CHAPTER THREE

Marie's POV

It was bad enough that I was walking around serving tables with tears threatening to drop off my eyes, and with Brandon constantly cussing me out.

I didn't want any more troubles for the day.

But Ryan fucking Cole did not stop looking in my direction once he saw me.

Brandon came to me as I stood behind the counter preparing the order of a customer.

“Listen, girl,” he said in that ugly voice of his, “There's something more important you're going to have to do now.”

“I'm preparing an order, Bran. Unless you want some woman screaming down this place, then there's nothing more important than this order I'm preparing.”

Brandon was looking at me, his mouth open.

“Where did you buy the guts to talk to me that way?”

“I'm just saying…”

“Don't get into a fight with Brandon now, Marie,” Nancy said from behind. I didn't realize she was back on duty.

Right after fucking my boyfriend, she was telling me what to do.

“Fuck you! You cheap ass whoring bitch!” I screamed at her. Good thing the customers couldn't hear us once we were behind the counter.

Because right then, I turned around, going off straight to her. I was blind with rage, but Brandon was done being too stunned to move.

He grabbed my hand with his fat one and pulled me back.

“Marie! What's this madness? Are you totally mad now?”

“Bran…she was literally…”

“For that show of animosity, you've just lost two hundred dollars of your payment.”

“What?!”

“You know you can't be acting mad around here without paying for it. We have some high class men in this bar now and you want to fuck up our chances of impressing them?”

Of course, the high class men he was talking about was Ryan Cole and the other man he went almost everywhere with.

I'd seen Ryan Cole too many times on TV and seen him in magazines to not know who he was.

Billionaire. Privileged man who was a force in the financial world.

“So you're taking my money, Bran? You don't even know what she did or why I've been mad all afternoon.”

“Knowing why you're mad is not part of my job as your manager, Marie. If you're going to make me stop calling you an incompetent bitch, you're going to have to work extra hard to prove yourself.”

“You don't even pay me well enough to comfortably handle my bills. I do my best and yet—”

“They're calling for you, Marie,” Brandon interrupted quickly.

He was wearing that plastic smile he usually wore when he wanted to impress clients like the ones who were now looking towards the counter. Ryan Cole and his friend.

“Ryan Cole wants you to serve his table. You're going to go there and get their orders and you're going to attend to them with the right attitude.”

Why were they calling for me?

Oh god. How bad could this one day get?

“I'm trying to get this order out,” I tried to argue.

“Nancy will get it. You just hurry along.”

Tears had started to form in my eyes again.

I had just lost two hundred fucking dollars of my pay and I couldn't even afford my rent.

I walked to the table in a daze. I needed to find a safe spot and cry my eyes out.

The day kept getting worse by the hour and I couldn't wait for my shift to be over.

“Good afternoon, Gentlemen,” I greeted in my hoarse voice once I reached the table.

I would not lie. Ryan Cole was probably the first man on the list of Glendale's most eligible bachelors.

He was tall and lean. So well toned that one could see the contours of his back and his arms and even his thighs through his suit.

And that suit probably cost more than everything Brandon ever owned.

More like, everything I'd ever touched.

He had a slight frown on his face and his friend had a bright smile on his face.

“Good afternoon, Miss,” the friend greeted. “My name is Pete, what's your name?” He asked.

Okay, that was not usual. Customers didn't ask for names here and we didn't wear uniforms that carried our names on them, why was he asking?

And why was Ryan Cole frowning?

If he left me a bad comment or review, I would probably be losing my job.

“My name is Marie,” I said, facing Ryan Cole now and forcing a smile.

“He's going to get the order,” he said stiffly, as if ordering me to get my attention back to Pete.

“What's the most expensive wine you have?” Pete asked.

“Lundois, eighteen thousand dollars.”

“He didn't ask for the cheapest,” Ryan cut in.

I blinked.

Eighteen fucking thousand dollars sounded like ‘cheap’ to him?

“I didn't mention the cheapest sir,” I said calmly.

“Let's have Lundois,” Pete said.

I walked off to go and get the order. My legs were trembling slightly because I knew the brooding Ryan Cole had his eyes on me.

Once I got back to the counter, Brandon was standing there with an eager smile.

“What do they want?”

“Lundois,” I replied dryly.

“The last time we sold a Lundois was three months ago! Hurry, get it to them.”

I rolled my eyes before preparing the order.

I headed back to the table.

I placed the order and the glasses on the table, and as I bowed slightly and made to leave, but Ryan Cole's hand shot out and grabbed one of mine.

