CHAPTER FOUR

Marie's POV

Be my Fiancee for one week?

That sounded like the kind of things that I read in romance books.

You know, stories where the woman agrees, and then she ends up falling in love with the man.

This is reality. Things like that don't happen.

“Uh, I appreciate whatever it is you're offering, Mr, But I'd rather be behind that counter before Brandon comes at me.”

“He wouldn't be stupid enough to do that while you're standing here,” he said with authority.

“Please I have other tables to attend to, I'd appreciate it if…”

“Two hundred thousand dollars for a week, Marie. You simply have to act like my fiancee and not resist me.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I mean it. You'll be out of this gutter of a place and—”

I pulled my hand away from him in one swift movement and walked off, my face hot from embarrassment.

Was it so clear that I was poor?

Did he really assume he could just come in here and buy me off?

I had a job. A life. A broken heart to nurse back to health and….well, a house that I hadn't been able to pay for recently?

I reached the counter and didn't see Brandon. I breathed a sigh of relief as I settled on one of the bar stools.

My eyes stayed on Ryan Cole and his friend. They were talking now.

I didn't know what they were talking about but Pete was smiling.

Tears started to well in my eyes again.

I didn't know why, but it was getting more difficult to keep the tears back by the minute.

I reached into my apron and pulled out my cellphone.

There was a message sitting in the phone.

A message from my landlord: TOLD YA YOU'D GET YOUR ASS OUT OF MY PROPERTY IF YOU DON'T PAY UP IN ANOTHER DAY.

What the hell?

I didn't even have anywhere to go. Nancy wasn't my friend anymore and Callum was definitely not part of my life anymore.

The tears came in hot torrents. I was sobbing uncontrollably, my shoulders shaking violently as I lowered my head.

But then I heard Brandon speaking to someone close by and my head snapped up.

I wiped my face and stood up straight.

I needed to take that deal from Ryan Cole, whatever it was.

If a billionaire wanted to buy my time for a few days and pay me enough to never have to work for Brandon anymore, why was my pride standing in the way?

Just then, I saw Ryan Cole and his friend rising from their seats. They had not even opened the wine.

I literally ran. I needed to take the offer. It was my only lifeline at this point.

“Sir!” I called.

The bar went silent and all eyes fastened on me.

I walked to them. My legs felt like jelly but I needed to do this.

I heard Brandon swearing behind me and I heard Callum ask someone what was going on.

I reached Ryan Cole and whispered,

“I'll take the deal.”

He nodded once.

“I was expecting you to,” he said with a small smile.

He reached inside his breast pocket and fetched his card.

RYAN COLE. CEO, TURNIP CORPS.

He handed it to me.

“I'll have you picked up tomorrow.”

And without saying another word, sauntered out of the bar with his smiling friend.

I walked back towards the counter, Brandon was standing there, fuming.

“Bran, I…”

“You incompetent bitch, what did you do this time?” He demanded.

What?

“What did I do?”

“Don't ask me stupid questions.”

He took my hand and disappeared with me behind the counter.

“Why didn't they touch their wine? And why didn't they seem pleased? I told you not to mess anything up!”

“I didn't mess anything up. They probably didn't like your most expensive wine so they left it untouched,” I said.

They hadn't been impressed with the drink. Maybe I was right.

“I know you, Marie. You probably did something wrong.”

I sighed. I didn't have the mental or physical strength to get into another argument with Brandon.

“I'm so sorry you thought I did something. I didn't. And, well, you just got a free bottle of Lundois. That should make you happy.”

Knowing how greedy he was, he should have been happy that they paid and left the item untouched.

He was still looking at me, trying to make sense of what had transpired between me and the CEO.

“Bran…can I take one week off? You can deduct as much of my money as you want. I just need to get away for one week.”

“Why?” He demanded.

“For—”

“So you can go whoring?” He asked, cutting me off.

I blinked. Where did he get that from?

“Let me tell you,” he breathed, his fat face coming so close to mine I could smell his bad breath. “You think you're going to do well as a whore because you have a pretty face and a nice ass? Well go try and see how much success you can achieve.”

I was still reeling from the shock of Brandon's accusation when he said,

“Pack your things and leave. You are fired.”

