LOGINMona's POV: "Please." She whimpered, grunting harder as she clutched the bleeding wound. "The witch hunter is going to kill him. We need to hurry." My blood ran cold. Him? What did she mean by him? "What are you.. what are you talking about?" My brows furrowed as I slowly knelt beside her. "Who's him?" "The Alpha." She breathed, her voice barely a whisper. "Alpha Sebastian." "Sebastian?" My brows furrowed even deeper. "Wait. Why would—" "Please, Mona." She grabbed my wrist, her grip surprisingly strong. "There's no time to waste." "But I don't.." I shook my head in confusion. "Wait…" I suddenly froze at the realization. "..How'd you know my name?" "You can't let him die, Mona." She ignored my question, her breath getting even more ragged as she pressed hard against her bleeding wound, a way to try and manage the bleeding. "You have to help me so I'll take you there." Take me there? Take me where? I stared at her. At the wound. At the blood pooling beneath her.
Mona's POV: The seamstress had finally finished taking my measurements. I didn't waste time stepping out of the room—my body was already aching from standing still for so long. The other bridesmaids were still inside, comparing fabric swatches and laughing about something I hadn't heard. I didn't care. I just needed air. So many things had happened in the past few days and I was still trying to wrap my head around it. Keisha's wedding date was getting closer and closer by the day. It was only a matter of time before all this was over and I actually had to face reality. And by reality, I meant Marcello. I'd switched off my device for days now, but I knew I couldn't stay in delusion forever. Even though Sebastian and I were mates, was there really a future for us? I was still Luna of Blackwood—a secret I hadn't told him yet—and the moment Keisha's wedding was over, I was going to have to face my fears and find a solution for this whole Marcello situation. I was stand
Kade's POV: "What cufflinks?" "Are you seriously asking me that right now?" Keisha blinked at me, her teasing smile still fixed on her face. "Swear to the goddess you have no idea what I'm talking about." "Swear to the goddess?" I scoffed. "I'm not about to swear to the goddess over some imaginary cufflinks." "You know you don't have to lie to me, Kade." Her teasing smile began faltering. "Keisha, please." I was already running out of patience. "I have no idea what you're talking about and I don't care right now. I have to—" "Wait, you're being for real?" Her smile seemed to suddenly disappear. "Do I look like I'm in the mood for games, Keish?" "I'm confused." Her brows furrowed as she let out a confused laugh, tightening her grip on the fabric slipping from her arms. "But she said you left the cufflinks there last night?" "Last night?" "C'mon. They were gold, Kade." She rolled her eyes like I was frustrating her into reminding me. "..With a
Kade's POV: Suicide? It made no sense. The head guard had been lucky that the sorcerers spared his life by miraculously healing him, and he proceeded to take his own life? Why would he do that? He'd been recovering. He'd been getting better. A man who'd fought that hard and been given a second chance to live wouldn't just give up. Would he? I and Ulric followed my father out the dining hall, the guards leading us to the head guard's chambers. In no time, we reached his quarters, the guards parting for us as we approached. The door was already open, a small crowd gathered outside murmuring and making commentaries. "I can't believe he'd take his own life." I heard one of them say within the crowd. "I know right." Another replied. "His wife was elated to hear he'd recovered last night and now, he takes his own life the following morning?" "Move," my father commanded, and they scattered. We made our way inside his quarters, following behind him, the sound of our shoe
Kade's POV: Since the moment I woke up, I'd been trying to process what had happened last night at the infirmary. How a guard that had been fatally wounded and only a few hours from the doors of death could suddenly look like he was merely bruised and just slightly under the weather? The way the wound had closed up so neatly? I could have sworn there'd been no way he'd been stabbed if I wasn't among the first ones to see him when he had been initially brought to the infirmary. It was almost.. almost a miracle. I'd never seen or heard anything like that in my lifetime. So I knew for a fact that magic had to be involved. But there was something I didn't understand—if the healer was one of the suspected sorcerers, why would they stab him in the first place, only to later heal him? It made no sense. Or were they perhaps trying to pass a message? I was still trying to figure it out as I stood in the middle of the dining room, a plate in my hand as I was about to serve my fo
THE NEXT DAY Mona's POV: I woke to the sound of birds chirping outside the window and the warmth of a body pressed against my back. Sebastian's arm was still wrapped around my waist, his breath warm against my neck. For a moment, I just lay there, letting myself feel the weight of him. The safety of him. I still couldn’t believe last night had actually happened. That the Sebastian who had told me to stay away from him when I had just gotten to Nightfang was now the same one cuddling me from behind, only a few weeks later. I had thought I'd wake up to him gone again like the last time, but this time he was holding me tightly, his large arms around me. I shifted, turning slowly in his arms to face him. It seemed like he was still very much asleep. "Sebastian.." I whispered, softly grazing my fingers on his lips. "..It's morning now." His eyes slowly fluttered open, dark and soft, a small smile spreading across his lips. "Good morning, little w
