‘Why am I suddenly trembling? Will things turn out differently this time compared to my past life?’

The main hall of the Shadowmoon Clan was filled with invited guests. The Elders sat in the front row, while students from the academy occupied the designated seats, serving as witnesses for the ceremony to select the Alpha’s prospective mate.

“Looks like Viviane just got scolded by Scarlett for dressing far more lavishly than her.”

“But Viviane really went overboard compared to Scarlett. It’s almost as if she is the main star of the event.”

Scarlett glanced sideways at Viviane upon hearing those whispers, her expression bored and indifferent. She’s already started her act, and it hasn’t even properly begun yet.

Scarlett scanned and recognized every detail of the place clearly. She remembered every corner of this room, every face that had witnessed the ruin of her reputation, and every word that had once made her feel proud, yet foolish. With such pride back then, she had spoken the name Levi Ashbourne—and foolishly, never realizing that very name would be the end of her life.

'Oh… my stomach? Why does it suddenly ache? Could it be because I’m thinking of Levi again?' Scarlett pressed her hand against her abdomen.

Her mind drifted back to her previous life, recalling how Viviane had purposely worn clothes that made her look plain and unkempt. People had whispered about the stark difference in their appearances, and Viviane had seized the opportunity to paint Scarlett as a selfish and cruel older sister.

This time, Viviane had done exactly the opposite—she wore a gown that was far more striking and attention-grabbing.

'Whatever her reasons, Viviane is clearly chasing attention. Maybe Levi’s, maybe the Elders’, or perhaps both. Who knows!' Scarlett was not about to guess without solid proof.

She walked toward the seat beside Marcus—her grandfather and the High Elder of the Shadowmoon Clan. She greeted him with a faint, graceful smile. Marcus returned the smile, but his gaze quickly shifted toward Viviane, who sat not far away.

Scarlett observed the irritation on her grandfather’s face as he looked at Viviane, even though she could not hear his thoughts. However, Scarlett’s attention was drawn to something else—something far more unsettling.

Something feels different and strange today. 'I have such a bad feeling about this.' Scarlett frowned deeply as she scanned the room.

Normally, she could sense the presence of others through their unique scents and energy. As a girl who possessed a wolf spirit, that heightened sensitivity was natural to her—all the more so because she was the chosen future Luna of the Shadowmoon Clan.

The hall, usually rich with various scents and distinct energy signatures, seemed to have lost much of its vibrancy. She could not perceive people’s presence as she normally did. Instead, unfamiliar voices kept rising in her mind.

'It’s such an important ceremony, why is Scarlett’s gown so plain? Is she trying to look humble on purpose?'

'Viviane looks absolutely beautiful today. She seems far more worthy of being our Luna!'

'Hope this ceremony doesn’t end in chaos like I heard it did last year.'

'No wonder it hasn’t started yet. It’s definitely because Scarlett is still waiting for Levi.'

'Why didn’t Scarlett dress as splendidly as Viviane? With such a plain appearance, can she really be relied upon as this Clan’s Luna? What a pity for Shadowmoon!'

Scarlett stiffened. Unconsciously, she straightened her back.

The thoughts came from all directions. The more crowded the room became, the louder and more chaotic they grew. She looked at the guests, yet no one appeared to be speaking; everyone sat silently, waiting. She clenched her hands in her lap, forcing her expression to remain calm and composed.

'So this isn’t a coincidence. I really can read people’s minds!'

Yet, this ability—something that should have been an advantage—only made her head throb and feel heavy. There were too many voices, too many prejudices, and too many secrets she was never meant to hear.

Scarlett breathed slowly, trying to stay calm. If she could not fully control this power yet, at the very least, she had to learn to filter out what was important, to find the evidence she needed. She tried to focus her attention entirely on Viviane.

For a moment, the other voices faded, replaced—though faintly—by her half-sister’s thoughts.

'Levi should have arrived by now. If everything goes according to plan, no one will ever be able to take him away from me.' Viviane glanced anxiously at the guests filling the hall.

Scarlett cast a quick look at Viviane. 'So Levi is still part of this game. Very well… this time I will find out exactly what his role is…'

Before she could probe any deeper, someone touched her shoulder lightly.

Scarlett jolted and stood up abruptly. Her movement was so sudden that her chair scraped loudly, drawing the attention of every guest in the hall.

Damian Carrington!

“What is wrong with you? Elder Marcus has been calling you for ages,” Damian stood beside her, looking at her in confusion.

Scarlett stared at Damian, realizing she had not sensed his presence at all until his hand touched her shoulder. This surprise made her even more alert. If her wolf senses were weakening, she could no longer rely on them to detect danger. Scarlett swallowed hard, feeling uneasy.

“I apologize,” Damian continued. “I didn’t mean to startle you.” He stepped back, keeping a respectful distance from her.

Scarlett composed herself before sitting back down. “It’s alright. I was just… lost in thought. Thank you for getting my attention.”

She studied Damian for a moment as he nodded in acknowledgement, trying to determine if he was hiding anything in his mind. But she heard no voice, no thought from him at all. Scarlett paused for a moment, her mind drifting again.

Empty. Damian isn’t thinking about anything. Or… could it be… She blinked rapidly, suppressing her growing anxiety.