CHAPTER FIVE Marie's POV If Ryan Cole didn't show up the next day or send people to come for me the next day, I was fucked. My life had just gotten more complicated in the past twenty four hours. Before Ryan Cole, I had a stable job. Brandon was toxic and he hated me, but he let me have my job for over two years. Now that was gone. I was home now. Tired from all the cruelty I'd had to deal with in just one day. The electricity had been disconnected from my room because I hadn't paid up the bill. And I didn't have water running in my apartment. This was classic rock bottom. This was probably the point where people gave up completely. I dropped on my bed, kicked off my shoes and decided it was the best time to cry. But I didn't cry. I just lay staring at the dark ceiling. The only source of light I had in the room was the light from the streets streaming in through the window. Ryan Cole. The man looked like he had stepped out of an exotic magazine. He had everything that w

CHAPTER THREE Marie's POV It was bad enough that I was walking around serving tables with tears threatening to drop off my eyes, and with Brandon constantly cussing me out. I didn't want any more troubles for the day. But Ryan fucking Cole did not stop looking in my direction once he saw me. Brandon came to me as I stood behind the counter preparing the order of a customer.“Listen, girl,” he said in that ugly voice of his, “There's something more important you're going to have to do now.”“I'm preparing an order, Bran. Unless you want some woman screaming down this place, then there's nothing more important than this order I'm preparing.”Brandon was looking at me, his mouth open.“Where did you buy the guts to talk to me that way?”“I'm just saying…”“Don't get into a fight with Brandon now, Marie,” Nancy said from behind. I didn't realize she was back on duty. Right after fucking my boyfriend, she was telling me what to do.“Fuck you! You cheap ass whoring bitch!” I screamed

CHAPTER TWO Chapter TwoRyan Cole “There are very few things I can tolerate, Pete,” I said to my best friend as I leaned into the not-so-soft cushion of the bar we'd found ourselves in.“Just do what the old man wants,” Pete advised. This was like the third time he was advising me to just do what my father wanted. “I can't say you've been helpful with your counsel, Pete.”“I don't see another way out of this,” he maintained. “Is that why you brought me to a cheap bar with tough chairs?” I demanded. Pete genuinely looked amused.“The bar is not cheap and the chairs are not that hard unless you're trying to get too comfortable.”A fat man with tiny red eyes came to our table. He was well dressed.“Good afternoon, gentlemen. Welcome to Quinns Bar. I'm Brandon and I'm happy to serve you,” he said. His smile was too wide. His face was too fat and…Damn it. Everything was pissing me off. “We'll let you know when we want something,” Pete said. The man nodded and walked off. My prob

CHAPTER ONEMarie's POV It would have been a little better if I wasn't working at the same place with my boyfriend, Callum. Knowing that you got cheated on, and seeing that you got cheated on are two entirely different things. Maybe if I'd just heard it, I'd have forgiven Callum, but I caught him with Nancy, another colleague, at the worst possible time and place. My boyfriend for three years was sleeping with my only friend at work, during their short break time. I stood at the door of the storage room, my mouth wide open as I looked at them. “Damn it, Marie, why are you acting like such a creep? You look like you’re going to freak out.” Callum asked the moment they sprang apart. He was zipping his trousers and tucking his shirt as I watched. Nancy had only had to lift her skirts and bend over a table. She was arranging her clothes now, completely avoiding my eyes. “Freak out? I haven't even said anything,” I rasped. There was a thick lump in my throat and it made speaking

  • Roleplaying with the billionaire    Prologue

“You made it to my bedroom, little one,” Ryan Cole growled as we got into the undeniably huge master bedroom in the penthouse.Made it indeed.“First, I'd appreciate it if you stopped calling me ‘little one’ and just refer to me as Marie,” I said. “And second?” He asked, his eyebrow coming up. “And what's it with making it to your bedroom? The arrangement demands that I sleep here anyway.”He walked off from me, stopped at the vanity and started taking off his cufflinks. I stood there watching him, not exactly sure what I was supposed to be doing while I was still in the insanely expensive wedding dress. “Little one sounds like something really…medieval,” I muttered. He walked back to me. “Let's get you out of that dress, little one.”There. He said it again. But I was going to be a good actress who was paid well enough to do her job, and I'll just pretend he didn't coin that nauseous pet name for me. “Fine, help me out of it,” I offered. He came closer, looming over me, his
