‘It has to be Levi!’

Scarlett knew Levi’s nature all too well. That man carried the blood of a wolf that flared easily with temper and loved to display his strength.

Now, every bit of that felt utterly repulsive to Scarlett.

“Damian, what exactly are you implying? Do not start trouble here!” Levi growled, furious.

Damian raised both hands in a casual gesture of surrender. “Hey now, friend, no need to get angry. My apologies, I’ve always had a terrible sense of humor.”

This time, Scarlett could no longer hold back her reaction. The moment she heard the tone of Damian’s voice, she jerked awake from her feigned sleep, coughing softly from having suppressed her laughter for so long. In that very instant, she realized something startling, her sleep spell had absolutely no effect on Damian at all.

Suddenly, every hair on Scarlett’s body stood on end.

‘Damian Carrington… In my past life, you were my sworn enemy, the one I hated most, and the one I always defeated so easily. But now… why do I suddenly feel afraid of you? Who… really are you?’

“Miss! You are awake!” Mia shrieked, pushing past Viviane and Levi, who stood only a short distance from Scarlett’s bed. She hurried to help Scarlett sit up and handed her water.

‘Dammit! She really is awake!’ Viviane and Levi screamed inside their heads almost at the same time. Their thoughts echoed loudly in Scarlett’s mind, causing her to choke on her water and break into a fresh fit of coughing.

“Sister, thank the Goddess you’ve come to!” Viviane cried out, grabbing Scarlett’s hand and shoving Mia roughly away from the bedside. Mia stumbled and would have fallen if Damian hadn’t reached out to steady her.

“Viviane, I am well, thanks to your prayers. But why did you push Mia?” Scarlett asked softly, pulling her hand free from Viviane’s grasp.

“I am so sorry, Sister. I didn’t mean to… it’s only because I was so worried about you,” Viviane replied, her eyes glistening with tears, twisting the fabric of her dress and bowing her head.

“Scarlett, we were all so worried about you. Viviane couldn’t even sleep last night thinking of you, please don’t blame her. Why must you always belittle her?” Levi cut in, taking Viviane’s hand and stroking it gently to soothe her.

Scarlett pressed her fingers to her temples, fighting back a wave of nausea. “Very well, I apologize. It is best if you all leave now. I am perfectly fine, and thank you for taking the time to visit,” she said, then slowly and with great effort tried to lie back down again.

Noticing Scarlett’s struggle, Viviane acted fast, trying to draw Levi’s attention away from where he had been gazing at Scarlett.

“Oh… my head… why does it suddenly feel so dizzy?” Viviane swayed, leaning her weight against Levi, who instinctively caught her. “I think it is from all the worry I’ve been feeling for my sister.”

“Viviane… what is wrong?” Levi asked, holding her body up in a panic.

‘Oh, curse it! Why does she have to do this now? I need to keep Scarlett’s attention before Damian tries to get close to her!’ Levi’s thoughts rang loud and clear in Scarlett’s mind, making her frown even deeper.

“Levi, perhaps you should help Viviane first. She looks quite unwell,” Scarlett said, effectively making the decision for him. Levi’s face hardened instantly.

He let out a cold snort. “Fine! Very well. I will take Viviane away from here so that you can be alone with Damian. Isn’t that exactly what you wanted?”

Damian raised an eyebrow briefly. Scarlett watched him closely, yet not a single thought crossed the mind of that handsome, composed man, nothing at all.

Damian let out an annoyed breath. “Levi, what is that supposed to mean? Mia is standing right here. Obviously we would not be left alone together. Besides, if you are leaving with Viviane, naturally I will go as well.”

“And anyway, Scarlett is awake now. That is enough,” Damian added calmly, speaking with perfect logic.

‘Yes… that is true. He has always remained calm and spoken such sensible, logical thoughts. Back then, I always found that attitude of his so infuriating. But now… it actually sounds far more reasonable than anything else I hear.’

Scarlett stretched out a hand toward Damian, who was standing furthest from the bed. “Damian… help me,” she said with a weary, bitter smile.

Seeing Scarlett extend her hand toward Damian, Viviane acted fast again. She let her body go limp and collapsed against Levi, noticing how irritated he looked at the sight.

“Damian, watch your manners! I am taking Viviane out of here. And you, you leave this room as well!” Levi barked.

Damian pulled back the hand he had begun to extend toward Scarlett, and once more lifted both hands in a gesture of surrender. “Of course. That would indeed be improper. I shall leave along with them,” he said, turning back to Scarlett. “I am sorry, Scarlett. I must go now. Please recover quickly.”

Scarlett nodded reluctantly. “Thank you.”

Damian walked out behind Levi, who was hurrying away while supporting Viviane’s weight. For a fleeting moment, Scarlett felt her heart beat wildly, as if it were about to leap right out of her chest, because Damian had looked straight into her eyes, deeply and intently, just before he vanished through the door.

At that moment, Scarlett understood one thing with absolute certainty.

She could not hear Damian’s thoughts. Not a single one. Only his.

‘Why?’

‘What is he really thinking?’

