(Kanyon's POV)

I stretched my arms, feeling the bones crack in my joints as my eyes wandered toward the window. The sun was already beginning to set, casting that hazy winter-evening feeling over the pack house.

I looked back down at the papers on my desk. I'd managed to finish them despite the gnawing feeling that Athena was still angry with me.

I ran a hand through my hair. I knew Athena still held a grudge against the witches.

I did too.

They'd killed our parents, Katie, Nikolia's sister, an

(Tyra's POV)The sun had already set, and I was glad Kanyon hadn't come looking for me in the library. The last thing I wanted was to face him.My chest tightened as I remembered Athena and Nikolia's argument. They wouldn't be like that if I just had a wolf and Kanyon was only trying to help me.I closed the book I'd been reading after bookmarking the page. I stood up and headed back to my room. I stripped off my clothes and changed into a warm nightdress.A knock sounded at the door and Freya walked in seconds later with a tray in her hands."Your dinner." She bowed slightly."Thank you. I'll eat on the balcony."I grabbed a blanket and headed outside with Freya following behind me.I sat down and ate quietly, ignoring the chill winter air that blew past every now and then."Are you alright, Miss Lily?" Freya asked quietly.I looked ahead at the gardens. The warm lights from the windows of the houses across painted patches of gold across the snowy grounds. To be honest, I wasn't sure

I'd managed to finish them despite the gnawing feeling that Athena was still angry with me.I ran a hand through my hair. I knew Athena still held a grudge against the witches.I did too. They'd killed our parents, Katie, Nikolia's sister, and several others in our pack. Hell, I still hated them. But just this once, I had to ask for their help.Lily needed it.I needed it.Lily needed to awaken her wolf so she could feel the mate bond and acknowledge me as her mate. And if a miracle happened, she might even remember her past and become fully healed. It was important. For Lily. For the pack. For me.I pushed my chair back and stood up, leaving my office and making my way to the dining room for dinner.Athena and Nikolia weren't at th

(Tyra's POV)I stayed in my room for the rest of the day. I didn't know how I was supposed to face Athena or Kanyon knowing that Kanyon was risking everything, even his relationship with his sister, for me.Freya had already brought me dinner, so there was no reason for me to leave my room anymore. I just hoped Kanyon wouldn't come to check on me tonight.I changed into my nightdress and got into bed.I also had to eat breakfast with them tomorrow.I groaned.Should I just fake being sick? No, I'd already used that excuse today. And even if I did, I'm sure Kanyon would come to check on me again.I stared at the ceiling. Now I didn't even know what to do anymore.I'd just have to endure breakfast. It was only a few minutes. It couldn't be that bad.I turned onto my side and fell asleep soon after.I woke up to a knock on my door."Come in."Freya stepped inside. "Good morning, Miss Lily.""Good morning, Freya."I sat up while she went to run my bath. I still had to endure breakfast tod

(Tyra's POV)I watched as Freya walked out of my room with the empty tray of plates.I was so glad Kanyon had bought my lie. I did feel a little bad, but it wasn't entirely my fault, right? I just needed an excuse to avoid him.Even while trying to avoid him, he came looking for me.I fell back onto the bed and covered my face with my hands. There was no avoiding Kanyon. He was the Alpha. He'd saved me. He cared about me, obviously because I was his friend and he was just looking out for me.He'd do the same for anyone. He was just naturally kind. I stared at the ceiling. Why did I feel this lightness in my chest whenever I saw him?Why did I feel sparks whenever we touched? Why did his scent always have such a calming effect on me?I shook my head. I was thinking too much about it. I pushed myself off the bed and headed out of my room.I knew Kanyon told me to rest, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.I'd finish the book I was reading last night and go back to my room before h

(Kanyon's POV)"She fell asleep... she fell asleep on us... she fell—""I heard you the first time. Shut up." I let out a breath as I stared at Lily's closed door."Do you know what that means?""She was tired.""Why do I even bother with you?" Jace huffed, rolling his eyes."I should get some rest too," I muttered as I turned and headed to my room.I was exhausted anyway. All I wanted was to sleep, wake up and deal with tomorrow.I ran a hand through my hair as a yawn escaped me.Lily had fallen asleep on my shoulder.A small smile spread across my face. She'd looked so peaceful. She didn't look like someone who deserved whatever she'd gone through before stumbling into my pack. She was strong. That was one thing I was sure of.She'd made tea for the sick maids which I had to admit was incredibly kind and thoughtful of her. She'd also worried about me. I loved seeing that side of her the most. The side that showed she cared. My smile slowly faded.I wasn't sure how long this side of

  • Rogue Hearts   Chapter Fifty-Three

(Tyra's POV)The morning sun settled warmly against my face.I frowned slightly and rolled over to the other side of the bed before opening my eyes.It was already morning.I sat up slowly, my gaze sweeping over the room. Then I looked down at myself, I was still wearing yesterday's clothes. My brows creased. I always changed before going to bed. I didn't remember walking to my room either. In fact, I didn't even remember leaving the library.I was reading on the sofa by the fireplace when Kanyon joined me...I can start volunteering at the hospital.A smile slowly spread across my face.At least I'll get to be useful and help out. And maybe more of my memories will return before seeing Heather.Maybe I'll remember my best friend. The man I had a secret relationship with. Why I was shot with an arrow.Who poisoned me with wolfsbane and wanted me dead. And why I had this mark on my neck.My hand slowly rose to the mark. Maybe I could get it removed. If that was even possible.A knock s