What the fuck?

Why did my body suddenly respond to the touch, my nipples perking immediately?

“Sir….” I started to protest, warning bells going off in my head.

“Little one, I'll pay you more than that fat fellow could ever pay you. Be my fiancee for one week.”

CHAPTER FIVE Marie's POV If Ryan Cole didn't show up the next day or send people to come for me the next day, I was fucked. My life had just gotten more complicated in the past twenty four hours. Before Ryan Cole, I had a stable job. Brandon was toxic and he hated me, but he let me have my job for over two years. Now that was gone. I was home now. Tired from all the cruelty I'd had to deal with in just one day. The electricity had been disconnected from my room because I hadn't paid up the bill. And I didn't have water running in my apartment. This was classic rock bottom. This was probably the point where people gave up completely. I dropped on my bed, kicked off my shoes and decided it was the best time to cry. But I didn't cry. I just lay staring at the dark ceiling. The only source of light I had in the room was the light from the streets streaming in through the window. Ryan Cole. The man looked like he had stepped out of an exotic magazine. He had everything that w

CHAPTER FOUR Marie's POV Be my Fiancee for one week? That sounded like the kind of things that I read in romance books. You know, stories where the woman agrees, and then she ends up falling in love with the man. This is reality. Things like that don't happen.“Uh, I appreciate whatever it is you're offering, Mr, But I'd rather be behind that counter before Brandon comes at me.”“He wouldn't be stupid enough to do that while you're standing here,” he said with authority.“Please I have other tables to attend to, I'd appreciate it if…”“Two hundred thousand dollars for a week, Marie. You simply have to act like my fiancee and not resist me.”“What are you talking about?”“I mean it. You'll be out of this gutter of a place and—”I pulled my hand away from him in one swift movement and walked off, my face hot from embarrassment. Was it so clear that I was poor?Did he really assume he could just come in here and buy me off?I had a job. A life. A broken heart to nurse back to health

CHAPTER TWO Chapter TwoRyan Cole “There are very few things I can tolerate, Pete,” I said to my best friend as I leaned into the not-so-soft cushion of the bar we'd found ourselves in.“Just do what the old man wants,” Pete advised. This was like the third time he was advising me to just do what my father wanted. “I can't say you've been helpful with your counsel, Pete.”“I don't see another way out of this,” he maintained. “Is that why you brought me to a cheap bar with tough chairs?” I demanded. Pete genuinely looked amused.“The bar is not cheap and the chairs are not that hard unless you're trying to get too comfortable.”A fat man with tiny red eyes came to our table. He was well dressed.“Good afternoon, gentlemen. Welcome to Quinns Bar. I'm Brandon and I'm happy to serve you,” he said. His smile was too wide. His face was too fat and…Damn it. Everything was pissing me off. “We'll let you know when we want something,” Pete said. The man nodded and walked off. My prob

CHAPTER ONEMarie's POV It would have been a little better if I wasn't working at the same place with my boyfriend, Callum. Knowing that you got cheated on, and seeing that you got cheated on are two entirely different things. Maybe if I'd just heard it, I'd have forgiven Callum, but I caught him with Nancy, another colleague, at the worst possible time and place. My boyfriend for three years was sleeping with my only friend at work, during their short break time. I stood at the door of the storage room, my mouth wide open as I looked at them. “Damn it, Marie, why are you acting like such a creep? You look like you’re going to freak out.” Callum asked the moment they sprang apart. He was zipping his trousers and tucking his shirt as I watched. Nancy had only had to lift her skirts and bend over a table. She was arranging her clothes now, completely avoiding my eyes. “Freak out? I haven't even said anything,” I rasped. There was a thick lump in my throat and it made speaking

“You made it to my bedroom, little one,” Ryan Cole growled as we got into the undeniably huge master bedroom in the penthouse.Made it indeed.“First, I'd appreciate it if you stopped calling me ‘little one’ and just refer to me as Marie,” I said. “And second?” He asked, his eyebrow coming up. “And what's it with making it to your bedroom? The arrangement demands that I sleep here anyway.”He walked off from me, stopped at the vanity and started taking off his cufflinks. I stood there watching him, not exactly sure what I was supposed to be doing while I was still in the insanely expensive wedding dress. “Little one sounds like something really…medieval,” I muttered. He walked back to me. “Let's get you out of that dress, little one.”There. He said it again. But I was going to be a good actress who was paid well enough to do her job, and I'll just pretend he didn't coin that nauseous pet name for me. “Fine, help me out of it,” I offered. He came closer, looming over me, his
