Anna wished she was somewhere else right now.

She glanced at the figure beside her and her nose scrunched up.

Her phone rang just then, her younger sister's smiling face filling the screen.

“Is everything okay, Lena?” She asked the moment the call connected.

“Yes! When are you getting here?”

Anna side-eyed the figure behind the wheel. “We happen to be crawling like a snail right now, but I'm sure I'll be there soon, okay? Go have fun, and big sis will roll in soon with the cannon.”

The call ended and Anna leaned back into the passenger seat with a sigh.

Jason's deep voice cut in, low and smug, “Still like telling people what to do, huh?”

Anna turned away toward the window, deciding she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of an answer this time. She wasn't sure what spoiled the night more: sitting in a car en route to the venue of her sister's wedding after-party with the most annoying jerk she knew, or the fact that he was clearly enjoying her torture.

Jason Knight.

The groom's annoying brother and best man, which meant as her sister's Chief bridesmaid, Anna had been stuck with him these past few days!

She didn't know a fate more horrible, nor a person more maddeningly unpredictable.

The first time they'd met, she was sure he hated her guts. His big grin for his baby brother had dropped the instant he saw her. He'd spent the rest of that day offering nothing but cold shoulders and dissecting stares, as if she were some kind of lab rat.

Then the next day at rehearsal?

A full 180.

He'd kissed her hand like a gentleman, called her his favourite bridesmaid, and showed up with chocolate bars like a lovesick fool.

And then today at the wedding, he'd ignored her almost completely, entertaining every other bridesmaid and lady who so much as blinked his way. Charming, handsome, magnetic, and she hated that she'd noticed.

She'd decided that Jason Knight was the kind of man she wanted nothing to do with.

But here she was, in his car.

“Quieten your brain, spitfire.” Amusement rang in Jason's voice. “I can see the smoke through your nostrils and ears.”

“Pretty sure yours is frozen from the alcohol and cringy flirts,” Anna shot back, glaring at him from across the console.

Jason’s eyes left the road momentarily, a smirk on his lips. “Were you watching me, Princess?”

“What— why would I watch you? And stop calling me those silly names you give your girls.”

He chuckled. “You didn't have an issue with it the other day, Sweetheart.”

Anna tried to ignore the heat creeping up her neck slowly. “Ever heard the phrase, for peace to reign?”

Jason frowned, rubbed his jaw in thought. “Enlighten me, if you would, Your highness.”

“I tolerated your presence and bawl-worthy attempts at flirting because it's my sister's wedding. Curb it.”

Jason pulled into the hotel for the after party just then and turned to her. He pressed a button to lock the doors, preventing her from exiting.

“You've still got that same bossy tone, Princess.” He leaned forward. “Makes me wonder what you sound like when you break down.”

Anna frowned. “What does that mean?”

Jason grinned. “It means I want to get to know—” his eyes trailed over Anna slowly, “—every part of you.”

Suddenly, Anna felt naked. She resisted the urge to pull the silk fabric of her dark red gown over her exposed cleavage. Heat bloomed on her cheeks, thankfully hidden by the blush she had on. She reached for the door immediately and frowned when it didn't budge.

She turned back to him and her breath caught at the look in his eyes. Her tongue darted out quickly to moisten her lips. “Unlock the door, Jason.”

His smirk was pure sin. “Not until you say you’ll dance with me.”

“I’d rather—”

“—kiss me?” His gaze dropped to her mouth, slow and deliberate, like he already knew her answer. “Careful, Princess. You keep looking at me like that and I’ll think you want me.”

Her pulse spiked. He was too close, too smug, and way too tempting. “You’re drunk.”

“Drunk on you, maybe.”

She hated him almost as much as she wanted to find out how good that mouth really was. She swallowed around the sudden lump in her throat, unable to tear her gaze away from his lips. Those heart shaped lips. She wanted to know if they were as soft as they looked.

