Rise of the Sigma
Rise of the Sigma
Author: Ry Sprakenheim

Prologue

Bodies were scattered everywhere. These cadavers are soaked with their own blood. Men, women… children.

The brute howling of the wind is so eerie that it feels like the souls of these dead people are screaming for help.

As Viktor walks through the swamp of blood and cadaver, he draws his sword made of silver.

He cautiously watches his every step, like he is walking in a pond of landmine.

Whoever did this is not of human capability, he thought to himself.

Each dead body died differently. Some cadavers lack a certain body part. Some were strangled and some were brutally beaten and stabbed.

Viktor senses that he is not alone and that someone or something is just waiting to attack. Like a predator inching, and waiting for the perfect timing to launch a strike.

As he approaches near the center of the swamp of bodies, he notices a glowing fountain. There are fireflies everywhere. It feels like these beautiful creatures want to warn him of a danger coming. He finally reaches the fountain and to his shock, he sees that it is not water that flows thru the fountain, but blood.

His head started to hurt again as he feels the presence of that something getting closer. His head hurts so bad that he has dropped his silver sword and knelt with one knee.

Something has entered his mind, a scene that he could not understand if it is a memory or a premonition.

He closes his eyes and sees someone going ravage and tearing apart people’s bodies with bare hands. Then he hears somebody calling his name. A woman trying to reach for him dressed in a black cult dress. But before the woman touches him the ravaging entity plunges his hands through the scrawny body, piercing through her chest. Its’ hands went through her chest and grabbed her heart out.

This beast is indomitable.

Blood rolls down Viktor’s eyes rather than tears without realizing it because he was petrified of the cruelty and savageness he had just witnessed before his eyes.

The woman fell to the ground.

She whispers. “Viktor,…Viktor,… nisi te Ipsum.”(save yourself)

She said this with her last breath as the beast crushes her heart.

The woman exploded as her heart was crushed.

Her body exploded into glowing particles. The glowing particles were scattered by the violent breeze of the wind.

A part of it touches Viktor’s forehead.

Viktor opened his eyes and came back to his senses because of this glowing warm particle. He reaches to his forehead and took it. He sees a firefly but it is so warm, different from a normal one.

It felt like all was in slow motion, a time freeze.

As he recovers his consciousness, he did not realize that the entity picked up his silver sword.

Using all his brute force, the ferocious being swung the sword-slashing him in the neck.

At this moment, Viktor felt the blade of his sword slicing through his neck, and then he blacks out.

“So, this is it, is this for real?”

Everything lightens up and he totally lost consciousness.

Seeing Rio losing his calmness, Deadrei slaps him in the face.

Rio had slipped his hands away from the crystal ball.

Rio opens up his eyes instantly and takes a deep breath as if he had been resuscitated back to life.

“Ouch!” Rio spills his first word after he had fully regained consciousness.

“What is that for?”

“You should thank me instead of complaining like a child. If I had not slapped you. You would be dead by now for your soul will be trapped inside that event in time.” Deadrei explains nervously.

“It felt so real. It’s like I was really there. The scent of blood. The screaming restless souls of the dead. The howling of the wind and even that woman. I thought I have been decapitated with the very sword that I have carried.” Rio murmured to himself in total disbelief and confusion.

“Did you saw it?” Deadrei asks him frantically.

“What does it look like? Tell me what happened.” Deadrei continued to ask Rio, so eager that she had raised her tone unintentionally.

Rio looked at her for a few moments and exhaled heavily.

“I am still confused. I saw it all but I still don’t understand. I...” He was interrupted by Deadrei all of a sudden.

Deadrei covers his mouth before he can even finish.

“They found us.”  She whispers to him.

Rio rips off his shirt as he attempts to transform into something but Deadrei stopped him.

“You know I can take them altogether.” He confidently tells Deadrei.

“No! There are too many of them. It is not the right time. Innocent lives are going to be sacrificed if we fight now” Deadrei speaks in a low frightened tone.

Though Rio seemed to be a little upset he calmed himself down.

“Follow me and let us lure them out of the camp.” She suggested to him.

“It is better that they chase us in the woods so that everyone can move to a safer place while these Lycans come after us.”

Rio nods and puts on a dark leather jacket.

The two went to through the backdoor of the tent.

They saw armed men searching the place.

“Bring them out! Bring them to me!” Brutus exclaims harshly, punching an old man in the stomach.

Brutus and his men are destroying everything. Searching every tent throwing people outside.

Deadrei and Rio patiently watch them. But when Brutus takes a little girl as a hostage, Rio cannot just take it anymore.

“Come out here or I will tear this child apart in front of her people! I know you are here. I can smell your stench in the air.” He is trying to threaten them to come out.

When Brutus looks like he is going to do it, Rio shouts from the distance.

“Let her go, you filthy slave.” He completely shows himself to them. He looks up in the night sky and sees the full moon emerging as the clouds slowly revealing it. He removes his leather jacket and started to transform into a hairy hideous-looking beast.

Brotus and his men also started to transform but their appearance looks different from what Rio has become.

Rio stands out from the rest of these creatures for he is much larger and fiercer to look at.

He roared like thunder and howled like a wolf. Brutus and his men rushed towards him simultaneously. Rio was outnumbered but he slashes several of them in their throat with just one strike of his long claws. He then went for the grey-colored werewolf and strangled it with two hands. It was Brutus, Rio devoured him by starting to gnaw his head. After watching Rio savagely devours their leader, his men run for their lives and retreated.

Rio howls again and terror has taken over every living normal person who had seen what had just happened.

Deadrei was in shock and cannot utter a single word as Rio transformed back into human form.
