Once it was clear that every guest had taken their seat, the whole room fell silent at Marcus’s signal.

“Very well, everyone, bear witness to the selection of the Alpha candidate, who shall stand beside my granddaughter Scarlett for all her days as her eternal mate, blessed by the Moon Goddess herself!” Marcus’s voice boomed, echoing to every corner of the chamber.

The dignified old man then led Scarlett up the high dais, toward the sacred stone table that stood next to a towering statue of the Moon Goddess, radiating a mesmerizing, magical aura.

Scarlett knelt at the very center of the altar circle, directly beneath the goddess’s watchful form. Marcus and the elders surrounded her, scattering silver flower petals over her head while chanting the invocation to the Moon Goddess.

Back then she had been so foolish and reckless, foolish enough to try to bend fate to her will. Whatever name had been written on that sacred scroll, she had planned to change it to Levi Ashbourne using forbidden magic the moment the parchment passed into her hands.

But now, in this second life, everything had changed. Things had been different from the very second she opened her eyes again.

‘Will the same name appear once more?’

Damian Carrington!

Before she knew it, that name had etched itself deep into her mind, turning into a sincere prayer she repeated endlessly, over and over.

Just then, the ritual reached its climax. The elders’ chants blended with a blinding white light that streamed down from the heavens, wrapping around the scroll resting on the stone table. The hall hummed with suppressed gasps as powerful waves of magic surged through the air.

Scarlett rose from her knees and walked slowly toward the altar table, fighting to keep her hands from trembling all the way to her fingertips. A split second before her fingers could touch the scroll hovering in midair, Levi’s cold voice cut straight into her mind.

‘It will be my name. Who else would you ever choose, Scarlett? There is no other man you love but me. So I’ll just pretend to accept it when Elder Marcus calls my name.’

Scarlett nearly smiled, yet that smile faded instantly. In this second life, nothing was certain anymore. Her heart pounded hard, suddenly struck by overwhelming fear. What if Levi’s name really is written there right now?

‘What should I do? Should I change it again? Or could it be… he secretly used magic to write his own name onto this scroll too?’

With hands shaking violently, Scarlett gripped the sacred parchment.

‘But I remember it clearly… back then, the name I saw was Damian Carrington. I was the one who changed it, and Grandfather helped me because he knew I was obsessed with Levi…’

“Why do you linger, child? Open the sacred scroll at once,” Elder Adnan commanded, breaking her out of her thoughts.

Scarlett looked from Adnan to the four other elders standing beside him. “Elder Adnan, please forgive me,” she said firmly. “I ask to delay this announcement.”

Boom!

Her words struck like lightning on a clear day. Gasps and wide, shocked eyes swept across the entire hall.

“Are you absolutely certain, Scarlett?” Marcus asked.

Scarlett nodded resolutely. “Yes, Grandfather. Please forgive me.”

“Wait, you cannot do that!” Viviane cut in, pushing her way forward with barely concealed fury. “The result should be announced now! You haven’t even opened it yet, what if someone has already tampered with fate?”

Viviane’s insinuation immediately sparked panic and dark accusations all around.

“She’s right! This delay could spell disaster for our pack!” Levi called out loudly. “If the mate chosen is not the true choice of the Goddess, destruction shall fall upon the Shadowmoon Pack!”

‘Dammit! If she delays this, I won’t get my title as Alpha tonight!’ Levi’s thoughts were loud and clear to Scarlett. ‘After all, I secretly wove my own name into the scroll with magic…’

In an instant, all the puzzle pieces from her past life clicked perfectly into place in Scarlett’s mind.

‘So it was true… Levi also deliberately forged our destiny back then. No wonder he was so arrogant that I would choose him! And with everyone knowing how obsessed I was with him, no one would ever question it.’

Seeing the chaos unfolding, Marcus acted swiftly. He took the sacred scroll back from Scarlett with a commanding motion, causing the parchment to float upward, out of anyone’s reach. Together with the elders, he began chanting a high-level protection spell.

“From this moment forth, this scroll is sealed with absolute silver magic. No power in existence, not even an Alpha King, can break through it. Nothing remains inside but Scarlett’s own heart and the blessing granted to her by the Goddess.” Marcus declared.

A shimmering circle of silver-white energy, marked with intricate patterns, wrapped tightly around the scroll as it hovered once more above the altar. Scarlett looked out across the entire hall with a coldness in her eyes that she had never shown before.

“In exactly seven days’ time, beneath the full moon, I shall open this scroll and bind my betrothal to the one who is truly destined for me.” Scarlett finished, speaking respectfully before everyone present.

Viviane smiled sweetly, but the venom in her thoughts screamed so loudly Scarlett could hear every word.

‘Go ahead and stall for time, you fool. Levi has already marked you with his magic inside that scroll. The moment that bond is formed, your wolf spirit will be shattered, and you will die under a terrible curse, Scarlett!’

Scarlett gave a faint smile, meeting her sister’s scheming gaze while her own mind burned with rage.

‘Keep dreaming, Viviane. In my past life, you both trapped me at my weakest point. But this time… I will make sure you pay for every single drop of my blood and every tear I shed!’