Jason leaned over the console, a smug smile stretching his lips. He grabbed her chin with his thumb and index finger, tilted her head up. Their gaze met and locked, and he ran his thumb over her lower lip slowly, his gaze lowering to watch them part.

Goosebumps broke out on Anna's skin from his touch, and her eyes fluttered close as his fingers caressed her cheeks. Jason's lips lowered slowly to hers but with their lips just inches apart, he stopped.

He brought his lips to her ears instead and whispered in a low, hoarse voice, “Does this mean you'll dance with me then?”

Anna's eyes flew open, her face turning the color of an overripe tomato the moment she realized just what she'd done. Or rather, what she'd been willing to let him do.

She pushed against his chest and Jason pulled back, a smirk on his lips. Anna wanted to slap it off his face.

God. She wanted to strangle him.

She cleared her throat. “Open—open the door, Mr. Knight.”

Jason tilted his head to the side, eyes boring into her. “The dance?”

“Fine. I'll dance with you! Jus—just open the da… door!”

Jason pressed a button and the doors unlocked with a click. He opened his mouth to speak, but Anna was out of the car before he could get the first word out, like hellhounds were hot on her heels.

“Maybe they are,” he muttered under his breath, eyes darkening as they followed her with a glare and a hunger he couldn't suppress. “This wasn't part of the fucking plan.” .

Her sheer red gown had tormented him all afternoon at the wedding, and now every step she took only fanned the fire in him.

This wasn’t part of the plan. The plan to ruin her like she did him in high school, but his body betrayed him anyway. His jaw tightened.

Who said he couldn’t get both?

A wicked thrill curled through

him. He was going to leave a mark on her that she would never forget, and he would have fun while at it.

  • Ruined By My Brother-In-Law    Girls, Breakfast, and Emotional

Anna woke to the smell of butter and something burning slightly. For a second, disorientation held her still against the couch cushions. Then her lower back protested as she pushed herself upright and everything from yesterday came rushing back at once. The exchange with Maya, passing out, Elena finding out about the baby, and drifting off to sleep on her shoulder right there on the couch. God.Anna dragged a hand over her face with a groan.“You’re alive.” Leah’s voice floated in from the kitchen.Anna blinked toward it to find Leah standing by the stove in one of Anna's oversized shirts while Elena sat at the island scrolling through something on her phone. Both women looked up immediately, and Anna instantly regretted waking up.“You should still be sleeping,” Elena said carefully, like she wasn’t sure where they stood yet.“I’m fine.”Leah snorted loudly. “Drink every time Anna says she’s fine and suddenly everyone dies of alcohol poisoning.”Anna glared weakly, her gaze flicking

  • Ruined By My Brother-In-Law    Completely Alone

Anna had barely slept last night. She barely remembered Leah helping her to the couch, or Helen knocking softly at some point during the night. Olivia had come too, hovering awkwardly behind her mother with worry written all over her face while Anna sat there emotionally flayed open, and exhausted.“Do you need anything, sweetheart?” Helen had asked gently.Anna had wanted to say yes; instead, she'd shaken her head. Olivia looked like she wanted to hug her, and Anna pretended not to notice. Elena never came back. That hurt more than Anna wanted to admit, especially after the raw words they’d exchanged. Everything had gone quiet sometime after three in the morning, but sleep still eluded her. Every time Anna closed her eyes, she saw Elena again. Heard her own voice cracking in the hallway. Felt the humiliation of falling apart in front of everyone. The sun had barely risen by the time she drifted off into sleep. By the time Anna dragged herself off the couch and toward the shower in

  • Ruined By My Brother-In-Law    Lost Ground

Zürich didn’t breathe down your neck. It didn’t demand anything from you. It didn’t hold onto things longer than it should. It moved forward… just like him.Or at least, just like Jason had trained himself to be.The floor-to-ceiling windows in his hotel suite overlooked the Limmat, its water cutting clean through the city. Evening had settled in, lights flickering on one by one along the banks, their reflections stretching across the darkening water. He stood there for a moment longer than necessary, a glass of Macallan in hand, untouched. He was supposed to have met the board yesterday morning—secure the first position before competitors closed in—but he hadn't been able to get his head in the right space. His insomnia had worsened over the past few days, and when he did sleep, he was tormented by different versions of that night everything changed—each one worse than the last. It left him irritatingly shaken and hollow when he snapped awake. It didn’t help either that during his w

