~Maddy's POV

Work had become my sanctuary.

After everything I had faced, I threw myself into my new role like a possessed woman. Maybe I was. Maybe survival and revenge lived side by side in me now.

And it paid off.

Within months, I had helped the company close deals that had been sitting stagnant for years. I had caught the attention of global investors. For the first time in a long time, I was seen for my mind and not for who I was married to or pretending to be married to.

I smiled more. I slept better. I carried life inside me and, oddly, I felt more powerful than ever.

So when we signed one of the biggest international deals of the year, it didn’t surprise me that the office threw a celebration in my honour.

This was literally my first social even since moving here and unfortunately my baby didn't plan on being a part of the celebrations.

While giving an impromptu speech, the first wave of pain hit me in my lower abdomen.

It was sharp, and kepr radiating across my back.

The King's boardroom was a lot colder than it usually was.Ethan stood before the long mahogany. Even though he looked confident, it was very obvious he was tense as hell. The board members looked very uninterested and seeing me tucked away in the back made things worse.“I know I failed,” Ethan began, his voice steady though his hands clenched at his sides. “I lost sight of the company. I let personal mistakes interfere with business. But this company is more than a crown jewel. It’s my family’s legacy. And I’m asking—no, begging—for the chance to make it right.”A wave of whispers spread down the table. One of the investors, an older man in his late seventies, spoke first. “You expect us to forget the chaos you caused? The scandal? The investors who pulled out because of your reckless behavior?”I swallowed hard, feeling nervous on Ethan’s behalf.“I don’t expect you to forget,” Ethan said. His eyes flicked to the floor for a moment, then lifted again. “I expect you to hold me accou

Ethan’s house was extremely quiet and peaceful. For the first time in days, I felt like I could breathe again. Ethan had doubled the guards and all our court and medical activities were carried out at home.Ethan never left my side and seeing how he was so passionate about baby Maxwell made me feel bad that he would forever be denied the ability to be his father. The house was peaceful as always until screaming started at the gates.A shrill, hysterical voice, demanding to be let in.I immediately recognised it as Samantha’s.She stumbled into the living room minutes later, her hair wild, lipstick smeared, she looked like a crackhead. Her eyes darted around until they landed on me and the found the baby in my arms. Her face twisted. “You!”Before I could react, her slim fingers made contact with my cheek, the loud slap echoing through the room.I staggered back, clutching my child to my chest. But before she could strike again, Ethan stepped in. He yanked her wrist mid-air, shoving he

I sat still on the balcony, my hands trembling as my mind spiralled with thoughts of my baby.My poor baby had been dragged into a mess he knew nothing about.Eleanor was such a monster. What kind of human being would deny a baby of his mother in his first few days? My mind was plagued with the possible worst case scenarios but I forced myself to remain sane.Harry had promised to help. He said he had friends that could track down Eleanor and find my baby. I clung to that hope like my life depended on it, maybe because it did. After hours of waiting, Harry finally informed me we were going to meet his friends. I almost leaped for joy and I rushed to the car before he could even finish instructing his staff. We drove out of the mansion and headed towards the old docks. I felt a sudden unease but I pushed the though back. Harry was my friend and he would never hurt me.We drove in absolute silence until we arrived in front of an old warehouse. My stomach dropped. “Harry?” I called to h

~EthanThe plain white hospital walls and the strong smell of antiseptics stopped disturbing me after spending several days in the hospital.Even the constant beeping of machines has stopped annoying me and the only thing that bothered me was my son’s cries. When they came, they were weak and wheezy. When they didn’t come, the silence felt like a scary death sentence.Samantha hadn’t held him in hours. She just lay on the bed, passed out again, her wrist IV line tangled and her mascara still smeared from last night’s meltdown.I sat by the incubator, gently brushing the baby’s arm with my finger through the hole in the glass. He was so tiny and fragile. Like a porcelain doll someone dropped before wrapping. But I didn't care, he was my son and even if it turned out he wasn't, he was innocent and I would never use his mother's sins against him.I would spend every penny to make sure he survived the catastrophe his mother had caused him.Her cocaine abuse hadn’t been a secret.I had not

I stared at the email for a long time, wondering what evil I had done to Eleanor to deserve this level of sabotage. The second company followed suit shortly after, then the third till the fifteenth.Every door that had been open just a day ago was now slamming shut.I was being blackballed. And worse, my apartment was no longer safe. I would come home to find my things slightly moved, a coffee mug placed on the wrong shelf, windows unlocked that I knew I had closed. One evening, I found my underwear drawer raided, and a single red rose lying atop my clothes.I couldn't breathe.I couldn't sleep.I was pregnant, alone and under siege. And so, after one last sleepless night of pacing and triple-locking every door, I packed a suitcase and left New York.I booked a one-way ticket under a fake name and disappeared before Eleanor could play her next card.I didn’t know where I was going. Only that I needed to get far enough away that no one could reach me.Not Eleanor or Samantha or even Et
