OCTAVIA.

I was in the kitchen, preparing dinner. Pot roast with plenty of delicious vegetables. It was one of my special recipes. We also made some Hasselback potatoes, maple-bacon Brussels Sprouts, and homemade bread.

Lunch had just finished, so the kitchen workers were split into two different groups. Some were cleaning up the mess and putting leftovers away. The others were cooking dinner with me.

‘Cooking is like painting or writing a song. Just as there are only so many notes or colors, there are only so many flavors – it’s how you combine them that sets you apart.’ – Wolfgang Puck.

I'd always thought the Austrian chef, Wolfgang Puck, had a beautiful way of explaining the art of cooking.

The kitchen was where I could lose myself in the task at hand. It was where I exerted the control that I was normally denied. Yes, I could get lost while doing chores, but this was different. I thoroughly enjoyed creating delicious food. It was the only part of my day that I looked forward to. C

  • Rise of the Phoenix Wolf   Chapter 21

OCTAVIA.I wasn’t certain how I should be feeling about everything. The truth finally came to light, but it didn’t change the past other than to clear Dad’s name.I still couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that I believed in the lie that Alpha Richard claimed as fact. I knew Dad better than that, and I was ashamed that I doubted his character, doubted his integrity. Perhaps I wouldn’t have believed the lie if it wasn’t for Mom corroborating it. Honestly, I just never imagined a scenario where she would lie. It hadn’t even occurred to me that she was under an Alpha command.People’s eyes were drawn to me upon hearing the truth. Guilty expressions, whether earnest or not, lingered on their faces. I didn’t react, instead keeping a mask of indifference on my face. There was a difference between them and me even though we all believed the lie. I NEVER would’ve hurt someone at all, like they did to Mom and to me. I never would’ve hurled insults, fists, or anything else. At least the Omeg

  • Rise of the Phoenix Wolf   Chapter 20

ROMAN.There was a lot that needed to be done in this pack. The past two days have been spent combing through everything. Investigations were carried out, documentation was collected, and we’d been getting a clearer picture of the Blood Lake pack. However, there was still a long way to go.Normally, I would’ve jumped right into the middle of it all and dug my way to the bottom of everything. However, it wasn’t that simple. Not this time because I had a mate who needed medical attention. It was common knowledge that the mate-bond could help to heal mates. So, I needed to be by her side. Thus, I had to rely on others, which was an odd experience to say the least. My people were very capable, but it didn’t mean that I wasn’t feeling pulled in two different directions. Cleaning up the pack on the one hand and doing everything that I could do to support my mate on the other hand.“I would like to ask you something. I want you to be completely honest with me about what you want to do, not w

  • Rise of the Phoenix Wolf   Chapter 19

OCTAVIA.Alpha Roman’s jaw ticked, and his fists clenched tight. It was easy to see just how much tension was running through him. Now that I was tuned into the bond, I could feel the heat of fury that radiated from within. However, I knew that it wasn’t aimed at me.It had been such a long time since I had anyone on my side. I wasn’t certain how I would feel about that. Did it make me a horrible person to question everything?Storm shook her head and nuzzled me in our shared mindspace. She had been the one positive constant in my life. Never had I experienced her disapproval or judgment. Not in me at least. She had always been a steady source of support and comfort.“First and foremost, his title will be stripped from him. He’ll be officially exiled before he’s taken into custody of the Werewolf Council. They will take him to the Council grounds where he’ll be interrogated until every detail is found, every connection is discovered. People like him have plenty of skeletons in their c

  • Rise of the Phoenix Wolf   Chapter 18

OCTAVIA.He said that Farah was his mate.My eyes darted over to the healer and then to Alpha Roman because she was his healer. It meant that they were all connected somehow. That revelation led me to worry about what was actually going on.What would they do if they didn’t like my answer? Uncle Rob had never been anything other than loving towards me, treating me as family even if there was absolutely no blood connection between us. However, that was before the past six years taught me that anyone could change.‘Breathe,’ Storm encouraged me. ‘You don’t have to trust him or any of them. Tell me something. Have I ever steered you wrong before?’My response was an immediate no because she never had.‘Then trust me. I’d never tell you that they were safe to be around if they weren’t. I’m not certain why I feel that way, but I do. It’s the same thing that I feel with Marjorie. Open your senses to feel the bond that exists between Mate and us. Lips can lie, but emotions don’t.’My eyes sw

  • Rise of the Phoenix Wolf   Chapter 17

ROMAN.Alpha Richard didn’t appreciate being treated like the trash that he was. The same way that he treated my mate, because it gave him some sick satisfaction. Shocking, I know. What he hated more was how weak he looked in front of his pack as he was led into a ballroom where most of his pack was located. He was handcuffed like a criminal. The cuffs prevented him from being able to mindlink anyone. It also cut him off from his wolf, meaning that he was unable to roll off an Alpha command. It didn’t prevent his previous commands from sticking, but it was better than nothing. His son was also cuffed. He was lucky to be breathing after what I caught him doing. Immediate gratification, as I’d come to realize, was only satisfied for a moment and didn’t have a lasting impact. Plus, I believed that Octavia had the right to weigh in on his punishment. She was the harmed party after all.Even after everything, that same air of arrogance surrounded him like a cloak. His chin was raised in de

  • Rise of the Phoenix Wolf   Chapter 16

ROMAN.I asked Majorie to show us to a room where we would not be interrupted. Alpha Amir accompanied us as well. He needed to know, just like I did, what was happening in this pack.It was our responsibility, me as Regent and him as a member of the Council, to deliver justice for the wrongdoings here. We had to punish those who harmed others while also protecting the innocent. It didn’t matter what was allowed by their Alpha. There were clear laws about the abuse of others. The Werewolf Council didn’t tolerate it.She led us to a small conference room. The door was closed behind us. Warriors were posted up on the other side of it to ensure that nobody interrupted us. This way also protected her because her pack would clearly see this as her going against Alpha Richard. In other words, they would see it as treason even if that wasn’t the case. I’d do everything in my power to protect her, especially given the fact that she had pleaded for me to protect Octavia.Alpha Amir introduced h