  • Ruined By My Brother-In-Law    I Win

Elena didn’t answer right away. She just stood there, arms folded, eyes scanning Anna like she was trying to force something into place that wouldn't fit.Anna bristled against her gaze. “Why are you looking at me like that?” “You tell me,” she said finally. “You’ve been avoiding me for days. Leah says you're not okay, and you look like the world turned on you.”Anna exhaled. “I said I wasn't ready to talk, Elena.”“I'm your sister. You don’t get to shut me out.” “I don't feel like talking to you!” Anna snapped, scooting to the edge of the couch. She pressed her palms to her eyes. “Do you know what I've been dealing with all day? I'm exhausted.” Elena didn't back down. She paced a step, then another, tension coiling in her movements, her eyes sharp with everything she wasn’t saying and everything she was about to.“Is this about Mum?” “Let it be, Elena.” “Why do you suddenly have a problem with me talking to her, Anna?”Anna sank back into the couch, pressing her fingers to her t

  • Ruined By My Brother-In-Law    Out Of Place

It had been four days since that day. Since everything ended between Anna and Jason, since she had confirmed she was carrying his child. She’d stayed away from work despite her suspension being lifted, trying—and failing—to be her old self. She had told Elena she wasn’t ready to talk. She told Leah she was okay on her own, and meant it—or at least, she meant that she couldn’t handle more questions. She had kept her distance from Helen and Olivia, showing up briefly before retreating back into her apartment. She hadn’t decided if she would let Dr. Alvarez be her obstetrician, and the thought of deleting Jason’s number was still a battle she avoided. She had read through their old chats, stopping herself from sending a message a hundred times. Carrying his child felt foreign, a constant, unrelenting reminder. And she hated the effects—the nausea, the tenderness, the dizzy spells no one at the hospital could see.Now she was back at work, and she was certain that had only made things wo

  • Ruined By My Brother-In-Law    He Took Everything

Anna woke slowly. She felt the weight of her limbs first, then the quiet around her. It pressed in—no footsteps, no voices overlapping. Just the faint hum of something mechanical and the soft rustle of fabric when she shifted. Her brows pulled together slightly. Her lashes fluttered open, her vision blurry before it steadied. White ceiling, fluorescent lights dimmed low—a hospital room.Right, of course.A dull ache settled behind her eyes as she tried to move. Her body felt heavy, like it had been wrung out and left to dry.“You’re awake.”Anna turned her head slightly to the side. Leah's chair scraped softly as she leaned forward, brows drawn tight, lips pressed thin, eyes scanning her like she was trying to make sure everything was still there. Relief flashed across her face but it didn’t soften her expression completely. It sat there, tight around the edges.“What… time is it?” she tried to ask, but her voice came out rough, barely there.“Slowly,” Leah instructed as she helped he

  • Ruined By My Brother-In-Law    Him or Safety

Anna had never told anyone the full, ugly version of what happened in high school. Only a few people knew the watered-down version—her therapist back in college and Leah. Elena knew only… bits. As always, she'd chosen to protect her little sister from the mess—her mess. She couldn't say the same f

By the time Anna got to her apartment, she'd ignored calls from Dr. Pierce, the four musketeers—Sierra, Brooke, Madison and Jack—respectively, and several from Elena. The silence that stretched after Jason and Elodie disappeared through the double door was loud and judging. Jason stiffened as his gaze locked onto Anna standing in the middle of his office. Her scent already hung in the air—the sterile bite of antiseptic softened by jasmine and a faint trace of lavender he knew too well. Dark glossy tendrils framed her delicate face, and the hand that rose to tuck them