Did her ability not work on everyone?

Or perhaps she had not yet mastered it and simply could not use it properly?

Then a terrifying thought struck her mind, making her heart race, 'Oh no… what if I can’t hear Levi’s thoughts either? If I can’t… how will I ever find the proof I need?'

‘I hope I can break through the barrier in Damian’s mind this time.’Scarlett clenched her hands tightly for a moment, steadying herself as she caught sight of Damian standing and waiting for her.She had come accompanied by Mia, who stood a short distance away in the garden on the west side of the Shadowmoon clan castle gates. This spot was rarely used for meetings or walks, as it lay far from the castle’s main entrance. She waved to Damian, who walked toward her with his usual upright, composed bearing."Why did you want to meet in a place like this, Scarlett?" Damian asked, going straight to the point."I am sorry to trouble you with coming here tonight. I could not speak openly after classes. You must know Grandfather has forbidden me from returning to the academy until the appointed day arrives," Scarlett replied, sounding awkward."It is no trouble. I was just..." Damian shifted his hands nervously and scratched his cheek, though there was no itch there. "I was surprised when I

Scarlett released her grip on Mia, her hands trembling slightly. "No. What I mean is... this... this..."She held out both palms toward Mia. "I can feel Damian’s energy and scent right here. So I thought... he was the one who helped me. Am I right? What exactly did he do? Tell me the truth, Mia."The fear and confusion on Mia’s face faded, replaced by a heavy sigh of relief.‘I was so worried she could read my mind. That would have been terrible. If Damian really was the first one to find her, I would never have been able to lie about it. She would have punished me, and she would have been so embarrassed.’Mia was right. Scarlett felt far more than embarrassment. Heat flooded her face and spread through every inch of her body. She pressed her hands to her temples and rubbed them slowly, trying to hide how flustered she truly was.‘Oh no. Damian found me first? And I was... in that state? How could I possibly face him after something like this? It is absolutely mortifying.’"Miss, are

Scarlett wiped the sweat from her face. She stumbled suddenly and nearly fell, catching herself quickly against the wall beside her.‘Oh, no. That spell drained too much of my energy.’ She stared at her hands, which were still trembling from the exertion.‘Why is it this bad? Is it because of this new mind reading ability I just gained? No. I have to learn to control it. Especially since I can feel Alea’s power growing weaker by the moment.’Suddenly, a sharp, distinct scent drifted toward her. Scarlett gasped and forced herself to move toward the hidden doorway behind the Moon Goddess statue. Through the crystal orb held in the statue’s hand, she caught a glimpse of Marcus and several Elders hurrying toward the main hall.‘This is bad. Did Grandfather sense the energy shift from the sacred scroll because of what I did? I have to get out of here now!’Her steps were heavy and unsteady, but she reached the passage entrance just as the heavy chains securing the main doors began to rattle

'Six more days.’Scarlett stood and gazed at the old almanac hanging on the wall. She ran her fingers over the thick, yellowed pages, marked with symbols shaped like sharp spikes, drawings of the moon in every phase, and complex calculations scrawled in between. She picked up a flat, smooth crystal stone from her table and called Mia’s name after tapping its surface once. Immediately, Mia’s face appeared as a clear reflection within the stone, looking back at her.“My Lady, is there anything else you require?” Mia asked, her voice carrying clearly through the magical link.“Nothing for now. If you have finished the task I gave you earlier, you may rest in my old chambers until dinner is served. Do not disturb me here until then.”Scarlett ended the connection as soon as she heard Mia’s obedient reply. She slipped the flat stone into a small pouch tied at her waist, then turned and began walking around the room, searching carefully.‘According to what I remember, somewhere within the wa

“Please...” Scarlett stepped between Levi and Damian, her arms outstretched toward both men.“Stop making a scene here. All I want is some peace and quiet.” She turned back to face Levi.“And you, Levi, if you are truly so confident your name is written there, you should not need to shout about it. You even accused anyone and everyone of being able to alter the names on that sacred scroll, as if the names are easy to change, when it is obvious they cannot be modified once set in place. Unless...” She paused.“Unless someone intentionally tried to change them...” She looked slowly at every person gathered there, one by one. “And usually, the person who immediately thinks of that possibility is the one who knows exactly what really happened.”Her words made everyone exchange meaningful glances, until all eyes settled on Levi. His jaw tightened, and he clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.Levi knew Scarlett was guiding everyone’s opinion to turn against him, and he was co

By now, everyone knew she had moved her quarters to the west wing of the palace, an area usually reserved for guests or those in seclusion. It looked as though Scarlett had chosen to isolate herself, punishing herself for some unknown reason.Levi watched as a line of servants, including Mia, carried Scarlett’s daily belongings and supplies toward that section of the palace. He stood nearby with several young men Scarlett knew from the academy, including Damian.“Why move your rooms all the way out here, Scarlett? Did Elder Marcus order you to?” Levi asked, his expression curious. “From what I know, these chambers are only used for seclusion and private prayer.”“Are you going there to pray that Levi’s name is the one written on that sacred scroll? Come now, Scarlett. Everyone already knows you are going to choose him anyway. What more is there left to pray for?” one of the other men spoke up.“Exactly. You should have just opened it right then and there…”“No, you are wrong. She neve
