mean is... this... this..."She held out both palms toward Mia. "I can feel Damian’s energy and scent right here. So I thought... he was the one who helped me. Am I right? What exactly did he do? Tell me the truth, Mia."The fear and confusion on Mia’s face faded, replaced by a heavy sigh of relief.‘I was so worried she could read my mind. That would have been terrible. If Damian really was the first one to find her, I would never have been able to lie about it. She would have punished me, and she would have been so embarrassed.’Mia was right. Scarlett felt far more than embarrassment. Heat flooded her face and spread through every inch of her body. She pressed her hands to her temples and rubbed them slowly, trying to hide how flustered she truly was.‘Oh no. Damian found me first? And I was... in that state? How could I possibly face him after something like this? It is absolutely mortifying.’"Miss, are

Scarlett wiped the sweat from her face. She stumbled suddenly and nearly fell, catching herself quickly against the wall beside her.‘Oh, no. That spell drained too much of my energy.’ She stared at her hands, which were still trembling from the exertion.‘Why is it this bad? Is it because of this new mind reading ability I just gained? No. I have to learn to control it. Especially since I can feel Alea’s power growing weaker by the moment.’Suddenly, a sharp, distinct scent drifted toward her. Scarlett gasped and forced herself to move toward the hidden doorway behind the Moon Goddess statue. Through the crystal orb held in the statue’s hand, she caught a glimpse of Marcus and several Elders hurrying toward the main hall.‘This is bad. Did Grandfather sense the energy shift from the sacred scroll because of what I did? I have to get out of here now!’Her steps were heavy and unsteady, but she reached the passage entrance just as the heavy chains securing the main doors began to rattle

'Six more days.’Scarlett stood and gazed at the old almanac hanging on the wall. She ran her fingers over the thick, yellowed pages, marked with symbols shaped like sharp spikes, drawings of the moon in every phase, and complex calculations scrawled in between. She picked up a flat, smooth crystal stone from her table and called Mia’s name after tapping its surface once. Immediately, Mia’s face appeared as a clear reflection within the stone, looking back at her.“My Lady, is there anything else you require?” Mia asked, her voice carrying clearly through the magical link.“Nothing for now. If you have finished the task I gave you earlier, you may rest in my old chambers until dinner is served. Do not disturb me here until then.”Scarlett ended the connection as soon as she heard Mia’s obedient reply. She slipped the flat stone into a small pouch tied at her waist, then turned and began walking around the room, searching carefully.‘According to what I remember, somewhere within the wa

“Please...” Scarlett stepped between Levi and Damian, her arms outstretched toward both men.“Stop making a scene here. All I want is some peace and quiet.” She turned back to face Levi.“And you, Levi, if you are truly so confident your name is written there, you should not need to shout about it. You even accused anyone and everyone of being able to alter the names on that sacred scroll, as if the names are easy to change, when it is obvious they cannot be modified once set in place. Unless...” She paused.“Unless someone intentionally tried to change them...” She looked slowly at every person gathered there, one by one. “And usually, the person who immediately thinks of that possibility is the one who knows exactly what really happened.”Her words made everyone exchange meaningful glances, until all eyes settled on Levi. His jaw tightened, and he clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.Levi knew Scarlett was guiding everyone’s opinion to turn against him, and he was co
