Lane looked like Raymond had just asked when the sun would rise from the north. Then he blurted out, “Well, I… I thought you knew… I mean, that is why you have been attacking…”

Raymond looked at Dominic. “Answer the simple question this imbecile finds it hard to answer.”

“We learnt that some are calling the queen an imposter, alpha. They believe she was not the one who wiped out the vampires in battle back then. They think she cast out the person who did it and took the glory for herself.”

“What nonsense? How can anyone…?”

His eyes narrowed on Lane as he said, “What do you know about this?”

“Same as everyone, alpha,” Lane said emphatically. “That is what I have been trying to say, but you wouldn't allow me.”

“How can this be?” Raymond barely acknowledged Lane's response as his mind whirred with thoughts. How could all these rumours be coming out right now? What was the reason for them? And more importantly, who was the one behind them?

Lane clomped self-importantly at the lead, while the red-clad woman walked...no,...glided between the two patrol guards at her sides. She was tall for a woman, and there was something about the way she carried herself. The black blindfold over her head clashed starkly against the blood-red, ankle-length gown she had on.Her sandalled feet peeked beneath the folds of her gown as she moved like she belonged there.“Yes, that's it,” Raymond thought, his eyes narrowing as the right words came to him.Like she belonged.Despite being sandwiched between two men who looked like they were looking for the smallest excuse to snap her head off, there was confidence in her movement.Like this was a land she had walked many times before.Like the blindfold on her head and the men at her sides were no threat at all.Raymond could almost believe she would find her way easily enough around the pack with the blindfold still on.He shrugged off the uneasy thought as he focused on Lane. The delta steppe

Delta Lane jerked out of his chair, and he was almost turning away before he seemed to remember he wasn't alone.“Alpha, I need to go now, please,” he said urgently.“Why?” Raymond asked mildly, tension thrumming beneath his skin.“Trouble at the border, alpha. The patrol guard just told me. I need to go handle it.”Raymond couldn't mindlink any of Moonvale's pack members since he was not their direct alpha. They were linked to Athena and could easily mindlink each other too since they belonged to a pack.In that sense, Raymond was like the outsider among them.He hated that Lane had that advantage over him, that he couldn't tell for sure if the message had really been about trouble at the border.Or another of his tricks.“What kind of trouble?” he enquired.“An intruder, Alpha.” His voice dropped to a theatrical whisper as he added, as if speaking only to Raymond, “A witch.”“A witch?!” Most of the pack members echoed as they jerked to their feet.Raymond could see fear, hatred and

All eyes had followed Raymond’s gaze this time as they fixed on Lane. The way the delta jerked out of his chair like he was about to have an apoplectic fit was satisfactory enough for Raymond at the moment, as his eyes widened while he jerked his finger at himself, then at everyone around the table, wisely avoiding Raymond.“Why are you all looking at me like that?! You really want to believe I did this because of his fancy way of talking?! You will believe the alpha of another pack over your own delta?! You ungrateful lot! I have been killing myself since the queen aband… since the queen left! I have been doing my best for the people just to make sure no one takes advantage of us, and you dare accuse me?! I will stand for this!”He smacked the table in anger.“No one is accusing you, Delta. We are just talking. Why are you getting so agitated if this has nothing to do with you?” One middle-aged woman spoke up.Lane turned on her, shaking his finger at her. “You wench! How dare you i

  • Royalty In Rag: Return Of The Wolfless Queen   Which Rumour?

Seeing Lane sit comfortably in the seat of the woman he had spread vicious rumours about set off the slippery hold on Raymond's fury.“Alpha consort, you are back. I didn't expect that you would be joining us so soon,” Lane said cheerily, with his customary widespread hand gesture.Raymond walked steadily towards him, ignoring those around. He could see the flicker of unease on Lane's face even as the bastard's smile grew broader.“You are welcome, alpha. You must have heard too, right? You are just in time for… argh!”Lane flew off the chair, landing hard on the ground when Raymond’s fist connected with his jaw. Raymond reached for the chair before it fell, and the touch alone reminded him of Athena in that seat, sitting regally and deservingly as she should, unlike the two-faced bastard who dared to claim her spot like he was not expecting her back any time soon.He heard the screeches of chair legs as the others jerked to their feet.Lane wiggled his jaw with a wince as he said, “A

  • Royalty In Rag: Return Of The Wolfless Queen   I Warned You

Two Days Later“I am sorry, Alpha Raymond. I will reach out to you if I have any good news.”“Thank you, Alpha Kane,” Raymond said blandly as he stepped off the porch of the grand alpha house. He had called all the council alphas that first day after he learnt of Athena and Zaya's disappearance. They had all sworn that they did not see her. Alpha Ryan even mentioned that the last time they spoke with the queen, it did not seem like she was going anywhere, because they were supposed to have another meeting soon. While tossing and turning through the night, a thought had come to him. “What if she is deliberately hiding in one of the packs and does not want me to find her? Could the man she left with be one of the alphas I called already who told me they don't know where she is?”Raymond found it hard to believe that Athena would hide away instead of facing him to ask him about the clip. He found it even more difficult to believe that she would deliberately keep Zaya from him.Still,