‘Why did he look at me like that?’

‘Is he truly the one chosen for me… or is he actually someone I should fear?’

Close to midnight, Scarlett felt faint vibrations of energy seeping through the cracks in her bedroom walls. She ran her hand along the inner wall of the dark passage and recognized Levi’s power lingering there.‘Thank goodness I still remember this room. It is the only space connected to the secret passages leading to the main hall and the clan’s hidden chambers. I suspect even Grandfather has forgotten these tunnels. My father was the one who built them, after all.’She moved slowly through the darkness, guided only by the pale glow of a flat white crystal held in her hand. Stopping at a fork in the passage, she sensed a sudden surge of energy coming from the direction of the great hall.‘Perfect. It looks like Levi has taken the bait and is moving exactly as I hoped. Thankfully I still had enough strength left to place new warning crystals along every wall in this section.’She turned and followed another branch of the passage until she found an old lever set into the wall. It look

‘I hope I can break through the barrier in Damian’s mind this time.’Scarlett clenched her hands tightly for a moment, steadying herself as she caught sight of Damian standing and waiting for her.She had come accompanied by Mia, who stood a short distance away in the garden on the west side of the Shadowmoon clan castle gates. This spot was rarely used for meetings or walks, as it lay far from the castle’s main entrance. She waved to Damian, who walked toward her with his usual upright, composed bearing."Why did you want to meet in a place like this, Scarlett?" Damian asked, going straight to the point."I am sorry to trouble you with coming here tonight. I could not speak openly after classes. You must know Grandfather has forbidden me from returning to the academy until the appointed day arrives," Scarlett replied, sounding awkward."It is no trouble. I was just..." Damian shifted his hands nervously and scratched his cheek, though there was no itch there. "I was surprised when I

Scarlett released her grip on Mia, her hands trembling slightly. "No. What I mean is... this... this..."She held out both palms toward Mia. "I can feel Damian’s energy and scent right here. So I thought... he was the one who helped me. Am I right? What exactly did he do? Tell me the truth, Mia."The fear and confusion on Mia’s face faded, replaced by a heavy sigh of relief.‘I was so worried she could read my mind. That would have been terrible. If Damian really was the first one to find her, I would never have been able to lie about it. She would have punished me, and she would have been so embarrassed.’Mia was right. Scarlett felt far more than embarrassment. Heat flooded her face and spread through every inch of her body. She pressed her hands to her temples and rubbed them slowly, trying to hide how flustered she truly was.‘Oh no. Damian found me first? And I was... in that state? How could I possibly face him after something like this? It is absolutely mortifying.’"Miss, are

Scarlett wiped the sweat from her face. She stumbled suddenly and nearly fell, catching herself quickly against the wall beside her.‘Oh, no. That spell drained too much of my energy.’ She stared at her hands, which were still trembling from the exertion.‘Why is it this bad? Is it because of this new mind reading ability I just gained? No. I have to learn to control it. Especially since I can feel Alea’s power growing weaker by the moment.’Suddenly, a sharp, distinct scent drifted toward her. Scarlett gasped and forced herself to move toward the hidden doorway behind the Moon Goddess statue. Through the crystal orb held in the statue’s hand, she caught a glimpse of Marcus and several Elders hurrying toward the main hall.‘This is bad. Did Grandfather sense the energy shift from the sacred scroll because of what I did? I have to get out of here now!’Her steps were heavy and unsteady, but she reached the passage entrance just as the heavy chains securing the main doors began to rattle

'Six more days.’Scarlett stood and gazed at the old almanac hanging on the wall. She ran her fingers over the thick, yellowed pages, marked with symbols shaped like sharp spikes, drawings of the moon in every phase, and complex calculations scrawled in between. She picked up a flat, smooth crystal stone from her table and called Mia’s name after tapping its surface once. Immediately, Mia’s face appeared as a clear reflection within the stone, looking back at her.“My Lady, is there anything else you require?” Mia asked, her voice carrying clearly through the magical link.“Nothing for now. If you have finished the task I gave you earlier, you may rest in my old chambers until dinner is served. Do not disturb me here until then.”Scarlett ended the connection as soon as she heard Mia’s obedient reply. She slipped the flat stone into a small pouch tied at her waist, then turned and began walking around the room, searching carefully.‘According to what I remember, somewhere within the wa

“Please...” Scarlett stepped between Levi and Damian, her arms outstretched toward both men.“Stop making a scene here. All I want is some peace and quiet.” She turned back to face Levi.“And you, Levi, if you are truly so confident your name is written there, you should not need to shout about it. You even accused anyone and everyone of being able to alter the names on that sacred scroll, as if the names are easy to change, when it is obvious they cannot be modified once set in place. Unless...” She paused.“Unless someone intentionally tried to change them...” She looked slowly at every person gathered there, one by one. “And usually, the person who immediately thinks of that possibility is the one who knows exactly what really happened.”Her words made everyone exchange meaningful glances, until all eyes settled on Levi. His jaw tightened, and he clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.Levi knew Scarlett was guiding everyone’s opinion to turn against him, and he was co