DRIP!Scarlett had been poring over the floating spellbooks before her for what felt like hours. She did not even notice the crimson liquid beginning to trickle from her nostrils until it had already slid down her upper lip.‘Oh, no! Did I skip a step in the incantation? Or did I speak the words incorrectly? Why did the magic turn against me?’ She wiped the blood away and pressed a hand to her chest, where a dull ache had begun to settle deep inside.‘I may have pushed myself too hard.’She turned her gaze toward the tall glass window, where the sky glowed with hues of deep red and golden yellow from the rising sun in the distance.‘Good heaven! No wonder I am exhausted. It is almost dawn. I need to get back to my room quickly. Mia will be here any minute now.’Scarlett hurried to return every book to its proper place on the shelves. She went so far as to reactivate every seal along the walls and the heavy door, restoring them exactly as they had been before. She knew full well that n

Close to midnight, Scarlett felt faint vibrations of energy seeping through the cracks in her bedroom walls. She ran her hand along the inner wall of the dark passage and recognized Levi’s power lingering there.‘Thank goodness I still remember this room. It is the only space connected to the secret passages leading to the main hall and the clan’s hidden chambers. I suspect even Grandfather has forgotten these tunnels. My father was the one who built them, after all.’She moved slowly through the darkness, guided only by the pale glow of a flat white crystal held in her hand. Stopping at a fork in the passage, she sensed a sudden surge of energy coming from the direction of the great hall.‘Perfect. It looks like Levi has taken the bait and is moving exactly as I hoped. Thankfully I still had enough strength left to place new warning crystals along every wall in this section.’She turned and followed another branch of the passage until she found an old lever set into the wall. It looke

‘I hope I can break through the barrier in Damian’s mind this time.’Scarlett clenched her hands tightly for a moment, steadying herself as she caught sight of Damian standing and waiting for her.She had come accompanied by Mia, who stood a short distance away in the garden on the west side of the Shadowmoon clan castle gates. This spot was rarely used for meetings or walks, as it lay far from the castle’s main entrance. She waved to Damian, who walked toward her with his usual upright, composed bearing."Why did you want to meet in a place like this, Scarlett?" Damian asked, going straight to the point."I am sorry to trouble you with coming here tonight. I could not speak openly after classes. You must know Grandfather has forbidden me from returning to the academy until the appointed day arrives," Scarlett replied, sounding awkward."It is no trouble. I was just..." Damian shifted his hands nervously and scratched his cheek, though there was no itch there. "I was surprised when I r

Scarlett released her grip on Mia, her hands trembling slightly. "No. What I mean is... this... this..."She held out both palms toward Mia. "I can feel Damian’s energy and scent right here. So I thought... he was the one who helped me. Am I right? What exactly did he do? Tell me the truth, Mia."The fear and confusion on Mia’s face faded, replaced by a heavy sigh of relief.‘I was so worried she could read my mind. That would have been terrible. If Damian really was the first one to find her, I would never have been able to lie about it. She would have punished me, and she would have been so embarrassed.’Mia was right. Scarlett felt far more than embarrassment. Heat flooded her face and spread through every inch of her body. She pressed her hands to her temples and rubbed them slowly, trying to hide how flustered she truly was.‘Oh no. Damian found me first? And I was... in that state? How could I possibly face him after something like this? It is absolutely mortifying.’"Miss, are y

Scarlett wiped the sweat from her face. She stumbled suddenly and nearly fell, catching herself quickly against the wall beside her.‘Oh, no. That spell drained too much of my energy.’ She stared at her hands, which were still trembling from the exertion.‘Why is it this bad? Is it because of this new mind reading ability I just gained? No. I have to learn to control it. Especially since I can feel Alea’s power growing weaker by the moment.’Suddenly, a sharp, distinct scent drifted toward her. Scarlett gasped and forced herself to move toward the hidden doorway behind the Moon Goddess statue. Through the crystal orb held in the statue’s hand, she caught a glimpse of Marcus and several Elders hurrying toward the main hall.‘This is bad. Did Grandfather sense the energy shift from the sacred scroll because of what I did? I have to get out of here now!’Her steps were heavy and unsteady, but she reached the passage entrance just as the heavy chains securing the main doors began to rattle

'Six more days.’Scarlett stood and gazed at the old almanac hanging on the wall. She ran her fingers over the thick, yellowed pages, marked with symbols shaped like sharp spikes, drawings of the moon in every phase, and complex calculations scrawled in between. She picked up a flat, smooth crystal stone from her table and called Mia’s name after tapping its surface once. Immediately, Mia’s face appeared as a clear reflection within the stone, looking back at her.“My Lady, is there anything else you require?” Mia asked, her voice carrying clearly through the magical link.“Nothing for now. If you have finished the task I gave you earlier, you may rest in my old chambers until dinner is served. Do not disturb me here until then.”Scarlett ended the connection as soon as she heard Mia’s obedient reply. She slipped the flat stone into a small pouch tied at her waist, then turned and began walking around the room, searching carefully.‘According to what I remember, somewhere within the wa
