All the needed sophisticated equipment soon arrived alongside other doctors and healers who were even more advanced than Clarissa.

Since Moonvale was just growing back in members and strength after it became the power seat of the kingdom, Clarissa's clinic was still the only functioning healing centre.

Athena had an intention of mega clinics too, but those were supposed to come after the school projects.

“Who knew we were going to need those sooner?” she thought bitterly as she watched them manoeuvre Zaya in the gurney to the guest room she had had converted into a temporary clinic for her.

She agreed with the doctors when they said the bedroom wouldn't be the best place for her treatment, but she refused to let them take her away from the alpha house.

So, the guest room was equipped and Kincaid, who had finally thrown on some clothes, was pushing the gurney all by himself, his gaze eerily fixed on Zaya's still heart.

The doctors hooked her up to the ECG and its accompanying machine.

The echoes reached Raymond long before he reached the clinic.Carmen met him on the steps just as others greeted him reverently. For one who always looked calm in most situations, Carmen looked frazzled at the moment. Her coat was stained with blood and the hair she had packed into a bun was currently trying to escape its hold. She did not seem to notice though as she looked at Raymond with anxiety in her brown eyes.“Alpha, we had to restrain him,” she said breathlessly.Raymond nodded briefly and entered while others followed him.He did not need to ask where the man was, as his guttural yell was enough for all to know where he was. When Raymond opened the door, the man tried to lunge off the bed as it triggered. The bed groaned as the iron chain held him in place.“We had to clear out this room so as not to stimulate the other patients, alpha.”Raymond barely paid attention to the statement behind him as he could see the reason already.Scuffed marks in the tiles. The bed slightly

“What do you mean you did not see anyone?!” Raymond snarled.“I am sorry, Alpha. We just… it was so fast that… I am sorry, Alpha,” Roy, head of the pack guards, finished guiltily in the face of Raymond's glower. Then he lowered his head contritely.“How are they doing now?” Raymond asked Carmen through the mindlink.“We are currently getting the wolfsbane out of their system, Alpha. Once it's totally out of their bodies, their chances will be better,” Carmen's voice came thready through the mindlink.Which meant they were still critical.Carmen had her soothing doctor's voice on for sure, and the implication of that made guilt ripple through Raymond in punishing waves. He couldn't blame Roy too much, because he had barely felt it too.His eyes clouded with anger as he looked over the construction site.Building materials were strewn on the ground. A cement pan half turned. A ladder split into two from the impact of something striking it.The whole site was in chaos, and spots of blood

Athena was having a report meeting with Lorraine and the soldiers the next day when the pain started. It started building low in her spine before wrapping around her lower abdomen in a sharp tug.She sucked in a sharp breath and held on to the edge of the table, holding back the tears that wanted to spring to her eyes.“My queen?” Lorraine called in question through their mindlink.Athena realised she had closed her eyes as she tried to hold on to the pain. She looked up to see the soldiers looking at her with concern, confusion on their faces as they took in her suddenly pale face.“Let's continue this later,” she managed to grit out, hating how thin her voice sounded.“Let's go,” Lorraine immediately ushered everyone out as they bowed and left. She shut the door behind them and turned in concern towards Athena.“Get Larissa,” Athena breathed before she lowered herself gingerly into her chair.Something was wrong. The pain was steadily spreading through her system now that she could

Athena couldn't sleep.Hearing from Raymond had managed to loosen that knot in her chest, the one that had been there since he left and had only intensified when he didn't pick her call. She had managed to tell herself that been st odds with him did not disturb her.But it wasn't until she heard his voice last night that she realised she had been lying to herself anyway. She hated fighting with her mate. She even hated been apart from him the more.“You are right,” she said to Morrigan as she got off the bed where she had been tossing and turning all night. “It sucks,” Morrigan remained silent, but Athena could practically feel her smirk. She rolled her eyes with a smile as she went to her dresser to put on a coat over her pajamas.Dawn was hardly brushing the lightening sky when she stepped out of the alpha house.Fog hung low over the grounds and shrubberies as it reluctant to let go of the night. As her slippered feet took her down the driveway towards the woods, Athena could feel

Something like a gunshot echoed through Raymond's chest, burning through the chaos. He jerked out of his troubled dream into pitch darkness. His chest was heaving like he had just finished a marathon. His skin was drenched with sweat, making his shirt stick to his body. The chaos followed him out of the dream as he looked at the mess around his office. He soon realised what had caused the sound. In the torments of his nightmare, he had crashed around on his table, scattering everything on the surface, including the half-drunk bottle and the glass he was using for the cognac before sleep claimed him.He automatically bent to pick the drink still spilling into the rug from the bottle as his eyes caught on the jagged marks that had been gouged deep into the leather covering of his desk.Claw marks. He had shifted in his dream!Partially, of course. Just the claws, but that had been enough to nearly ruin his desk as he tried to claw his way to his mate.“Athena!” His heart trembled as the

For a moment, Raymond wondered if this was Athena messing with him.“Nah, this is not her style,” he responded to himself. He could see the construction workers glancing his way, probably wondering why he was not approaching them yet.He immediately dialled the number that sent the text.“The number you dialled is not in service,” the mechanical voice sing-songed in his ear immediately.“What the…?”How can an unregistered number be chatting him?Would Athena really…He decided to text back.“Who are you? And what is this about?”No response. He was wondering if the number was disconnected right after the first message was sent. But who would be sending him such a message? He wondered in confusion. Then he typed, “Athena? Is that you? Baby, can you just pick your call? What's going on?”He tossed the phone down on the space beside his seat as he briefly wondered how fast he could get to Moonvale. She did tell him to leave and he intended to stay away until she admitted that she wanted
